I wasn't going to comment on this but browsing through the 'Screenshot' forum and 'Microsoft sells FS' threads it's become painfully obvious a key feature is missing from our forums.  Thanks to the few very vocal among us they have collectively chipped away at the wall an brought it down.  We had a healthy debate about the whole issue but these guys couldn't leave it alone.  Some demanded a response for a vote and when they didn't get it their undies were in a bundle so they spoke on the issue again.  Then they purposely abused the system to get a rise out of the mods but the biggest below the belt tactic was personally going after Tom to ###### him off to shut the whole system down.  Some might say I'm not one to talk with so much I've said about FSX over the years but the tactics used in this one is akin to me figuring out how to sabotage peoples FSX installs (with a trogan) to get them to give up and switch back to FS9 and/or my way of viewing things.  To mis-use the system on purpose or going after Tom to ###### him off to get him to do away with the whole system is shameful to say the least (forget healthy discussion just sabotage the whole concept because our egos can't be bruised).  All is not fair in love and war and some of us see very well how this was played.   :Thinking:

I witnessed one of those who had abused the 'Disagree' button as a substitute for the 'Dislike' button, thanking Tom for finally removing the rating system in its entirety.

I'm delighted the system is gone - it always struck me as a childish plaything that had no place in an adult forum.

Well there's no disagree button (not that I would use it) so I'll state my belief in print instead of striking impotently at a button. I'm pretty sure Tom is big and ugly enough to stand up for himself and I had assumed that anyone abusing the systems he puts in place would be dealt with in the appropriate manner (of course I had also assumed the system would stay in place so what do I know? :rolleyes: ) I do miss the like button though as a way of showing people that their input is watched and appreciated without having to comment but I certainly don't miss its negative counterpart. I think you may be overthinking the conspiracy angle though but then I wasn't paying it that much attention so maybe you are right.

I couldn't give a damn about the Like/Dislike function. Stuff like that is totally irrelevant to me.

It's a shame a few ppl couldn't hold it in to the detriment of those who used it "properly", though, anything that has a "dislike" as well as a "like" is always going south..

Thanks Dillon we are ok here in Odessa, the madness seems to be confined to the East, a long way from us.

I agree the like dislike options should be removed, but I liked the Agree disagree system, except, I wouldn't keep score. It does keep unnecessary posts down that I noticed. Most of the posts that I was rated on and I had over 300 ratings, resulted in just the ratings. Without this system the post would be quoted (Some could be quite lengthy)  with a I agree maybe with a little extra or the famous +1 posts. I did like the original system minus the score keeping where in your profile, you would see a list of the posts  rated, so you can see how others perceive your posts. This gives me the chance to see if maybe I could improve on the way the way I communicate on the forums.  Posting text on a forum, in many cases can be taken differently by people then it was intended, which could unintentionally offend someone. I also don't think the ratings should be publicly visible, but only to the intended user. That way it would be used as a learning tool, not as a popularity contest. 

If only there was a way to harness all the time that some people seemed to waste trying to rig the rating system (ie up/down posting, multiple logins etc etc) and redirect it toward building FS11 we would be there by now.

IMO it's a great way to give feedback without unnecessary posts. Like +1. I agree.

 

It strikes me as odd that someone would waste time manipulating a system like that.
