January 28, 201511 yr Moderator Actually there are downsides... I purchased the fixer and don't use it. The most obvious to me are the changes to anti-aliasing with DX10. With DX9, I use 2x SGSS (along with 8xS) in Nvidia Inspector... with DX10, it takes 4X SGSS with a slight loss in performance to approach the same AA visuals (and even then, it still doesn't look as good). In addition, on my system at least, the frames are not as smooth. Thanks MadDog. I did notice the AA and filtering needed adjusting. Other than Concorde I don't have a problem with VAS and frame rates are decent enough. If people use DX10 for better fps and VAS then SE looks to be addressing both of those. Not saying I won't buy it but it's not a priority. Ray (Cheshire, England). February 12, 201511 yr ...... Since DTG have not changed any of the basic default scenery files, all you need to do is go through your FSX scenery.cfg file, changes EVERY single scenery path listed there (and I do mean all of them) with the full path. In my case this was a matter of preceding each with just "E:\FSX\", because that's where they all are. I did this using a "search and replace" option in a decent text editor (I use UEDIT32), so it was but a few seconds work. ...... Regards Pete I would like to do what is suggested above because I have a dual FSX/FSX-SE installation with FX Global installed in just FSX, and Orbx has said they will not provide an installer that will install FTX Global into FSX-SE when FSX is also installed. My understanding of the directions above is in the FSX-SE scenery.cfg file I should replace every statement of the type Local=Scenery\Global, as one example, with just C:\FSX\Scenery\Global because the FSX Scenery folder is at C:\FSX\Scenery. However, in looking at the FSX-SE scenery.cfg file I noticed that it has 5 more [Area.xxx] entries at the end then the FSX scenery.cfg file because the FSX-SE Scenery folder has a subfolder called cities (with scenery for 5 cities) that does not exist in the FSX Scenery folder. So should I copy the cities subfolder into the FSX Scenery folder so I can point to it with the full directory path as for all the other FSX-SE [Area.xxx] areas? If not, what do I do with the "extra" five areas in the FSX-SE scenery.cfg file, delete them? Thx much, Al

Sounds like some difference between your version of FSX and the "Gold" edition on which FSX-SE was based on. The Gold Edition included Acceleration -- maybe your FSX did not? If you want to retain those areas within both FSX and FSX-SE then, yes, you could do exactly as you suggested. Or simply insert those 5 entries into the copy of the FSX scenery.cfg file you make for FSX-SE. You'd need to take care of the renumbering of all the subsequent areas though, which can be messy and take some time. There are programs that can help with that (*SceneryConfigEditor" can do it, I think). Alternatively, keeping life simpler, if you do not plan to use those sceneries (for instance I only fly in Europe, so losing US cities doesn't bother me), then just ignore that difference and use your FSX list anyway. If you save your original FSX-SE scenery cfg file you can always deal with them later. Pete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. February 12, 201511 yr Well, I have already completed a 09:40 long flight with PMDG's 777-300 and ASN ( internal beta ), and I used their time acceleration because otherwise the flight would have lasted around 11:00, and.... no crash AT ALL. Might this be related to the fact that I am using FSX-SE in DX10 ? Might it be the fact that I only use ORBS FTX Global, and AEROSOFT Madeira scenery enhancements ? It's all so smooth, stable and crash-free in my FSX-SE :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

February 12, 201511 yr I've migrated to FSX-SE and the performance difference is just unbelievable. On my aging system (i7 920. GTX580 & 12Gb RAM), with all the sliders to the right with the exception of Traffic (20%) I believe I'm seeing a (very unscientific) doubling of my frame rates compared with MS FSX. The one area where I believe it's not as good is over photo scenery like the Horizon/Playsims U.K. For some reason the scenery never seems to be quite as clear and takes longer to load. Ian

If you save your original FSX-SE scenery cfg file you can always deal with them later. Pete Hi Pete, As usual, you are correct. I have the Deluxe version of FSX. The good news is the FSX scenery.cfg currently ends with [Area.115], which is Addon scenery, and the 5 "extra" city areas in the FSX-SE scenery.cfg go from [Area.115] to [Area.119] followed by Addon scenery at [Area.120], i.e., only the addon area in the FSX scenery.cfg has to be "moved" and renumbered. So if I understand correctly, it seems if I add the cities scenery subfolder to the FSX Scenery folder, then I could essentially copy the last 6 Area entries from the modified FSX-SE scenery.cfg to the FSX scenery.cfg (although I could use the "local" form of path designation in the FSX scenery.cfg for consistency, I suppose). Thanks for your help (and FSUIPC which I use extensively!), Al

February 12, 201511 yr Vector works very well on my system, as does EU LC. I've also installed the North America regions and there ok. I think the problems will start if you try to install the airports. Ian
February 12, 201511 yr Not here it isn't. Pete Pete may I ask what you run your FSX Steam settings at as far as the display settings? Do you run everything at full? Do you turn your texture resolutions up but leave the scenery and autogen densities down? Just curious. Thanks Andrew Coste

Thanks All up max or nearly so, except Autogen one notch down, and Water on the highest 1. setting, not 2. Airline traffic (using My Traffic) is at 50% at present, GA 20%, road, ships etc 5%. Currently I'm using the same settings as I have in FSX, so that my comparisons are valid. When ASN is ready for FSX-SE and I change over, I plan to move the airline traffic way up (I really like busy airports, even if i have to wait in queues! ;-) ), and maybe try Autogen at max.too. I would aim for the highest settings I can get whilst still getting a minimum of a smooth 20 fps at Aerosoft or UK2000 Heathrow. Those are my worst performing airports, with UK2000 v3 being worse than Aerosoft's, but a bit nicer looking IMHO. (But at least Aerosoft's does have the Concorde displayed correctly near 27L threshold). Pete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. I will probably reinstall the Steam edition once they get ASN working and once the terrain.dll crashing issue has been fixed. Andrew Coste
