Hmm, well if that is the case Jeroen, they need to rewrite their a marketing material. It clearly says on the video trailer... 3D clouds and weather system. It says nothing about the clouds being based on a 3D model. Tim? Anyway, either way, it does look impressive.

Marketing material that does NOT need to be rewritten doesn't exist.

But yes, all that really matters is if it looks impressive.

My own question hasn't been answered yet, though: if the weather part of Skyforce offers historic weather. I am happy to see SF supports other weather addons but having just one program for this would be nice, of course. But without historic weather I have no real use for the weather part.

That's what I am also very interested in, as I already stated at the beginning of this thread. I am hoping for it too.

To be honest, after watching the video they posted on their site, it did not really "wow" me, other than the Epic War Music they put in the video, I didn't see much that isn't already present with Active Sky! I didn't really see any super realistic supercells or tornadoes, or anything super groundbreaking. Yes the cloud textures were nice, but no different then the ones previous from REX.

Those are my thoughts.

They should show us something real from the sim. Like crossing a squal like over Texas in the spring at fl400 with an NG or Airbus. How about seeing one of these supercells over Illinois on the descent. So far it's just small clips of video and close up screenshots

I did not understand if it will be simulated for example the turbulence effect as it happens with other weather engines (for example AS2016).

I wish someone would solve already the clouds shadows disappear when you panning... more important then 3d clouds

Keep in mind that that is an old video when Skyforce was announced. I'm sure that the released product will be far superior to what the vid depicts.

In that case perhaps we should be taking issue with all those so-called 3D Films out there. No one is arguing about how effective some of these '3D' productions can appear, if done well.  However, in every case, it does involve tricking the visual cortex in our brains to see 2D imagery displayed as 3D. For me, without doubt, the ultimate on-screen 3D depiction was 'Avatar', a truly memorable experience. Also, what about all those VR headsets? Again, not true 3D, although pretty convincing nonetheless.

If SF3D comes close to portraying a convincing 3D experience using REX's proprietary innovative technology then it's a winner in my book.

If it was a video that is old, outdated, and a video that REX didn't want users to see, it wouldn't be on the front page of their product website, the first thing that users see.

That’s a sim function in order to save performance as to not have to render shadows that you can’t see in your viewpoint. It’s a “feature” not a bug.

I’d imagine performance, especially at mega airports, would be a lot worse without it though.

If a horse race always had 10 brown colored horses and one day someone brought a different colored one and said it would for sure win, some of you in here would shoot the horse in the stall before it even got to the starting gate.
