Environment Force Discussion Thread

After couple of days testing, and after the HOTFIX, I installed back PTA and applied shaders. VC looks normal again. It is brighter definitely and I liked. SIM never looked better to me.Only issue I have is once I made changes in mini UI, when i start new flight, everything is again defaulted even I saved variables before.

I save as a present in manual model. Click inject its back. And I leave EF in manual mode. Auto probably wont change anything.

As for the excessive bloom, I found it works best for myself to turn BloomBlurSigma up to 1.34. This way I still have parts of clouds here and there that are glowing a bit when the sun is shining directly on them and overall it looks realistic and natural. I don't touch ExposureKey. The luminance adaptation effect is still overdone. I like the effect itself but I turn if off by setting TimeDelta to 0 because it takes way too long until the picture has adjusted to the new scene and it's too bright. Hopefully this will be adapted because I'd really like to have a (much) less aggressive version of the effect.

Thanks TG this adds a little pop to the clouds. And Delta off I like that. The EKey I turn all the way down for dawn/dusk makes it a little darker. Once I learn this app a morning, noon and dusk presets will work.

I'm out of game. After three days fiddling and tweaking I've not got Environment Force to give me acceptable results in "Automated Mode" with SF3D and Active Sky. Luckily I could go back to my former combo:

SF3D (no skies) +  ASP4 + ASCA (only skies) + EnvShade.

which is good enough for me at the moment. Maybe I'll give EF another try when REX comes up with a "real" weather engine. Until then ...

Bye.

I appreciate your insights but if you have issues with EF please post in the REX supports:

Turning off HDR seems perfectly logical for the brightness.  How do the nVidia CP settings affect the brightness issue?

So when you release new software you target a specific install platform.  What is it?  Is my 4.4 OK?

Thanks

Greetings.

So I have read all 16 pages in this current topic and I'm still a bit confused. Before I install SF and EF and screw my P3D completely I would like to clarify something.

1. I read J van E's topic regarding SF 3D with Active Sky, ASCA, ENVTEX working together, and I wonder where EF will fit into?

I have: Active Sky + ASCA for dynamic skies with ENVTEX sky textures, PTA

So per that topic I mentioned, I can make everything work together using the following combo:

REX Sky Force 3D and Active Sky plus ASCA for dynamic skies with ENVTEX sky textures, PTA.

That topic was posed sometime ago and EF was not available. So where EF will fit into that combination above? If I install SF3D and EF and use Active Sky as weather engine, do I still need ENVTEX? I hope J van E will be kind enough to update the topic he posted with EF as well.

2. I understand it will be better to wait till REX issues another hotfix to fix issues with PTA, correct?

Thanks guys.

You might have saved the variables but you have to "load" them....the button below,  load will load your last saved variables.

Are you sure you have read all 16 pagers?

All the answers are there. But never mind.

You rename your ASCA exe to exe.off. You don't need it anymore unless you revert back to what your use now. BTW that's the set up I was running and pointed all this out somewhere in the 16 pagers.

You just use SF & EF with ASP4.

You turn off the first two options in EF Auto mode as they're not needed with ASP4

You make sure SF and EF textures are both set to DTX5 512.

You would be fine now with PTA/TS if you get way to much bloom turn HDR off within the EF mini UI also pointed out a few pages ago.

Enjoy!

Hi all - For anyone that might be having the HDR issue where you have no control of the P3D in-sim HDR lighting sliders, if you use Chaseplane go in and see if you have the HDR override feature enabled.  I have always had that enabled in Chaseplane so when I turned off HDR in the EF minUI and tried to set my HDR manually through the sim it was not working.  A light bulb then went off this evening and I went into Chaseplane and disabled that and my HDR sliders were back working.  Just an idea for anyone that might have that issue as I had done shader deletes, HLSL restores, P3D client reinstall, etc thinking something was really broken.  It appears I now am back to my original pre-EF state.  Since I am a PTA user I will probably wait for the next hotfix and have another go with it.

Thanks for reply. Yes, I did read all 16 pages. The thing is that so many people have so many suggestions and I started loosing my head. I started copy and paste suggestions to my notes and I was still confused. So appreciate the advise very much. I will give it a try today. I hope I won't have much issues with HRD.

Thanks again

Where is that? I don't see it.

Sorry, I don't recall now, and I've uninstalled EF. It's on the right-hand side in one of the main Manual Mode options in the main program. Oddly I don't think it on the Lighting one.

Hope that does the trick then Pete.

Well, unfortunately EnvShade doesn't appear to exist on my PC despite having installed it and the latest patch. Shouldn't there be a EXE to run?

So, I downloaded ENVDIR in case that was needed, but although that does have an EXE, when that it run, nothing happens. This is with "as administrator" too.

Puzzled. 😞

It's in the mini UI option is to turn off REX HDR.

So what's the HDR on/off switch inthe main program? I would have thought that took precedence. An earlier post said the one in the mini-UI (which i've never seen) needs redoing for every scenario after loading. Ugh.

Technical update #1 was the first HotFix to address mainly grey panel issues when using PTA or Tomato shaders with Environment force.

Shorty after that was released a further technical update was announced as "coming" and that is supposed to fix, among other things, the HDR issues. Still not released this HotFix.

Well, after uninstalling EF including its DLL I got HDR back, but no colour. Just grey sky and black ground with white autogen. I'm going to try P3D4.5 content repain in the morning, as suggested earlier. If that doesn't work it looks like a full re-install of everything, yet again! Then I may not re-surface for a few days ...  😞

Hi skysurfer

Some reassurance

I am in the same boat ie a bit lost!

However I did have a functioning system following the P3D tips section so clearly set out by J van E plus Nyxx

Active Sky,SkyForce plus PTA was my setup

Now added Rex EnvForce plus Hotfix

Updated P3Dv4.4 to 4.5

Run EnvForce in  Automation Mode

All seems to work but a work in progress

xxd09

PS Active Sky seems to set the Clouds-types of and heights

Skyforce gives depth and structure

EnvForce makes it dynamic

Shaders are something I am still learning about

I think SkyForce doesn’t need to be activated-EnvForce finds it and uses it

Still learning........!

Wish it was as easy for me. I don't have ChasePlane or anything else that has ever taken HDR control away (nor turned everything black/gray/white)
