does DTG get your updated tool set for Flight?

No, that is my own work, but for the most part they don't really need it.  Flight has a much better set of tools than FSX.  They just weren't made public.

Methinks ....We all know that MS$ has long stopped the development of flight sims. I think that it has actually become a pain in the butt for them now. So, as a business decision, & to save the hassles of distribution costs etc, they have given ONLY the distribution rights to Steam. So, what does it mean to us? After 574 postings? NOTHING!!

For those that have FSX already, we just carry on, For those with P3D? you have the lastest (about 5x updated FSX).

For the newbies out there... Well, either wait for Steam to release thatever they will, or get P3D.

Again.. The people who spend the most money on that game are their biggest critics and complainers.. Because.. Where else are they going to go?

Just as we (niche that we are) have choices: Rise of Flight, Aerofly, XPX, FSX, P3D, DCS, etc.......

The train community has some choice, DTG, Trainz, Run8, BVE (Heck open BVE is free!) World of Subways (I still play that!) etc.....

What I'm saying is that if you don't like something, there really are other choices, even if they are not as popular or fancy.

The same will probably apply no matter what DTG does in the Flightsim arena.

FSX, XPX, P3D etc aren't going anywhere.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Where do you come up with the stuff you have been posting in this whole thread? Over the years I've followed a lot of wild trains of thought, but I don't think I have ever seen a series of posts that contain so many left-field, out in space, off the wall, scratching my head, huh, did he just post that?, posts as I have read from you!

You have got to be kidding me? You think that either of the contentions that I made in this thread, granted based speculative supposition lack anymore merit than an of the other BS in this thread? Look if you think I am so left field and out in space why don't you make an argument explaining why you think that is the case instead of just making another condescending one liner; your wrong, or your right, or I agree or I don't

agree post for a change!

At least the other BS (your words, not mine) is in the ball park or in our solar system; it makes a little sense. Yours: not so much!!

I actually wouldn't want to waste my time making an argument because none of this is a big deal!

Phil, thank you for this insight! Since I just don't know anything about the stuff working behind the scenes to put FS on my screen it was great to really learn something about it for once!

What is EVO How to get Evo 2016 FS9 Evolution Forum

Sure plenty of them will come here and get help and I will be happy to help any I can but I am sure the vast vast majority of them won't be interested in the help or FSX after they find out what is involved. Is DT going to tell potential buyers what to expect before they buy it? No they are not! They are going to paint a rosy picture of it for the unsuspecting and uninitiated. Have you ever seen a product on Steam that had a money back guarantee. Do you remember the spin MS put on it. "The computer to run this software hasn't been invented yet". No not exaggerating just wait and see the posts from the newbies after they find out the truth. The Janitor will be working overtime and the bad language blocker will be overloaded.

I think DT is definitely going to tell what buyers of FSX can expect. As I see it they'll post the same system specs as MS did on the FSX boxes. And how on earth would they paint a rosy picture? I believe what you will see on the FSX Steam page when it is live are a description, movies and screenshots of default FSX, Do you mean they would advertise a pimped FSX while selling a virgin one? I think that's rather silly...

Cheers, Bert

90% of the speculation in this thread would not exist had everyone simply read the press releases.

Nonetheless, I find myself eager to read this thread every morning. It's refreshing to be reminded that the community is still eager, creative, and passionate about the future of our hobby.

There is still speculation about a certain EULA; what hope is there for a press release?

FYI, X-Plane 64-bit is now live on the Steam store. Check out the first video on the product page if you have Steam installed. It's all from the vanilla installation, no third party stuff. That's what FSX is up against on Steam as a competing product in that arena, just in terms of the bare installation.

I was wondering if they would cheat the video, but aside from some audio enhancement, it looks legit. You would need one heck of a machine to run the full HDR lighting effects they're showing on those night traffic shots, and also for the density of auto-gen urban scenery they're showing. But 'twas ever thus, for PC flight sims.

I feel FSX will appeal more to the Steam userbase because it will probably cost less (to match the current price of the boxed edition), have a much smaller install size (15GB vs 80GB), and the friendly user interface makes it a lot easier to just jump in and fly compared to X-Plane.

Wow!! I never realized that X-Plane looked so good.

Seems like default download is KSEA demo. Rest of the world is in optional (free) packages.

Right, I was wondering how they would handle that. It's a little confusing, but it lets people only download the areas they're interested in, if they have slow connections.

You may be right about the FSX advantage in UI. Current stats are roughly 95% Windows users, 4% Mac, and 1% Linux users on Steam. Anything with a good Windows interface has an advantage. Also XPX lacks mouse & keyboard support for flight controls, so it will be gamepad or joystick only. That's another filter.

Does it really? From last time I tried the demo I remember some basic mouse flight control system implementation.
