I didn't even contribute to that thread at all but was rather entertained by it.....so I don't get why the locks???

It felt nice getting away from the spotlight of Putin style censorship for a while, but then they caught up with us and goat got the chop.

Which 'people' and which 'posts' exactly?   Goodness me, the goat-simulator thread allowed us some fun and provided an opportunity for a little sattire to defuse recent stress and tensions.

 

Are we really to be so heavily monitored and censored in every corner of Avsim forums and have posts removed, threads locked and members "warned" -over lighthearted comments on a goat-simulator thread?!

 

Jeez! The anti-censorship websites would have a field day with this one.  Censorship on Russia's 'RT' website is moderate by comparison to Avsim it seems; and even the moderate Hangar Chat forum is tightly screwed down.  So much for the fight for 'free-speech' in the 'free' West.

 

Could we have an explanation please from whoever locked the goat thread? Could they copy and paste what it was that made them lock it down so we know where we stand. Thanks.

It was one of those rare occasions when we would not quarrel about Captain Sim, Microsoft's CEOs or P3Dv2 addon pricing.

You may not agree with the premise, but you did agree to abide by the rules of the forum as they are spelled out in the TOS, when you registered.  And no, I didn't lock the thread and I don't know who did.  Personally, I didn't have a problem with it, but someone on the staff obviously took issue with it.  And while one may be offered eventually, an explanation is neither warranted nor required.

My guess is that the references to PMDG, Milviz, Orbix?, the Mafia (whoever that is),  got the thread locked.

 

Even though I believe that for the most part what was said was in jest, using vendor names and bringing a foreign leader into the thread could be viewed as offensive by the parties involved.  Perhaps they or someone close to them reported the thread and action was taken.

 

On the other hand though I could be way off target.  The only person that knows the true reason is the person that locked the thread.

A goat herder must have contacted Avsim and explianed how insulted he was lol. I know they watch posts closely to keep avsim somewhat civil and thats a very good thing! But its kinda over the top at times. I nearly got banned for saying that a certin software will eventally get hacked to work in another sim. I didn't say I was going hack it or, use the hack(quite the opposite actually) just stated the fact that a hack will happen someday and they almost banned me. Kinda over the top since me saying that doesn't promote hacking all I did was state a fact and by banning me doesn't mean it won't happen. The best anogly I can come up with is this. Your getting chased by a wolf and you come to a cliff you cover your eyes as the wolf approaches and pretend the wolf isn't there, covering your eyes doesn't make the wolf go away infact it just makes you easier prey.

Yes yes, I know the score. I've been flight-simming for 15 years around various forums. 

 

But the Avsim TOS that you speak about relate to 'violations' of those terms. My point is that I don't see any TOS which have been broken on the 'goat-simulator' thread, and neither can you, or indeed other members who commented on this particular thread (above), except one contributor on this thread who said that a couple of posts should be 'removed' and members 'warned'.

 

The Goat-Sim thread was simply a lighthearted affair that generated fun, humour and a bit of sattire for many members. So that's why I requested if we could have an explanation from whoever did lock the goat-sim thread so we know where we stand in future.  Or better still, uncensor the thread as a token of goodwill.

You say Avsim isn't a democracy, fair enough. But it seems to me and others that someone on the team, not you,  took things a little too far in the censorship direction... or perhaps the forum has been hacked, and the thread maliciously locked by that means?

Maybe the previous Thread was locked because the humor had run its course, and after a while it just became... silly.

As daft as it was I was more than surprised at seeing the thread locked. My first reaction was that is was a malicious person who had/used to have admin rights here. Threads are invariably closed along with a reason for closure. If it was closed by a current moderator he/she/it must be feeling a bit embarrassed at the moment. 

 

Every day, in every way, the world is getting dafter and dafter!

One can only take goat humor so far...

 

But it isnt just about humour. Many Avsim members, including myself, felt that 'Goat-Simulator-2014' opened up a whole new world of simulation. Yes the goat models are a bit basic at the moment, but given time and further development, it could well look and act like the real thing and you'll believe a goat can fly..
