Banned again..

Recommended Posts

It seems whenever I am banned from the FTX Forum I find myself back here.

Yep, it happened again.  But I was just politely expressing my opinion in a calm manner (using my regular writing style) and JV blocked the thread and put me on suspension for a month.  I can read the forum and my PMs but I am unable to respond or post anything until August 1st.

This makes my third suspension.

I was simply stating that I was tired of all the tweaking and maintenance that has to be done with P3D/Orbx and that I was uninstalling Orbx and going back to FS2004 which is less intimidating to someone with my limited expertise.  Most of the respondents were in agreement and wished me well with FS2004 and then JV closed the thread and suspending my posting privileges.

It's a tough place to post because even if your very polite but complain about their products or policies you run the risk of getting banned or suspended.

Although in your car if your going back to FS9 then you won't need to post on their forum anyway.

You got what you deserved Noel. Expressing an opinion on Orbx? What were you thinking? :shok:

Oh well, you should count your blessing be able to go back to FS9.   I bought many ORBX stuffs over the years.  Although their stuffs are visually appealing, performance is generally not good for the average user with average system.  So it's a love hate relationship, love the visual then reality of stutters and frame drop hit you as you fly, totally destroy the flight experience until you fly far enough from the airport then as you approach the hate starts again until you land.  I am about to reinstall with either P3D v3.2 or 3.3.  When I do that, many ORBX stuffs may not be back on my system, simply as you stated, too many tweaks, updates.

Jim, I have a lot friends in Orbx Pilot's Lounge and we talk about a multitude of subjects apart from flight simming.  Some have urged me to come back by PMs and e-mails even if I have moved back to FS2004.

I will go back because I enjoy most the people there and the camaraderie.   When my suspension is up I will return and continue expressing myself until I'm banned again.

I was e-mailed by one member that someone started a new thread complaining that the thread I had started had been closed and after a few replies the thread just disappeared as it had never existed.

I followed this thread and expressed my lack of understanding, which thread was deleted later, too. I very much enjoy the ORBX products, but in cases like this one JV might be better served to be more sensitive towards his customers, even more as birdguy gave a number of quite valuable contributions to their forum.

Flight simming can be frustrating at times, and the present ORBX "situation" which certainly affects more than 1-2% in some way might contribute. I recall someone else who was about to shelve FSX not for FS9 but for collecting stamps. He wasn't banned.

Kind regards, Michael

Noel and the other "1-2%"  frustrated customers suffering because of messed up installation is ORBX fault.

Release of an untested product, lack of communication and official support during the the last month left users  alone,

so they did all sort of things trying to fix their systems.

There is still no fix, and the whole Noel's banning is ridiculous.

There is certainly nothing in that thread that should have persuaded JV to ban you for a month.

No rest for the wicked! :)

BTW Noel, you are not really going back to FS9 are you? Couldn't bear the thought.

P3D and ORBX has ruined anything that far back for me. My imaginer doesn't work that well for me anymore!

Gotta see to believe...

Yea I got a screen shot post there closed and a stern warning from an administrator as 2 of my 10 shots "didn't show Orbx Scenery" One was taken from the back seat of a jet and scenery could be seen through the windows. The other was taken from under the jet looking up all the other shots were takeoff and approach shots.

Can't imagine a company banning people who likely paid about $100 for ONE of their products. Shame.

I'm already back Stephen.  Today I loaded all the California Classics North American 1960s scenery and AI aircraft and flight plans.

I am not a purist.  I like to PRETEND I'm flying.  Having been a real life pilot for me no simulator is 'as real as it gets'.  For me it's a game like Hearts or Solitaire.  But it's my favorite pastime.  Fixing and tweaking are not supposed to be a part of the game.

In my Orbx post I stated that the problem was mine since nobody else experienced it.  And because I am not competent enough with new generation simulators and sceneries to fix it myself I was going back to something familiar.  I did not blame Orbx for the problem so I have no idea why JV suspended me for a month unless it was because some of the replies to my thread agreed with me.

I developed a few sceneries and traffic programs for California Classics way back when.  It's home.  And I know how it works.  And with the system I bought for FSX and Orbx FS2004 literally screams on it.

