SkyMaxx Pro v4 coming tomorrow

X Enviro-What I do not like and cannot get past is the 2D clouds and being above a thick layer and seeing lights on the ground, besides that it looks great.

With SMP4 you have beautiful clouds with volume.

With X Enviro what kind of immersion can you have after flying through and above heavy cloud cover you look down and see the traffic and street lamps, and building lights, etc.

This is an issue even with default clouds in XP 11.

Where I am it is 11am and am getting very nice depiction from FL30. Dense looking clouds all the way to the horizon with no FPS impact. Whether (!) that is 2D I couldn't care less - it looks fantastic. When flying through cloud it is the sense of flying through.. well ... cloud. I have SMP 2 and 3 but xEnviro is much better. Am interested to see what the new smp brings to XP users, competition always healthy.

Assuming here you are flying with xenviro 1.04 ? if so they dont look realistic as they did in 1.0 - your pic proves that if so - they looked much more realistic before thats what made xenviro so great to me your shot looks like a step backwards if this is 1.04  - just my opinion of course - I could go back to original 1.0 and may do that but there is features that are also good now in 1.04 including wind actually affecting the aircraft - so more waiting Andrey the developer is aware of this and on it and trust he will deliver

Yes it is with 1.04, the topic of 'realism' is something with is extremely subjective in our hobby. I am using XP 11 everyday now so for me at least I am 100% happy with the experience.

No offense and thanks for honesty just trying to sort out whats different now - is subjective thats for sure whats great to some may not be to others

The subjective part isn't just personal aesthetics, but how we fly in the sim.

I'm a sim bush pilot and helicopter pilot -- basically re-living my days in real life when I was much younger, doing aerial photography in different parts of the world from the passenger seat. Low altitude stuff in small Cessnas and helicopters with the door removed. Ducking in and out of clouds in mountain passes, seldom above 8-10,000 feet and usually a lot lower. I care about what it looks like moving through clouds and overcast at slower speeds and closer to the ground.

I do like the way XEnviro looks out to the horizon at 30k feet, but I'm just never up there in the sim with the way I fly. Also, I absolutely need manual control of wind velocity, not just pure injected weather, or I can't fly at all.

Anyway, I'll pick up SMP v4 tomorrow and post some screen shots at some point, from the low and slow perspective. I'm sure there will be plenty of others posted from up in the flight levels.

There is also a free update for the RWC weather connector if you have that, to work with SMP4. Check your email.

This is only a problem in XP11. People use beta versions of software and then complain that add-ons aren't working. And all this based only on videos they have seen. Oh well...

Just picked this up, for 19.95 after discount it was a bargain. Will take it for a spin and report back :-)

Look forward to your report Tony. Have V3, so am sure I will upgrade.

I think Aerofly FS 2 with the future scenery add-ons will probably become your GO-TO flightsim :-)

Ok, so far i am a little bit dissapointet. Contrails disappear over white clouds, and if you want to fly above FL300 with clouds to the horizon, you have to choose the highest cloud draw distance, which results in low FPS. And my map stopped working, but i don't know if Skymaxx broke it or its just a Xplane bug.

This is what i can say after one hour flight.

cptCaptain, thx for the brief initial note!

Really looking fwd for your review Tony!

Well, I am certainly not in a hurry to buy any :-) since I do not even use XP11 right now ... but it's good to know, should Austin ever decide to implement what could make me re-consider X-Plane eternal beta sim...
