Carenado next project Hawker 850 XP

I know this thread started as a Hawker one, but does anyone here know what is going on with the Phenom? There has been no updates or comments from Carenado for a while either with pics or Facebook. Did the project hit a snag?

  • Should be very appealing to the 12-17yr old weekend gamers

  • Oh boy, here we go again, another neutered plane from Carenado.   At least it'll be pretty..

  • There is some growing frustration here towards Carenado, but that is no reason to attack the people who buy/fly these planes. Nor is there a reason to attack people wanting to buy more complex sims. T

The PA46 for X-Plane is their top priority right now. Once that's released, I'm sure they'll post more updates for the Phenom 100, since that seems to be next in line.

Yea, Carenado usually advances pretty fast with a project, then there seems to a lull in the progress just before the release.

I'm not talking about demanding in a personal sense, but in a market sense i.e. as a customer you are wanting Carenado to produce different types of products to the ones they do now.

Unless you can source Carenado's sales figures that statement doesn't have a leg to stand on. The simple fact that Carenado are pumping these aircraft out at such a rate means that they must be selling pretty well. It would appear that the demand for such aircraft is very much alive and well.

Take a look at the Carenado B200 versus the Flight One B200. The Carenado costs $40 and the Flight One costs $60. Then consider that a great deal of the G1000 code used in the Flight One would have been inherited from their earlier Mustang and T182T releases. Don't forget that Flight One is a bigger outfit than Carenado and has a division providing real world training products - and as such are therefore far better placed to embark on such lengthy and complex projects. More complexity and features means more development time and higher cost - something that is especially difficult and risky for a small outfit like Carenado.

Not really - you can see that the Carenado King Airs are placed rather nicely between the default King Air and the Flight One of MilViz in terms of complexity and features. Without the Carenado products there would be no middle ground which is where a great many flight simmers want to be.

I'd say Carenado were never a good solution for the "run checklists and follow correct procedures" crowd. Carenado have always stuck very close to the SDK and as such are inherently bound by the limitations of it. The simple fact that you can fly any Carenado aircraft all day with the throttle wide open without any consequence is evidence of that. Likewise the Carenado aircraft that didn't receive the attention of Bernt Stolle often had rather flawed flight models.

Carenado have always been aimed at those who want something that is more than the default, but nowhere near the complexity of some of the higher end spectrum. That is how they've become so popular, that is how they've built a customer base, and that is how they are apparently doing so well. From a business perspective at least, if it ain't broke, why fix it? I'd very politely suggest to anyone that isn't satisfied with Carenado's complexity and features to move on to one of the developers that does cater for those tastes.

The apparent move of Carenado from GA to biz jets and Alabeo from esoteric types to GA is a very smart one from a business perspective. As we all know biz jets have been neglected for a very long time and the kind of product that Carenado put out at the price they sell would have a far wider appeal than something more complex and more expensive. They've identified a gap in the market and are moving in. Whilst the Alabeo stuff is a lot of fun, you have to agree that the esoteric stuff they've made thus far is of limited appeal, so it makes sense for them to move into the area that their big brother did before where the sales will almost certainly be bigger.

The mistake is in assuming that everybody wants ever increasing complexity and features. The reality is perhaps that the vast majority of flight simmers are quite happy in the middle ground and don't necessarily want a G1000 modelled to the Nth degree or realistic engine failure modes.

Go and have a read about what happened to the wider flight simulation genre at the end of the 90's - developers were stuck in a loop chasing ever increasing complexity, realism and features at the behest of their very vocal "hardcore" customers. Eventually the whole thing came crashing down because they were taking too long to make too complicated products that too few people purchased. That's exactly what will happen here if everybody expects developers like Carenado to get stuck in the same loop of acquiescing to some customers demands for ever greater complexity and features.

Absolutely great post, hear, hear!!!

I find myself most consistently happy with my Carenado fleet. They perform well, they don't crash or lock up FSX, there are no basic mysteries, they do little things like tooltips for all switches, the models are beautiful yet perform really well, and I can even go back to an older offering like the Piper Commander and find an easy, fun, distinct feel/look/sound aircraft that still holds up quite well to what is standard now.

Only reason I haven't gotten the B1900 is that it's enough like the King Air 350, which I really enjoy flying, that it seems redundant.

The Embraer Phenom 100, otoh.... instant purchase! :)

I was gonna pass on it at first... but really would like something between my TBM and ES Citation X.  I have the mustang, but it's a real system hog, even on my gaming computer... And no cold and dark to boot.

Bottom line is, I'm in for this one as well... But I'll wait for the public beta testers to do their thing first.  I'm fully retired from that department.

Why is there no Cold and dark with the Mustang ? Page four of the manual describes how to save the Mustang in a cold and dark state.

Does this not work for you ?

Nope.

It works for me. Could you explain what part doesn't work for you Hawk? I mean are the PFD and MDF fired up and the engines running when you open it up after shutting down and saving as outlined in the manual for C 'n D?

Well it's hit or miss really. No matter what I've tried (even the 'complex aircraft' thing they have), sometimes it works, but most of the time everything is C&D, but the engines are running... or everything is C&D, but I can't get the engines to fire up. Everything was great for about a month, then it started to give me head aches, so I sold it on controller.com for 800 grand.

It's a nice plane really... but there are other things that got me out of the Mustang business. One of the silly ones are the main pop ups way down on 7,8,9. Hard to reach, and I'm to lazy to move the order. The sound is OK, but it's not even close to the real one. We just never connected like other AC I have.

I certainly would consider a second go around if they ever revisit/revise/over haul, or 'Extreme' a newer version down the road (ALA EagleSoft Citation X 2.0).

Picked it up yesterday, btw, and I don't think there will be much public beta testing with this one. :) I'd easily recommend it.

I think some of you guys forgot it isn't necessarily easy to get access to the data needed to make an indepth systems simulation some of us desire. I am not surprised the G1000 in the phenom is somewhat light.. I knew a guy I used to fly with on VATSIM who worked at Garmin, lets just say they are not in the business of sharing any detailed information about their products so they can be reproduced for FSX and when it is shared its very rare.

I dunno.  I have over 850 hours PIC on RW B200s.  Carenado did a great job.  We actually have Hawker 850s on our Certificate as well.  It will be interesting how well they model this one.  If this is their first jet, I am sure they want to do a good job.

Respectfully,

That post was referring to Carenado's treatment of glass cockpits. Their steam gauge planes are just fine, especially the 337 and the C90 (I have both). The TBM and 182T were disappointing. Why do a glass cockpit if you're not going to make a reasonable facsimile?

OH.  Hmm.  From that perspective that might make sense.  I don't know as I don't own TBM or 182T  I have the B200 and the T210.

My thoughts (and hopes) are they can do as good of job on the glass as they did on the steam.  They will more than likely put in a Universal FMS which would be great.

I see you own Eaglesoft CX 2.0?  That is one nice jet.  Carenado will have their work cut out for them to be competitive.

Respectfully,

Jet

I think they should partner with Ernie at ISG....
