DoveTail Games Buys Licensing Deal with Microsoft

hey there, anything that increases immersion in flying is wecome. that includes better lights, rain effects, water flowing from fuselage when flying in rain. all these are intrinsic to the sim and when implimented will be applied to all addons. also they would be cool to have.

And this is where DTG succeeds.. Physics wise, railroad simulation wise, AI wise... DTG have NOT improved the core of their engine a single iota since 2007 when Rail Simulator was released.  They've added eye candy and more DLC, and a in game store.  When you strip away all the eye candy and pretty menus.. TS 2014 is just Rail Simulator.. A pig with make up.  They prey on people who will throw cash at shiny objects

Hey, has anyone made any jokes about 'flying on rails' yet?

Well based on eight pages of this thread I am thinking DTG is not going to care what users of this thread and Avsim users as a whole think. With the amount of users on this Steam platform being in the tens of millions they can make a dumbed downed gamey type flight game (simulation intentionally not said) and with DLC make plenty of money it sounds like. It definitely look is like the hardcore simmer is not their target audience. Looks like the Avsim crowd at some point will need to transition to P3D.

All I can say is time will tell and im not going to assume anything until there is something that will cause me to make assumptions.

Shush now. We don't want to give Jim a heart attack now do we? He is already frothing at the mouth from another post a bit higher than yours!

Personally I will wait for some facts to become apparent before making any assumptions. Mind you, I am already enjoying P3D and even a little bit of FSX still. So business as usual for me.

This article has said a lot. It says they are going to release a "New game of  some sort" in 2015 along with re-releasing the FSX Gold on steam with a new host for online sessions as well as a "fix" for many bugs.  To me, it sounds like they are going to use FSX as a base platform and utilize what that engine is capable of to make a "new" sim under a new company. I'm not sure if this was already said...

Wow.

That's horrible. They're doing exactly what I was thinking. They're simply copy-pasting FSX onto Steam, fixing the (horrendous) multiplayer because of GameSpy, and reselling it for profit.

If by EA you mean Electronic Arts, I was a big fan of Flight Unlimited III.

If it's a continuation of MS Flight, I'm all for it.

Look what happened to looking glass the people who made Flight unlimited 3 out of business and they were many years ahead of Microsoft.

Exactly. For the amount they paid for that license deal, they are going to want to squeeze revenue out of all they can.

But can they force the devs to go along with it? I don't see how they could, not for existing users anyhow none of us are going to install an update that forces us to use their DLC market. I would think most devs would just move to the p3d platform along with most of the community leaving dovetail without a customer base. I don't think they will play us like that, I think they realize most in this community are willing to shell out big money for a good product consider that a lot of us spent $90 on a certain 777 so I would think most of us would be fine with paying $200 for a new sim platorm which kinda negates the need for DLC.

Here we go again.

See,,,,........................, interesting. I could tell Mr. V F how mistaken he really is...................but I won't!!

lol i am oversimplifying to save words but at the base its true. P3D's pro version allows personal simming for 'education' and general training. also 64 bit is in the works but they are struggling trying to bring old fsx code into our century. Dont believe me if thats your wish justt remember I was one of those arguing that weather radars in fsx were possible but needed special code but got laughed at by many including some PMDG employees. Now we have one coming in PMDG777X SP1, ifly 737 NG and aerosoft airbus X

ported some old fsx addons to P3DV2 , not looking back, not even a bit

If they can "fix" all the errors in FSX, I would be happy. And now they have the tools at their disposal to upgrade the engine and what it is capable of doing. Either way, I'm happy that someone, after so long has finally picked up the sim and decided to do what's right. Even though it may not be a completely new sim, I look forward to having a "bug-free" sim if it is all true.

You didn't get the message. They're not fixing FSX at all. All the bugs are still there. The only thing they're fixing is the broken multiplayer.

In that case, they better hear OUR thoughts, the FS community because we've known what we want for years now, and if they want a successful launch/profit, they better get our attention.

The best thing we can do for our hobby and this news, is follow that link on the OPs post, and at the end is and email and contact information. They said they are willing to listen to the community, so then mass emailing them feedback of what we want, and warn them of what we dont like and would not spend money on.

They have one chance to do this right, now is the time to let them know as they are making plans for its future.

If you care about a hobbys future, this is the opportunity. 20 emails wont do it. But with a flood of email feedback from a big part of the community, carries a whole lot of weight.

Exactly.. I have no idea how much they paid for this license deal but reading between the lines from Mr. Allensworth.. It was a decent chunk of change. Yeah.. I can't see this working out well..  DTG got a copy-paste... Lockheed got the family jewels.

I agree! It sounds ridiculous but the only way they will really listen is if we get as many people to "petition" emails to them telling them how much of a big deal this is to us...

Didn't work from Train Simulator.. Won't work for this.. They don't care about true simulation. It's all eye candy and DLC. Trust me, and trust the many others who have delt with RSDL/RSC/Dovetail since 2007 and understand how they work. They are not in it for your best interests. The quicker you realize and accept that. The less painful their incarnation of flight simulation will be.
