We must live with what we have and try to use it the best way we can. Instead of dreaming of the impossible

What an opinion. 'We must live with what we have'. Really? Do we?

If this would be the attitude of man-kind we would still be living in caves, still be riding on horses, sitting by candle light all night and me typing this would not be happening........

Humanity always invents, improves, that's just in our DNA. That's one thing it separates us from animals.

There is nothing wrong with criticizing developers, especially if they regurgitate 10 year+ code and just repackage something from an bygone area and get away with it commercially, which I doubt they will with 'Flightschool'.

The only innovative that I have seen so far from Dovetail is Martin communicating with the community, which is a huge step forward.

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

Speachless.

I've been following the development of Outerra for years now. I don't get why no one took up the challenge and made and distributed a working FlightSim based on this engine which would blow away all FSXs, P3Ds, XPs and DFSs within a year - and could earn the maker a fortune.

Kind regards, Michael

How accurately can Outerra model the real world? I thought it's procedural terrain which is OK for fantasy worlds but we need a real world model.

Unless you think the GUI is the most important feature of flight sim, only the last 10 minutes of that latest video is relevant. I don't like the GUI and to be honest I don't much like the hanger either. I find the P3D GUI highly intuitive and none fussy and I like it that way. As for the last 10 mins. of the video I still don't see anything new and if its indicative of the quality to expect from DTG FS at the end of the year then I am not even going to buy it never mind any DLC that comes along later. I'll borrow that famous phrase from  Marshall McLuhan, "The medium is the message" and suggest that we now live in an age where 'the marketing is the product'. Probably not a great parallel but it seems to me that there is plenty to get exited about in the marketing but so far I havn't seen any of that in what I have seen in the showcases. I wouldn't want to be negative about anything that is innovative and advancing the Flight Sim hobby but frankly that is not what I am seeing here.

A few years back Aerosoft apparently did take a look at Outerra as an engine option for a possible Aerosoft flightsim, according to Mathijs Kok they rejected it because they didn't find many advantages and too many disadvantages. Keep in mind that was a judgement six years ago - Outerra does look mighty pretty to me as well, but I don't have the expertise to judge its suitability as a flightsim.

Hence we will likely get re-warmed FSX in near perpetuity, unless something major forces a paradigm change.

There's of course the "next gen flight sim" from NGIS who have been "evaluating" tools for creating a flight sim for about a year now. They kind of promise that once they find the right engine to work with, development might be quick, but judging from how long it can take to develop just one single airport or one single airplane (Digital Aviation CRJ anyone?), I somehow doubt that they will have something to show within a reasonable timeframe - but I'm open to being surprised...

I really don't get why so many people come on this forum just to pass their opinion on how c£@p dtg is going to be, and how they will never buy it. So what!, nobody is asking you to, its up to you where you spend your money, as it is me.

I dont particularly like certain newspapers but I don't go on to their website to tell everybody for the simple fact that ' nobody cares'.

If you dont like it then I would suggest you do not waste what little of your life you have left! Coming here to whinge. Misery loves its own company.

I for one am looking forward to it.

Good for you and I hope you enjoy it.

Typically on a forum you will get a broad range of opinions from interested parties and stakeholders.

If there was no point in the less enthusiastic group having their say, then there would be no point in the enthusiastic group having their say either, would there?

You dont seem interested nor like you want to have a stake in it... so after a while you become more of a detractor than a contributor. Just move along if you dont like what you see after providing your 2 cents. I dont see the point in piling on a response to every post that is optimistic about this sim in its own forum. Imagine if anyone did that in the P3D forums? Rob would shut it down before it made it past 1 page.

I mean honestly, your last 16 posts have all been about the same thing! We get it! You dont like it, but dont try to convince us otherwise if we enjoy it!

I like what I keep seeing - actually the more I see the more I like ?

Am I crazy ?...

Yes, of course I am... I shouldn't have asked...

