Hello Everyone,,

i have a question, as maybe I’m missing something. But doesn’t this addon redo the look of terminals, hangars, jetways, etc. for all default airports?? So, as a result, the ‘look’ of these airports is the same globally. Different airports buildings may have different shapes, but they have the same appearance. Jetways all look the same.

I do understand there are themes that can be saved, but with that, the terminals at the departure airport would still look the same as those at the arrival airport.

Am I missing something?

Assuming that you are flying to/from two default airports, that is correct.  I think small airports and big airports have different looking textures, but two small or two big airports have the potential to show the same textures.

Not sure if this update changes that, but it does fill the gap if you absolutely have to fly into a default airport.

Has anyone just buying this now managed to get the 20% discount noted on their store page?

"SAVE NOW! - If you purchased a prior REX product at the Official REX Store, SimMarket or FlightSim Pilot Shop, take advantage of a 20% discount! See the REX Worldwide Airports product page at the participating store for details." - ON the website.

But I am only seeing 10% in REX store.

I have sent them a message, but not sure if I'm missing something.

Cheers,

             Bully.

I have been using REX Airport HD since it came out a couple of years ago. It makes a huge difference in how default airports look, not only for the buildings and jet ways, but also runway markings. and pavement, taxiways, signs, day and nigh lighting , airport vehicles, parking garages, etc. I am not a payware airport fan, other than what is available in the OrBx FTX scenery or UTX, and maybe a few   payware airports. I usually fly with my VA to  a different airport every flight, so probably 10 new airports a week. If I had payware airports for all these airports, it would probably cost me many thousands of dollars, and frankly, when I land, I taxi to the ramp, shut down the NGX or Q400, start GSX deboarding and I am done. Doubt if I spend more than 2 minutes looking around. Default airports with HD look fine to me, and I am saving probably $5000+.

I think it would be great if there was a way to select 2 different themes when starting up a flight,, one for departure & one for arrival. That would be really great,, but then again, I don’t see that as a very realistic possibility.

But I most prolly will be making the purchase, as it does provide improved visuals to the complete airport environment. I am going to try to create themes for my home airport KPVD, and other airports in the Northeast. Maybe as I visit them in my travels, I can take pictures of terminals, hangars, jetways.  Quite similar to what REX is doing with their airport addon packs. The plan would be to create a theme for that airport, then use that ‘theme’ when it’s the arrival airport on my P3D flights.

Let me throw this out there.  I used it a ways back for I guess was P3Dv3.  Really liked it.  Gave the default airports a fresh coat of paint and enjoyed fling into them.  What I noticed was the product was also changing default buildings outside the airport.  For example, downtown San Diego, CA had some buildings looking  like tall, square Christmas trees... very bright colors and repeating patterns due to the height of the buildings.  Some were ok but some... well I ended up removing the program which I miss.

So my question to  those who have installed the latest do you see any of this side-effect?  Pick a major city and change the time to night.

I've used this addon for a long time and am glad to have it back again for the current version of P3D.  But, I've always hoped for a "random" feature so that different textures could be loaded with each flight without having to chose a different theme.

This is a good point as I remember the Zinertek (?) Airport textures had this as a side effect. It also put the terminal textures on city buildings which looked pretty strange since they were so out of scale.....and  very blue! I recall bringing this up to REX in the early stages of this being developed on their forums to see if this would also be the case with WWA but I do not recall what they said about it.  I have not actually checked this out yet with REX WWA V4 but I do not recall ever noticing this issue in V3.

Have used it for almost 2 years in airports all over. I have never seen anything like you are describing.

They're claiming they've improved the textures and added more which is why it only took 15 months. Really curious to hear opinions of previous users like Bob to hear honest opinion.

This is not a Prepar3d or FSX version specific problem....

I noticed this  issue when I first used the Zinertek airport textures as well. The Zinertek developer sent me the files of default textures that had the common texture sheets between the airports and the autogen buildings so I could restore them and not have the bright, glowing night textures in my cities as you described.

I posed this question about a year ago on the Orbx forum when they were showcasing the Orbx BuildingsHD texture replacement product. It would have the same issue, it would over write the generic airport textures. I never received a response.

I own the REX AirportsHD and also noticed this, especially at night.  Unless Orbx or REX build in some smart logic to differentiate airport vs autogen, we will continue to see this texture anomaly.
