An Interesting Future for Outerra

if some serious client takes over, we are going to see an increase in simulation capabilities.

  • Well, Outerra has had only one variety of flora (pines) for quite some time, but have little birdies seen the future?

  • I think of it this way: there are two approaches to making a sim, particularly a flight sim. One is you make the planes and the things that go with the planes, and paste a somewhat satisfactory sketch

I`m sorry, I don`t want to sound rude, but do you actually have something against a simulator developed in Outerra, or any other engine in fact?

You seem to deny any progress and dispute the possibility of something good being made from an indie developer.

You may freely express your thoughts, but highlighting the slightest point that might have a negative outcome  -that nobody knows yet- is not exactly helping either the fans, that would like to see something made with Outerra, nor the developers as well.

So if you please, have some faith in the people working their backs off to produce something descent, that would be wonderfull.

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling

I have followed Outerra since its early days. Ive downloaded variations and still see no evidence of it  becoming a true flight simulator in the foreseeable future - can you?

I've also installed various versions of FlightGear (and then uninstalled them)  because that doesn't  not compare with we've got.

Whistling in the wind won't change that.

Keep in mind, the Outerra team is not building a Flight Sim. I hope we have established that.

They are making an engine. When that is done, they or someone else might (and I`m underlining that so that you won`t point it out to me <_< ) step in and make a game or a simulator or even an application that has nothing to do with the general public and gaming.

Until then, we made this thread. Not to be pessimistic, but the oposite.

In other words, read my signature.

That is the whole point. It isn't a flight simulator which what we want - not a renderinfg engine. and remember there Outerra isn't unique - that are other rendering engines.

If you qre quoting let me add to  Browning's words:

Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp... unless his reach too long and he falls flat on his face!

^Agreed^

While we are at it, we can read the first quote of my signature, too.

Which is to say, choose the quotes that suit you; Half empty, or half full.

It's Avsim Jim, but not as we know it.

Agreed!

Devon, thanks for the videos and the enthusiasm. I have known about Outerra for awhile, but never looked at any of the videos, very impressive. I spend as much time on the ground in FSX/FS9 as i do in the air, so I consider all flightsims to be world sims and the detail at ground lever in Outerra is amazing! I am a bush flyer, and with what i have seen so far, update the flight dynamics and give me real weather and it's instant flight sim for me, LOL..

I have lots of objects and vehicles on my HD that I have imported/thought about importing into FSX, might have to look into the COLLADA importer now and see what can be done with this engine.

Please keep up with the updates and the enthusiasm despite the glass half empty fools.

Best, Michael

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys!!!

Note: In this updated build, it appears to me that the default tree density has been lowered, probably with lower range machines in mind. The "Fractal Modulation" slider in the "ENV" controls can be raised and lowered to change the number of trees anywhere from Sparse to Ponderosa.

Version 0.8.2.4665

  • jitter filter for smoother rendering (alpha)
  • tree species clustering, 2 more tree species
  • adjustable forest distribution parameters (in environment settings)
  • fixed missing snow
  • suppressed white grass blades near the snow
  • fix for dark ambient in high altitude, brighter shadows on terrain
  • fixed warning dialogs for driver version checks not appearing, fixed driver build detection on Intel
  • fixed flight path recorder controls, flight path recorder saves to data dir
