July 7, 20169 yr If and when LM releases a 4.0 version, and it's filled with high performance and efficiency, eliminating the long-standing issues they can take my money on the spot. And it must be 64 bit.
July 7, 20169 yr And it must be 64 bit. Agreed! I hope P3D v. 4.x will bring a visually attractive and stable way forward into 64 bit so if I can't carry my old 32 bit based add-ons forward then so be it. Aviation, both in the real and simulated worlds is about breaking new barriers! To the future!!!! Kind regards,
July 7, 20169 yr That's a grossly unfair statement. Why not just call them "satisfied customers" and leave it at that? Yup. Thought the same.
July 7, 20169 yr Author It wasn't really a complaint MJ. It was a statement of frustration. I had posted my problem for a couple of days before the 'I'm Done' post that got closed and got me banned. I was developing a flight with screen shots along eastern California. It started at Yuma and followed the Colorado River up to Needles. Then crossed the Mojave Desert into Death Valley and then was to continue along the Inyo Range to Bishop for the first leg. When I got to Death Valley the desert floor was cover with a huge forest and I terminated the flight. I posted a screen shot of it and hoped someone could help me out. But since finding out I was the only one that had the problem I figured my installation or system was at fault. So I uninstalled everything and started re-installing. I had all of the North American regions re-installed and then re-installed Global. That brought the forests back to Death Valley. At that point I just gave up and decided to go back to FS9. If you read my 'I'm Done' post you will note that I did not blame Orbx for the problem. I said I did not have the expertise to troubleshoot and repair the problem myself so I was giving up on it and going back to something that worked and was familiar to me. I had designed some scenery and ai programs for California Classics for FS9 and that seemed like the logical thing for me to do. I really don't know what set JV off to close the thread and suspend me for a month. Maybe he was having a bad day. It was not the support forum I posted on, it was the Pilot's Lounge where we talk about many subjects. Right after I was banned someone posted a couple of his wedding pictures there. It's a place where we talk about many subjects and personal experiences, many unrelated to flying or flight simulation, with our friends. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
July 7, 20169 yr It is a safe bet that the odds are that the solution and fix to whatever went wrong with the migration will be forthcoming. The fact that a lot of people have real problems with it, no matter what the percentage actually is, has never been disputed by JV or anyone else that I know of. Stuff happens and people act according to their personalities, good and bad. If it can not be fixed as hoped, I am sure that a work around or an orderly back up into the old method will be engineered. Mistakes happen, and anyone who remembers what happened to the space shuttle Challenger knows that some can be a lot more serious than others. This is not very serious. This is nothing but a hiccup or bump along the way, or at worse an inconvenient interruption. Meanwhile if it causes us to re-evaluate our flying choices that leads to different choices, then it's not the end of the world to either ORBX or their customers. The sun will come up tomorrow morning in any case. Anyway, let's be thankful that this is one of our problems we worry about instead of something a whole lot more dangerous and deadly. However, I really would like to fly the MAAM DC3 one more time! Kind regards,

This made me smile, it shows how much over emphasis some of us can put into our hobby at times. Birdguy has the right idea by putting on the backburner for a while until perhaps one day he has the time and energy to work through it once again, FS2004 is enjoyable as well. I've yet to make the migration as I don't want the frustration so trusty ole FSX for me. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

July 7, 20169 yr That's a grossly unfair statement. Why not just call them "satisfied customers" and leave it at that? I fully agree with Stew, because I am one of the (I guess) many satisfied ORBX customers. I have most of their products and had so far very few issues. And when I had them and posted my problems in their support forum, I always got help from either one of the developers or another ORBX customer. Funny thing is whenever I post screenshots over at ORBX from flights over an area that is covered by ORBX Global, but has airports that are not from ORBX, I also show these airports in my screenshots. So far none of them got deleted. July 7, 20169 yr It's truly a shame how forums are overseen these days. They are set up for the purpose of "community", whereby people can come together and discuss their respective subjects, offer advice, opinion, and even constructive criticism, because without that, how is a developer to know what works, what doesn't, what can be improved. With ORBX, there is no denying that their products are designed with good intention and meticulous detail, but at the same time, there are issues. The extent of the issues can be argued of course, but overall, ORBX puts out good products. With the OP's dilemma, coupled with others' similar experiences concerning discussions and subsequent bannings, it's childish of sorts. If a developer doesn't want people discussing negatives and only wanting positives, what's the point? I believe my statement early on about how ORBX has to please the shareholders, warrants an even deeper look into the true intentions of ORBX going forward. Their recent partnership with DTG worries me, because it appears that ORBX is trying to secure their future in whatever way they can. Consider it insurance, in case FSX and P3D go the way of the Dodo. They call it evolution, and we can call it abandonment. Many of us still use rather old versions of flight simulators, for one reason or another, but overall, if a company like ORBX says "moving forward, any new products we release will require the new technology we have implemented", basically says that "if you want to keep enjoying ORBX products, you have to keep up with what we put out". Sure, their software is like everyone else, in that we buy licenses to use what they create. It's like we're being pulled by the shorthairs, knowing full well that what we are really looking forward to in using for our sim, we have to upgrade, migrate, comply, sit, stay, rollover. Posting negative or what could be construed as negative responses on their forum, reflects badly on them, or so they think. Constructive criticism is not looked at for what it is and that's where I think the disconnect is occurring. July 7, 20169 yr Maybe I should expand a little on this one. First, I own the complete ORBX product range. Nearly all of them are excellent, nothing to complain about. The present migration case is nasty - which should be clearly stated and not played down, though. I suffered, too, but I am sure it will be resolved finally. Second, the ORBX group includes a number of very kind and friendly members. I'd only name Holger, Maurizio, and Ben whose contributions I enjoy very much. Third, JV had my support in a number of controversal previous actions, e.g. the anti-piracy action, to name only one. However, I am not willing to support treatment of one of my fellow forum members this way. If they think this is reason enough to expel me as well, then be it. I'll have a life beyond. July 7, 20169 yr Author Almost everything I purchase online is followed up in a day or two by a survey asking how I liked the product and a block for adding suggestions. Doesn't the Orbx forum partially serve the same purpose? Provide customer feedback on the product? Do these companies that send you those surveys throw the negative ones away? BTW...Yesterday someone started a thread 'Where's birdguy?'. The OP asked if he could get my e-mail address or phone number. This morning it's disappeared. This is the second one. It seems any threads about me mysteriously disappear. Shades of Pravda. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
