February 6, 201412 yr Commercial Member This will be a very good release. My hope is that it opens the door for many people on the fence to be a user of P3Dv2.x More users = More third party development = More DX11 Innovation REX AccuSeason Developer REX Simulations
February 6, 201412 yr Wow very impressed with LM! This is the revival of FSX, really hope 64bit will be next after they tackle all these fixes. I'm so ready to get rid of FSX forever. Bring on 2.1! February 6, 201412 yr what kind of puter does it take to run it? Not all that much more than what it takes to run FSX, with the exception of having a solid DX11 GPU for all the new shiny stuff. Beyond that, well, we're kind of all waiting on the patch itself to get a bottom line idea of what is absolutely needed. There is a chance that some of the perf improvements might actually ease the requirements a bit, on the CPU side at least. Regards,Brian Doney

February 6, 201412 yr I guess we should wait until we see the patch before we lavish too much praise on LM, but this is mightily impressive, and their engagement with the community is superb. In fact, it's an admirable trait you see these days from a lot of "game" developers, so it's nice to see the old FSX sim being brought into the current day not just in terms of technology, but in how the developers engage with their customers Bravo! Regarding the speed of the turnaround on fixes, maybe LM's Skunk Works team took some time off from the Aurora spy plane to lend the team some computing hardware
February 6, 201412 yr I am keenly interested in seeing a new topic after this patch is out that profiles with full honesty one new P3D adopter and how much effort it takes for that new adopter to get P3D up and running acceptably on his/her system, and if all the bugs have been remedied. That is one aspect that is holding me back. This is not at all any dig at P3D, it is as stated a keen interest. I am one of the lucky ones, because I've never had any real problems running P3D2 (either due to my particular hardware, and/or because I didn't try to add a bunch of 3rd party addons). Other than spending some time figuring out the optimal in-sim settings (my settings are HERE), the only edit that I made was adding the following lines to the Prepar3D.cfg: [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=252 ; for quad core w/ hyperthreading I've had no problems configuring my Saitek X52 Flight Control System to work with P3D2 (and I'm running Win 8.1). Overall, I have found that it was MUCH easier to set P3D2 up for my needs, than FSX or even X-Plane 10 was. I have honestly spent most of my time flying, instead of fiddling with everything. Don't get me wrong, there are some real issues with version 2.0, so I don't blame you for waiting. I've simply learned not to do things that I know will cause a CTD (like trying to change an existing flight plan), so I'm also looking forward to the v.2.1 patch ... but I'm still flying P3D2 nearly every day. The main thing for me is that I know some 3rd party developers have put P3D2 development on hold until this patch is released, and I'm really looking forward to the release of the P3D version of Active Sky Next. Edited: Oh, I forgot to mention that I have added a few 3rd party addons. I added FTXG and A2A's Piper Cub within a week or so of purchasing P3D2, and I just purchased A2A's Cessna last weekend. I had no problems getting any of these to work on P3D (but A2A's planes do require a few extra steps). ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
February 6, 201412 yr I've never seen so much drama over a patch lol The expectations are sky high ! The add-on sellers are on the edge of their seat ! The end-users are drooling in anticipation ! You have to wonder if the product is built in such a way that it is impossible to trickle maintenance patches in small increments instead of one big update ? If they actually resolved that huge pile of issues in such a short period, I foresee a massive migration from FSX to P3D.
