P3D V2.3 Beta 2 Testing

That's interesting ... I wonder if AMD are aware Prepar3D 2.x is DX11 and "full screen or windowed mode" is irrelevant ... it's almost as if AMD think it's DX9 based.

Here is an article from Microsoft docs: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ee417025(v=vs.85).aspx ... there are things the developers have to watch out for, but there is absolutely no restriction on Multi-GPU rendering so I have no idea why AMD would suggest such a limitation?  Is this information current?

I know nVidia have successfully implemented SLI in windowed mode for many titles ... it's really a matter of driver profile support.  I was looking into AMD's dual GPU R9 card given it's cost to performance ratio, but I guess I'm lucky I went with two Titan Blacks.

According to what I keep hearing all the time from CrossFire users, CrossFire is just terrible and those who go for it end up regretting it because of the issues (while SLI seems to be more trouble-free). So I guess not supporting Prepar3D 2.x is just laziness from AMD's part or inability of the driver team to implement CrossFire for windowed applications.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for all your very friendly and informative posts... pleasure to read...

Quick question, my P3D 2.2 runs well and is the result oft he patches... when 2.3 emerges, in your experience is it better to do a full install of 2.3 or simply patch as we go?

Thanks mate

Doug

I honestly don't know what the final release will be offered as ... if LM repeat what they have done in the past, a patch will be available.  The beta updates I've received have required a different update process each time, but don't let that be indicative of what the final release/patch will be because I really don't know what the plan is.

In my testing I've had to wipe and re-install numerous times but that's just part of the testing process to make sure I'm at ground Zero.

Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer.

Cheers, Rob.

I love how you pulled things out of context so skillfully by dropping my key phrase "relatively speaking"; I must admit "touche". Here is my point (and I am in no way trying to dis P3D): Compared to all the class AAA titles which nvidia supports, even 100K users (which I seriously doubt) can be tiny.  BTW, do you know exactly how many p3d license LM has sold?  Equating that number to forum/youtube hits is rather bold and highly inaccurate extrapolation IMO, i.e. interest does not equate to ownership.

And BTW, once I really get tired of FSX and P3D gets further along, I definitely have plans to "jump ship" someday; I too await SLI support with bated breath.

Given the lack of available/accurate public data--even to a beta tester like Rob--youtube hits is essentially the only gauge of interest around. And I think he qualified the statement too: undoctored videos posted by someone other than Miley Cyrus that has 100k+ views. It's probable that the number of unique visitors is substantially lower than that but there's concrete data in there...

And, even in its current state, I still can't believe any serious simmer is skipping P3D for FSX.

My question was simple and genuine (and I would love to know the answer as I'm sure many others would too) ... adding "relatively speaking" so what are the "relative" numbers?  In order for your point to make sense you will need to provide some context.  If you are just speculating, ok, so we're in the same boat of speculation.  I provided some extrapolation based on real information/data available to me - what are you providing on the data front?

Interest can equate to possible current or future owner.  Even negative interest is still interest.  I'm just on the paying consumer end and pretty much a nobody ... having this much interest within my small context is pretty surprising and encouraging to me.  Like I said, I've been posting FSX videos for years also and never got this kind of interest.

I'm not here to sell product, nor to get people to jump ship, I get no commission, no benefits, no secret accounts in Switzerland to be exposed by Wiki-Leaks ... I do however get less sleep.  I'm a strong believer that a good product will sell itself.

Cheers, Rob.

I honestly don't know what the final release will be offered as ...

A disturbance in the force I feel.. Tue - Thu next week the patch will be released.

Forseen it I have!

Brave you are ... a few decades later ... I think I'll go with...

Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.    :Peace:

"There is no spoon..." hahaa!   Love that movie. Keep up the good work, Rob. We appreciate it. And, like seagulls, and bears, one shouldn't feed the trolls...

Any mention in the beta forums about the improvements within cloud layers for those using ATI cards?

If you want to "try" to get nVidia to think more about P3D, contribute to this thread ... there is an nVidia rep that monitors:

Hi Rob,

If you have a spare moment would you mind checking if the following bugs have been addressed next time you load up the sim?

1. Camera clipping through the ground from the virtual cockpit view (load up the R22 and move the camera/viewpoint around whilst landed, you can 'see through' the ground at the corners of the screen where it's closest to the eye-point camera).

2. The shadow cast onto the terrain from the VC uses the VC model rather than that of the exterior (so as you can imagine often most of the aircraft is missing!). Incidentally the shadow also seems to mip-map way too early making it overly blurry from most ranges other than very close.

3. Helicopter rotor wash effects do not seem to be working/visible (kicking up dirt from the ground etc.).

All these topics have been brought up on the P3D forums, but not seen an official response. Generally P3D seems like a really good program to me, but I do find it annoying when simple things get broken and are then left unfixed.

Thanks in advance.

Robert

I am keen to purchase P3D, but I am waiting for version 2.3 to be released. As for the "home userbase", just find out how many copies of the Academic License have been sold to date. That will be 99% accurate
