Prepar3D V2.4 patch will be released Monday 9/29/14

Featured Replies

I'm grateful for every P3D patch!

The update instructions look more or less the same as for 2.2->2.3, just take it one step at a time, it's not so complicated really.

Thanks Rob, can't wait till Monday!

Great install instructions, Rob! I will however install the full version of 2.4 as I have done with every update up to now. I will however not do this coming monday but only when I know for sure that Global+Vector+OpenLC, ASN and the new Airbus 318 will work with 2.4. Until then I am perfectly happy with 2.3 so I can wait. When I updated to previous versions I didn't have too many addons installed but now I have so I rather be sure everything works because I can't stand the idea I might have to miss any of those great addons for a day or so... ^_^

Other than that I am very happy (and surprised!) 2.4 will be released so soon! I am looking forward to seeing the Airbus 318 with glass panels! ;)

I'm grateful for the updates, but I can't imagine why LM won't make patching a much simpler procedure.

Good stuff, Rob. Your instructions are detailed and well-written. And who says Mondays are a drag?

I have no idea if a full v2.4 will be released ... I have not seen any mention of one but that doesn't exclude that one might exist on release.

The patch is simple if you aren't running any 3rd party products and/or freeware add-ons.

LM have no control over what 3rd party does to LM's product.  It is impossible to take into account 1000's of 3rd party products into a patch ... they can't and shouldn't or else it would be years between updates rather than a few months.  But this is why I provided this process to help those that do have a lot of 3rd party products.  I feel like a broken record repeating this ... LM can not update what is not theirs.

Personally I think the process is rather simple and certainly has nothing to do with "programming" - trust me when I say programming is 1000X more complex than what I listed above.  This is basic file, copy, notepad stuff that every computer user should be aware of - sorta like driving a car, you have to learn how to drive, same applies to computers, you have to learn how to use them at a basic level ... editing files and copying files is NOT programming.

Even step 8 is a simple matter of reading two files and comparing them which is probably the most difficult part of the entire process.  At the very least this process will give people an idea of what is key in their flight simulation environment and if you get thru it you'll have a much better understanding of your flight simulator and it may even help you avoid hours and hours of Google searches and forum posts when it comes to problem solving any issues you have.

Anyway, these procedures are for people that want to upgrade from v2.3 to v2.4 using the patch without having to wipe and re-install everything.

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks for this Rob. The main thing on everyone's mind I suppose is have you seen an overall performance improvement with 2.4?

[YourBackup]\Users\[YourUserName]\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files ... copy file SimConnect.xml to C:\Users\[YourUserName]\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files

One edit I need to make here ... should be SimConnect.INI.  There is a SimConnect.XML later in the sequence that is correct.

Cheers, Rob.

Absolutely one of the brightest bulbs on our tree! :Big Grin:

One approach here is to take screenshots of all your v2.3 graphics settings prior to upgrading and then just make the same changes while in P3D and NOT copy your old Prepar3d.cfg back over.

Any specific reason why you don't advice to simply save the current settings within P3D 2.3 itself and then import those when you have updated to 2.4? Then you will at least have all settings from within the sim the exact same and you will only have to copy entries from addons that have created entries in the Prepar3D.cfg. I am considering to give this update path a try anyway (as soon as I know all my addons have been updated if needed).

Many clouds (at max density) have less impact on performance so from that perspective, yes it's a big performance improvement on my system.  That's why I published this video here with a lot of clouds at dusk in a complex aircraft (A319) with terrain and weather radar.

Ah, I already wondered why there were two of those files in different folders. Maybe (hopefully) a mod can do the edit? That will save us a few posts about this on monday. ^_^

No reason ... viable alternative ... I probably shy away from that because I know in earlier versions (2.0/2.1 days) there were some issues but I think they got sorted out and I've just never "returned" to using that process.

Cheers, Rob.

That's why I published this video here

Great video! Great plane! ^_^ Can you confirm the glass on the various screens can be seen now...? Aerosoft said a bug in P3D was the cause of the screens not having glass in P3D: I had a good look at the video but I still can't see glass... but maybe this has to do with the time of day?
