There is too much fanboyism in this community

I hope I didn't come off complaining...just scratching my head and asking the same question I have kept asking myself...would it be interesting.  Seems like there are a lot of folks that like it.  Yes, I do love flying by hand...I'm one of the worst at under-using the autopilot (I'll get around to learning how to use it better...someday...but not today).  Also, I have a yoke and no joystick (*sigh*) and I imagine A320 pilots looking at me in abject horror...

"Aghhh!  A yoke!  Turn it off!  Turn it off!"

"I'll buy one...I promise!"

:)

Lol, no complaining tone implied Gregg

I have a yoke and a ch flight stick which works well for the bus. The only thing is I can't be bothered to get it out and plug it in half the time so I end up flying the bus with the yoke anyway!

Some 18 year olds have more real world flight experience than some 60+ year olds. Its a seniority complex that is part of flight simulation.

Well, back on topic.  I haven't seen any of the comments directly related to the iFly 747.  I have seen some youtube vids but I only read comments there when I'm interested in what add-ons or hardware the person used.  Seems to me that it's a nicely done aircraft, it got an Avsim Gold Star, I don't hear any complaining which makes me think it's like their 737...high quality...a good airplane for someone looking to scratch their 747 itch whether as a final solution or to learn while they wait for the PMDG bird.  I don't have either but I'd love to fly Kai Tak just once with an aircraft type that landed there.  (I was on a 747 that landed there at night in rainy, foggy conditions less than a year before they closed it...woh...we're flying between buildings in a two-story airplane....).  As usual, people's passions are larger than the real differences.  I'll let them scoff or gush and skip to another thread.  The truth is somewhere in between.

Isn't that one of the classic faux pas comments about the `bus? :-) I've always found that there's just as much (or as little...) to do as in any other modern automated aircraft. And don't forget you've got to manage the slide out tables!

The FSL A320 should be the definitive airbus, if it ever gets finished...

Ian

One problem I have with the FSL Bus is that in the screenshots, the vc modeling and texturing looks just, off. Of course, we need to wait to see the thing finished, but most of the screenshots we have now are not promising...

Easy answer to the fanboyism. Just make AVISM 18+ and all those little kids who have no idea won't be a problem.

Problem solved. :)

You are under 18? - it shows.

Why is age always used as something against people? I see this used as an argument all the time. "You are under this age?" or even just "I assume you are younger than me so that makes your argument invalid". I am 24, what does that have to do with anything? Does knowing that I am 24 now put some value to my argument now? Because I am over 18 am I now "immune" from becoming a ###### or making stupid remarks? I understand that the older you get the more experienced you are and that is supposed to make you more mature but I see cases where there are fan boys who are 60+ years old. I can think of a few topics on this forum and others where guys in their 60s and 70s were acting like children over something stupid. So why do people insist on using someone's age as a way to disqualify or lessen their argument when their age has nothing to do with the topic?

EDIT: I find it funny that the word "fan-boy" is censored. Is that intentional or just a quirk of this forum?

When they have nothing else to use as ammunition

Great question. I guess when people run out of arguments they use the "age lifeline".

I don't understand the censoring in this forum honestly. Reminds me of the hypocritical "beeps" on American TV when somebody says something "offensive".  Trying to protect the children from the truths of life is only going to make them ignorant, which is much worse. See here.

It isn't even just flight sim. There are a few other forums I am a member of that have nothing to do with flight sim and it is the same thing. Or just look on Youtube comments, it seems to be the default way of discrediting someone no matter the community or topic.

Indeed! When I was 18, I was working on flightline maintenance on F105G fighters in the Air Force. The majority of pilots and electronic warfare officers who were flying those aircraft were in their mid twenties.

The same situation still holds true today in military frontline aviation units.

Age does not automatically equate to knowledge and/or experience.

This topic has really gone off course.  Time to close.

EDIT:  The OP was banned in 2013 (AKA speedbird ATC) for his rants against PMDG and posted this topic after he received a warning from a PMDG moderator.  Speedbird 52 has been banned too.  Appears his past rants and abusive conduct has not changed.
