Side by side testing FSX vs FSX-SE

It would appear to me that it unloaded LAX when you moved away from it.  If true, that would be astonishing news.

Yes, I've recovered from my shock at one person's attack. Thanks.

A very interesting topic comparing the 2 editions, the video really shows what FSX SE is capable of, I wonder how many people will switch to this.

How have they managed to make FSX run better?

May have fixed a bug where scenery is finally unloaded when not near it.

Here is a more detailed test that I did and I'm very impressed

If I read the numbers correctly the virtual memory peaked around 4049000 which is dangerously close to the 4Gb limit. I heard no FSUIPC klaxon warnings. Did you have it enabled?

I wonder if the new code detects when it's getting close to the limit and then unloads something from memory to prevent the program from crashing. It's very encouraging and thanks for taking the time to do the test.

But wearing my half-empty hat it seems the program is teetering on the edge of the memory precipice and it wouldn't take very much more to tip it over. Love to be proved wrong though.

I dont know about you guys but in almost all cases of flying with the DX10 fixer in vanilla FSX, my VAS usage usually drops about 300 MB when flying away from an addon airport. And it did not act so without the fixer enabled. Now it seems like FSX:SE also is able to unload VAS on the fly, which is great news for sure.

yeah it did peak at 4gb but what I was trying to prove is that even with those crazy high settings I was still able to fly and land. For some people that's all they want to do. And my normal everyday flying would never have my settings that high. I've already done several flights from/to fsdreamteam airports with no problems

It is surprising it didn't crash when so close to the limit. FSX:MS crashes once above 3.8Gb.

What are excessive settings for you might well be bog-standard ones for many. Did you manage to crash it at all with even higher settings? Boats and road traffic at 100% would be interesting. I know many wouldn't use those settings but I'm curious as to whether it will continue to unload from memory whatever the settings are.

Think of yourself as the Chuck Jaeger of FSX:SE. Test pilots have to be brave!

I would also be interested if anyone is seeing any increase in FPS especially with the PMDG 777 at normal settings vs FSX Boxed, I know the Steam edition has used a new 2013 compiler which Pete D said could well make a difference. Its great news about the VAS issue for sure..

H.

I'll post a video with my normal settings later

On a long-haul flight OMDB-EGCC, not only am I seeing improved frame rates, but unlike previously when by now, over 5 hours into the flight, I'd have seen VAS issues, no problems to report with it in FSX-SE.

I,for one, am so chuffed that I made the switch. Now just a small matter of getting the several UK2000 Scenery airports, and one or two other developers' aircraft working in FSX-SE, and nirvana, almost, will have been reached.

Not sure if all the scenery I have is DX10-compatible.

All addon scenery is compatible with the fixer Ray. I have all the Aerosoft airports and hundreds others, and no issues at  all. DX10 fixer breathes new life into fsx, and with SE, it is even better. If the airports did not work, I would be using DX9. FSX aircraft including AI work too.
