Prepar3D V2.4 patch will be released Monday 9/29/14

I would say don't use your existing tweaked shaders but backup and tweak the new ones instead because there may be other changes we don't know about. GetScreenQuadPositions( quad, width*0.5, height*0.5 ); exists in the new Clouds.fx and removing the *0.5 values makes the clouds huge again. I see the patch has overwritten at least some of my cloud textures, it appears they are supplying a 512px cumulus01.bmp now as opposed to 256px in (I think) all previous versions.

If you have the time, Jim; I've also applied the cloud.Fx fix to my 2.3 installation. If I want to use the update procedure that Rob outlined, how can I make sure that the cloud.Fx file gets replaced with the new one - I don't have the original file, as I this ONE time didn't see the need for a backup... Go figure! I'm thinking it won't be enough just to edit the file back?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hi Mas,

The only positive way I know of would be to uninstall P3D, delete what's left of the remaining Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 folder and then either run the P3D v2.3 full installer followed by the v2.4 patch, or I assume there will also be a full v2.4 installer available on Monday so a full uninstall/reinstall from that would work also.

For right now however I just tested deleting Clouds.fx completely and reinstalling the v2.4 patch, the file was replaced with one dated ‎September ‎18, ‎2014 as was PostProcess\HDR.hlsl (HDR transition time tweak and "toning down the bloom" tweak). Rain.fx (rain opacity tweak: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=4199) however was not replaced.

...so, providing you guys get the same installer we're testing right now on Monday it would appear that you could simply delete or move Clouds.fx from the ShadersHLSL folder and the v2.4 patch installer will replace it with the new one.

Thx a million Jim. I'll try and perhaps fail, but a full reinstall is never a total waste... The again

Jim, will I get the same result if I delete the WHOLE Shaders library and let P3D rebuild it? By the way there are 9 "Cloud" files, should they ALL be deleted?

Jack,

Jim is talking about the files in the \ShadersHLSL\ folder (the one with Clouds.fx, Rain.fx etc).

The files in your screenshot are from the \Shaders\ folder. In that folder ALL files should be deleted.

So ... it's Sunday evening in the UK

Not long to go ...

Who is going to go first with the patch???      :He He:

Since the version 2.4 update will be released on Monday in the USA, that means we will not see it until at least tomorrow afternoon in the UK.

In some ways that will be good for us .... we can see how people are getting on with the install

But the last updates were available in the morning times in germany at least (as far as i remember).

I will try the patch as soon as i can get my hands on it

Rob,

I had another look at your procedure, and it isn't as complicated as I had thought. I was probably daunted by the wall of text! I have already found the four folders that you suggest need to be backed up, so that will not be a problem.

You don't necessarily need to back up. Just moving them somewhere else saves a step and possible error. When running the patched P3D those folders/files will be recreated automatically.

Gerrit

HI Guys I'm backing up my folders for the Update tomorrow and can't seem to find a few files, I have scoured my computer and they don't exist where I was

told to find them.

[YourBackup]\Users\[YourUserName]\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files ... copy file SimConnect.cfg to C:\Users\[YourUserName]\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files

[YourBackup]\Users\[YourUserName]\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files ... copy file SimConnect.ini to C:\Users\[YourUserName]\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files

[YourBackup]\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 ... copy file SimConnect.XML to C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2

I see a Simdisplay.xml  and that's it, I checked with a friend and he Doesn't have them either. I Have a few simconnect entries in the SDK but that's it.

Any Help would be Appreciated.

Hi Marty, it's possible you will not have those files if you aren't using any add-ons that require them.

Not sure what this means?

Thanks for testing that Jim ... a "Repair" will also replace the files with the originals.  But repair MUST be done from the original location of the original full installation setup.exe (not from the control panel).

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks Rob, will give it a whirl Tomorrow ,  would rather do a full install  my patching Success is pretty low.

After backing up important files, would it be worth running a repair install on 2.3 to put all files back to unmodified status, before running the 2.4 patch?

Hi there, Anyone any idea what time the new release will be out here in the UK? decided to uninstall completely last night as my patching process is somewhat hit and miss. besides, its always good to have a clear out as I do tend to add freeware aircraft and scenery here and there and end up with a directory that looks like a train wreck. Here's hoping its not too long now. wake up America, I need to get on.