BTW: Is the uninstall fast :P

Jokes appart, I really like what I see in the last video, and I keep hoping that Flight School will bring me some good time while I wait for their Flight Sim.

Flightsimming since 1992

ill keep saying i like what i see so far . as long as when the full sim comes out i dont have to pay upwards of 200$ and spend hours trying to tweak anything ill be happy ...

I love to seat here and read all the comments from guys with different opinions and the others that think they know it all ...

people,, a new engine just for a flight sim comes at a price that must of the current simmers wont be able to afford the price for the final basic product with maybe only 1 airplane to begin with ... .....

Back some time ago when a friend an i had a budget of just over half a mil to start with . with were slap on the face with reality and realise is was going to be way more expensive and that was the end of the deal ...

I am just trying to keep up the long established and venerable AVSIM traditions started by Jim Skorna. :LMAO:

Members and ex-members have done exactly that in the P3D forum -- I rarely shut down threads.  I used to try to correct the inaccuracy of some of the comments/info by those that have never used P3D or just ignorant - but after a while I realized that was futile and didn't really help those that needed help.   P3D survived the onslaught of mis-information and mis-direction by members and is the current dominant platform that has on-going active development.

With the exception of EULA discussions, which are now no longer restricted, I left much alone as I know that a platform sells itself, doesn't need help, doesn't need me to convince others, if the platform provides the content someone is looking for, they'll use it, doesn't matter what I say or do.  Some people just don't like LM, some people just don't like DTG, some people just don't like LR ... their choice, just need to monitor any trolling for trouble.

But since DTG FS has not been released yet, I'm going to reserve final judgement until I get some time with it and see if it meets my goals/expectations ... it's got some stiff competition with P3D and Xplane, it'll be interesting to see how DTG do and if it can survive the same initial negativity that P3D v2.x got.

Cheers, Rob

In all honesty, I think it would be a waste of time to rebut such a nonsense. It is not an argument, it is a typical straw man fallacy.

Again, it is not the lack of technology that separates us from having a flight simulator at a level that many of us would like to see. It has more to do about business and about our relatively small community compared to other gaming markets. It is not an opinion, it is a fact. As I said above, it is not because you ask for a Mercedes that someone will wake up one day and manage to bring it to you for fifty bucks. You are obviously entitled to dream that this will eventually happen.

Frankly, yes, there is something wrong when 70% or more of posts within a thread dedicated to new preview shots in DTG Flight School come from people who admittedly do not like it and swear they will for no reason buy it, some of them going as far as to say it will be a complete fiasco. With all due respect, I have hard time understanding such attitude. Whenever I have zero or little interest to a product, I do not follow their threads nor waste my time trying to convince other people genuinely interested to stay away from it. And no, don't try to skirt around calling it constructive criticism. It looks more like you are here just because you want to convince yourselves you have the best toy in classroom.

Its trying to be an accurate model of the real world, and I would say they have done a pretty good job. (except with coastlines, which are being worked on)

They also have plans for matching regional rock formations and foliage. The holdup is manpower and resources, essentially.

OSM based rivers have just been added (and need to be cleaned up) and OSM based cities are on the horizon.

Meanwhile.... fantasy world? Take a look. (and this is from years ago, before the recent switch to higher resolution SRTM)  http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=661.0

Anyway for second I had a twinge of conscience and took a look at the other posts I made. Well they are all just opinions but they are all different and make different points and some make no point at all are just tongue and cheek. And so far post no. 3 has the highest approval of any in this thread. So I changed my mind. I am not apologizing. I hope DTG flight Sim is really great and I probably will buy but if I am disappointed and I think I will be I will probably end up making DTG FS vs Prepar3D V4 comparison videos to show to my 750 subscribers on YouTube. LOL! :-P

I saw Jordan's video and I hope that DTG does well. I'm now looking forward to the full sim. If they need a beta tester, I'm here to help.

MSFS 2020, what an amazing sim!
