I think there is a logical fallacy in this argument in that the question is easily turned around: who's going to actually fly to all of those airports? I usually fly to all of about 20 of them, and usually those for which I have purchased an add-on airport. For me, having flown into a lot of these airports in the real world, the feeling of being there is greatly enhanced by such a purchase. Of course, this is all down to personal preferences. All the same, I think it's important to understand that there is an alternate viewpoint out there, and that it is not illogical. 10 hours ago, strider1 said: The default airports in FSX/PD3 look like a dog, same goes with the scenery . ORBX has a cash cow in their hands ! Laminar crowd sourced airports are brilliant! While I agree the crowd sourced airports are nice, and greatly help to spread the load of developing the scenery for the world's airports, I don't agree with the argument that FSX/P3D look like a dog - a point which turns a blind eye on XPL's deficiencies in this area. Whereas many airports in XPL only have the runway layout, all of the airports I've run into in FSX/P3D are at least close to realistic. They aren't great compared to the crowd sourced scenery that is comparatively centralized, but it's not quite fair to ignore crowd sourced scenery of FSX/P3D, despite its decentralized location. If we're comparing apples to apples, I think they're about even. The only difference is that XPL's scenery is centralized, and FSX/P3D's scenery is more representative at default. Both sims have their strengths and weaknesses, and I still don't understand why people get so bent out of shape about them. If you like one, great. All the same, don't throw rocks at the people who prefer the other. If you want to bring up facts, bring them up honestly without kicking unfortunate facts under the rug. Seriously...for those of you who are willing to throw a stone, wait for a Steam sale or something and purchase the "other" sim. Try it out and attempt to enjoy it. I guarantee you will find things to like about it. If you don't, you're not being honest with yourself. Kyle Rodgers
May 16, 20179 yr The environment around detailed airports is far more interesting to me than cruising for several hours at 35000 feet, so that's why I prefer to make extremely short, low level "hops" around the UK, or stick to the pattern (and I do this in the PMDG 737NGX, PMDG 747 v3, and Majestic Dash 8Q400). Not realistic, but who cares? May 16, 20179 yr Over time I have realized for we who may not be so high up on the computer spec food chain, to get the most out of my PMDG airliner experience is to concentrate more on the aircraft systems experience and less on the outside scenery art. That way I'm less frustrated about dragging in on single digit frame rates or OOM. As some one posted some time ago, the scenery out side the window of real simulators the airlines train on is awful. My basic formula: Airliners = systems, my A2A GA aircraft = sweet scenery appreciation. Vic green

Not realistic, but who cares? I'll meet you half way and say that even in a tubeliner, a short hop could be as long as say, 2-3 hours, cruising at 35,000 feet over desert, from one beautiful location to another. I take frequent flights from KPHX to KSFO, varied with either P3D or X-Plane, flying aircraft from PMDG or JarDesigns. I can't explain it any better than it's a "thrill" to be down in the thick of it, aboard a jet, waiting on a taxiiway with a few aircraft ahead, slowly moving up to the runway. After the uneventful flight over varied landscapes of brown and green, I approach the busy airways around KSFO, palms start to sweat, I make the approach and land safely, with a modest taxi to the gate. I admire the expansive airport and all the beautiful tails gracing the gates. Longer flights have less of an appeal to me, but that's just me. I appreciate even the short hops across the channel in the UK, to points east, like Geneva. Kyle mentioned that he has a small amount of airport content because, as he states, who's going to fly to all of them? I'm pretty selective of the freeware and payware airports I own, choosing a network of airports in regions I like to fly in, whereby I could easily do long or short trips, depending on the time I have and what I feel like doing at the time, but more to the point, I look for airports with as much detail as possible, without causing too much of an issue on my system. May 17, 20179 yr Author Commercial Member Robin, Thanks for pointing it out. I offered polite public reply and a bit more direct private one. I don't play the cute game. May 17, 20179 yr Simming IS also for those other than PMDG users. Yes, believe it or not, there are actually non PMDG users out there, who do not care if PMDG joins the party or not. Some of us just want to have fun, without all the bells & whistles. We are just as important as you guys, possibly even more of us out there, & maybe the target market is us, & not the tube drivers? Fair, but you've posted this in the PMDG-specific section of the forum. Nobody said non-PMDG users were not important. You're just in the section of the forum dedicated to PMDG users. Expecting people to approach the situation in generics, while in the PMDG-specific forum is a bit like showing up at a hockey game and noting that rocket scientists matter too. Of course they do, but in the context of the situation, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect everyone to be talking about hockey (and maybe overpriced beer). Kyle Rodgers
May 17, 20179 yr Oops, Sorry! But there are some of us non PMDG'ers that still come to this forum for read & get an overview of what PMDG is all about. Cheers, Robin Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...

No need to apologize. Just trying to set the expectation properly. Didn't want you to walk away with the idea that nobody appreciates other people in the community by not realizing where in the forum you are (easy to do if you're browsing off of the main page's "latest topics" function, or similar). May 17, 20179 yr I haven't been following this thread in its totality, but bottom line for me:i don't care about the platform. As long as I can run my PMDG products, that's what I use for my systems knowledge requalification. We will always support PMDG....platforms are irrelevant. So the PMDG developers must realize that they are king....they can define the rules.... Well I wish Washington did win. The last time we beat Pitts. in the playoffs was in the first round back in 2007 when we made it to the Cup finals. I believe we (Sens) would of had a better chance against the Caps. ;-) But anything is possible in this series. We've been the underdog throughout these playoffs and we've made it this far. Beating the Rangers was a big one. Fingers crossed! (Not really a baseball fan. I'll watch it if the Jays make the playoffs.) Cheers,Todd
May 17, 20179 yr Hey Robert. Just read your post and I hear you 100% and I agree with you 100%. Dovetail should be called Coattail because that is what they are riding on. The coat tails of all you developers. They haven't done squat to improving FSX whereas LM has done a considerable amount. Heck if they come out with 64 bit I think we'll see the largest leap ever. But IMO it's not dovetail who controls the market it's the devs. If you all stopped producing for fsx and solely for LM, we'd see fsx dry up in a matter of years. FSX is just the automobile but devs are the fuel. Automobiles are useless without the fuel but I can can think of a lot more uses for fuel without the automobile. So whatever you decide, whether it be to stop producing for fsx I'd back you up any day. I have no place for a company that bases its existence on greed and especially one that does nothing for the community except drives the price of our addons up (if devs have to pay dovetail 30% it has to come from somewhere).
