Prepar3D v3.2 is out !

Stop using SGSS AA and retest ... even my two Titan X's can't deal with SGSS AA in dense clouds, nothing can ... setting yourself up for failure.  As posted by myself and others, no need for SGSS AA in V3.2.

Cheers, Rob.

I can with just 1 Titan X and 3 outside view monitors.

But I resized all REX TD + SC 512 clouds to 256 and then resharpened them.

However, for the best framerate I only used SGSS with fair weather .

Also I will try without SGSS if it is not needed anymore.

But the resized clouds are a winner for me. With 4 cloud layers very little performance impact now.

@Chris,

I was looking in the CFG's file folder instead of the main CFG file folder...

There it was with all my former entries....Oops..

Stop using SGSS AA and retest .

Sorry, but in order to eliminate cockpit shimmering of Carenado planes, SGSS seems to be the only option. Not so heavy on Fps when using 2 x SGSS as compromise.

Sorry for being the broken record but I just checked the installation/upgrade guide provided by LM which states in order to upgrade all you need to do is basically uninstall the old client in my case called Prepar3D v3 Professional Client and then launch the Install_Client.msi setup file and follow the on-screen instructions.

I know this is exactly what has been said in here several times already but I still want to double-check this really is all I need to do? And following this path will give me all the good new stuff minus a few things contained in the other parts which I don't even understand what exactly they are.

Is there anyone in here that can tell me exactly what I'll miss out on following this easy upgrade path and what the other things not included when following this path really are and how they will affect the experience flying?

I know someone already asked the very same question but I never saw an answer to it.

I can´t get EZdok to work since 3.2 update....it´s activated but there is no movement when I press the middle mouse button

Does anyone have the same problem?!

no need for SGSS AA in V3.2.

Cheers, Rob.

You wrong sir, after being frustrated of having my 980ti (yes single) under-used.. finally I managed to use SGSS x4 ... and it's like playing a new sim! ...by using all the in-game settings combination (I just upgraded to 3.2) it's nowhere near (gfx wise) to the above setting, maintaining the same fps I had before.

Yes, I just did it.

As for SGSS I'm sorry if I spoil your joy but if you use SGSSx4 in dense clouds I don't think you'll be as happy anymore with the performance...

Thanks for the confirmation to my  own question. I just made a complete backup making it easy to roll back to 3.1 should I want/need to so will give it a go.

Still though I would love to hear about those parts that will not get updated doing it like this and what those other things really are and how you'll notice it in the sim.

In 90% of situations I can turn SGSS off or to 4x and see no FPS difference.

The only time it hurts is with multiple cloud layers of overcast (not just a single layer).

To me, that says my GPU has plenty of overhead to play with.

Please excuse my ignorance but is SGSS something within P3D or NI.  If in NI is it normally set for on.  Presently I haven't touched NI and just have the bar pushed towards quality over performance on the Nvidia configuration page within windows 10

Thanks,

Brett

No problem with Ezdok and 3.2 here.I only updated the client which was so much easier than a full install

and feels a lot smoother to me than 3.1.also able to push autogen to very dense without any negative effects.

Just do all 3 clients - making sure you uninstall from windows add remove programs - pretty simple

Back up autogen folder and copy it back over replacing all files created by new installer before you start up P3D - You may loose some of your controller settings so save out a file and hope it works on re-import

Working ok here...

Quick question about the content and scenery msi's. They are very small but the uninstall shows in gigabytes. I know that is the scenery itself but I just wanted to make sure that I did not need all the individual scenery files from the p3d site in order to run these.

Officially retired

Rob and others here, I don't think (speaking for myself and apparently some others on here, too) that it's so much a matter of being negative about the updates, it's more a matter of wanting to fly more and tinker less.  Of course, the obvious answer to that is "Well, just don't update, stay where you are."  The problem with that is, at least in my case, that I actually would like to keep up with the Jones', but to do that seems like a non-stop continuous battle sometimes.  I'm still trying to get things sorted with 3.1 and now I'm looking at maybe starting the whole mess over again to go to 3.2.

For me,  a large part of it is the timing.  Developers, more often than not, I think, have legitimate issues with keeping up. That makes it frustrating for the consumer.  To me it seems like there is a significant shortage of aircraft out there ready for P3D v3 and it has been out for about 6 months.  Just with version 3 alone I'm having trouble getting current and accurate data from websites about which versions of their products are "really" ready for P3D and for which version of P3D.  I buy stuff based on what I think is good info to later find that I have to do this or that to make it work.  There often seems to be so many "ifs, ands, and buts" with this that it wears me down to where I almost want to say to heck with it and leave the hobby, which I did do several years ago largely for that reason.  I think that is also the reason the number of people in the hobby has declined from what it was before.  They felt like they needed to be a computer programmer just to get make the program work to a reasonably acceptable level.   I really do love the flight-simming and I guess that's why I keep trudging onward with the help of a lot of great people on here and other forums.

I think some people actually do enjoy the nitty-gritty part of the hobby which is the testing and figuring out programming changes to make to the programs.  Others buy the programs wanting and expecting them to work "out of the box" and when that doesn't happen a lot they just get frustrated. Myself, having somewhat of an engineering background, am somewhere in the middle on that.   I know we all used to get tired of waiting through the 2-year period it would take for MS to come out with the next version of FS, but maybe there was some good in that.  It at least gave time for things to settle some before having to cope with the next set of problems with the new version.

Not saying either side is right or wrong.  Probably has more to do with different personalities.

Just my unsolicted .02 worth.

Just heard from LM! In case anyone with a subscription license is thinking of upgrading HOLD YOUR HORSES!

The 9022 activation Error is unique to the subscription license. You will get the 9022 error if you try to upgrade a subscription license. LM know about it and are working on a solution

OK but why do you suggest I do anything else than uninstalling/reinstalling the actual client since that is the only one LM recommends in their guide? What else will I get doing it the way you suggest?

Looking under Control Panel-Programs & Features I only have one entry called client. The other entries are Content, Professional and Scenery.

Just did the client upgrade and all went just fine. I was asked to reactivate which also went just fine. On top of this I also deleted the shader cache, felt like a good thing to do after upgrading.

Launching P3D was successful and everything looks good as far as I can tell so will be interesting to do some actual flying. Unfortunately I won't have time for that tonight.