Now I'm not telling anyone they should follow in my foot steps.  Those who can make FSX and P3D and Orbx work for them should stick with it  As for me I will flying the MAAM DC-3 in multiple liveries between 1960s airports around the world.

Noel,

I loved flying the MAAM DC3 ! Those really were the best times in the hobby for me. Flew the heavy iron around and around the world!

If it wasn't for you and other people like you, there would never have been this hobby, let alone the enterprise it is today.

Appreciate your attitude!

Noel, now you gone and done it!

Memories of FS9 everywhere!

It's dangerous to open old files locked away between the ears!

When on a tour I made a special trip to Reading PA and spent an afternoon at the "Mid Atlantic Air Museum", even being able to have a real close up and personal with their DC3.

Worth the trip for that alone!

Kind regards,

Stephen, with some help from Tom Gibson I did all the seaplane bases for California along with seaplane ai traffic using downloaded aircraft.  I did the same for the GA airports and ai traffic and aircraft for California.  I also did the military air bases for bombers, cargo planes, and fighters for California.  It was too large to host so I offered a CD that included all the aircraft for anyone who send me the shipping cost ($5.00).  I think I sent out about a dozen.  That was before the MATS ai traffic and aircraft came out.  That was quite some time ago.

I even did the old gliderport at Calistoga with ai gliders.

I'm still installing stuff.  There's a lot more to download now than there was back then.  California Classics is still alive and functioning well.

I fired up the Western Airlines MAAM DC-3 this morning for a flight from San Francisco to Santa Barbara.

I posted on that thread and there was nothing in it to cop a severe Banning like that! Its interesting though to see how everyone is tip toeing on eggshells, carefully worded posts so as not to upset anyone. By the way are you banned from support as well? that would really suck.

Contrary to what JV states, quite a number of customers (including me) did or do experience some sort of issues after migration. I have to admit, according to my experience ORBX usually has a quite extensive testing program, probably more thorough than some other flightsim makers. The issues we observe seem to have escaped them despite - things like this just happen.

What really bugs me: However this was caused, I would show some sort of humbleness towards my customers instead of locking them out in this case. This is just bad manners I can't tolerate.

Kind regards, Michael.

Zoran, I am only banned from posting.  I can still read the forum posts and the PMs.  However  I am unable to respond to those who sent me PMs in support.  The last time I was banned it was completely from all the forums, although I was still able to get support.

This is the third time I've been banned from the forum.  The first was for 10 days and the second for almost a year.  In both those cases I deserved it.  This time I don't know exactly why.  I only stated I was dropping Orbx/P3D and going back to FS2004 and why.  I didn't even blame Orbx for my problem.  Since I was the only one experiencing it I said it was probably my system but I didn't have the expertise to fix it myself so I was gong back to something I was more familiar and comfortable with.

But on August 1st I will be back with my old self and I will not be tiptoeing on egg shells Zoran.  I refuse to be intimidated by anyone for expressing my opinion.  So I might well get banned again.

I've never posted on the Orbx forum, haven't read it much, and don't really care ..................because I do use many Orbx sceneries with FSX, and wouldn't entertain the possibility of going back to FS2004.  I beta tested three versions of MSFS for Microsoft over the years.  The first day I watched my monitor screen with version 10, I knew that FS9 would soon be hitting the dust bin.  In fact, I made quite a computer upgrade for version 10 & X-Plane 10.  Amazing how good computers run this stuff!  Orbx itself, is the main reason I use FSX.  Just wanted to state why I like FSX with Orbx. There, I feel better....

I still use FS 2004....alongside FSX but not for flying.  I have all the AI traffic maxed out and go plane spotting at really busy Hubs.  Yea, ok, so I need treatment...but I enjoy the odd 60 min break from the norm.  Get some great screenies too.  Would not be able to do it in FSX or P3D with the same fluidity.

LOLOL!

We pretend to fly airplanes on our computers (a), so whatever we do, let's not get so puffed up as to think more highly of ourselves than we ought!

If we can not see the ridiculous hilarity of it all, and don't mock ourselves, we miss the best comedy show in town. Love your self-deprecating humour Arnie!

Kind regards,

(a) Yeah yeah, I know, I know, we aren't pretending anything but honing our aviation skills, or whatever it is we explain to our friends and family...
