New MS Flight Sim shown at E3

OK, I note the pessimism in many replies here (fair enough, don't blame you) as well as the positive and hopeful replies (good on you) but personally I'll be cautiously glass half full on this one.

I think the worst case is still pretty good. If MS comes out with some janky Flight II pile of junk, the fact that MS is getting back into the flight sim game might just spur hardware developers to release some more flight controllers.

The current state of sim hardware is atrocious. You either buy cheap junk for $100, slightly less cheap junk for $300, or really good stuff for a grand and up. Or you're like me and you're still using a Saitek X45 because the only things out there today that are properly featured and don't feel like Galoob's Baby's First Cockpit because they use the cheapest, lightest plastics everywhere are insanely expensive and the underpinnings are often poor quality.

Used to be I could go get a HOTAS setup *and* a racing wheel with pedals for less than the Warthog costs now. It'd be nice if competition increased again to bring prices back down to reasonable levels, and I think maybe MS re-inserting itself into the genre might help.

You’re asking too much.

It can take 1 dev a year to complete a major airport.

If you want the base sim to have all that it’d be a subscription or...DLC

It takes our 3rd party developers more than a year to complete a major airport or aircraft or utility, but they are just a couple of people, working on that specific project, part-time

MS could have a staff, that have a team of several people, who have several people, all full time dedicated to a single part of the project - not too much to ask.

Yes we love our 3rd party developers, however....

Anybody notice how many 3rd parties we have, that have so many "problems", or "real world jobs", or somebody is sick or dying, or they need to wait for "that" or "this" or "them". There is almost always something hindering most of the time.

We do need a flight sim developer to develop that single "go to", full world, full featured flight sim that does not rely too heavily on 3rd parties, because most (not all) of our 3rd party developers are bogged down with something or another. We all can write a list and point to forum posts full of excuses/delays from nearly every 3rd party big and small.

In my experience, Pete Dowson is one of the few who clearly communicates holiday/away time, and when he is around, he does work hard to make his products work, and helps as much as humanly possible every time there is a possible issue. A shining example. There are couple others like this in my experience, for example Hi Fi Technologies, Jose at FSAerodata, and Vahid at SimElite. They make no excuses and they get it done as fast as possible with a smile.

Did anybody see the FS Expo clip where X-plane was asked about ATC? Did anybody hear the excuses go to, we have to just wait? Rather than just defer to online or 3rd party options, they still have a plan to make default ATC great. Maybe never for all we know. The XP project started, what in like 1996? But ATC is important to them (??). Even LM has its bouts with 1 step forward 2 steps back more often than not, and still a lot has to be fixed, but when? At least LM is not making excuses, but that professional plus change list is another one of those things that classifies them in that "something hindering most of the time" category for most of us.

Yes, we need 3rd parties, but only to push the envelope and break new ground. To have a new MSFS bring that envelope to a more current standard is welcome. And if this helps get the lead out of 3rd party development that would be even more welcome.

But its true, we know so little about MS intentions this time by, so its possible this new MSFS is a big waste of time, and we will be forever stuck in the "wait forever state"....I hope not.

I choose to forgive and forget until or unless its foolish/useless to do so.

Xbox is Microsoft's gaming brand which encompasses all platforms, not just console.

To continue the 'bad news' it still not an Xbox title! It's available on both Xbox AND PC! Read the bottom of the page:

Platform
Xbox, Windows 10

Also, the PC version comes first. So please stop spreading this kind of information, when it's quite clear that it's not true...

That simply confirms what I said: Xbox is a target platform.  Thanks for clearing that up. 😄

@eslader

Great point - I'm personally still using a MS FF Sidewinder.

It'd be awesome if they do some new hardware, Force Feedback in particular, to coincide with this.

MS makes great peripherals I think

If its any kind of in depth sim with the visuals like it is displayed, it will need PCs to run well. Not necessarily the latest and greatest, but I think any reasonably heavy duty pc will outmatch a console, even the future gen consoles in the works.

At this point you're just being obtuse because you were proven wrong multiple times.

I am quite positive that MS is going to be using gpu server farms to render insane amount of satellite data with power of AI (we are still at early machine learning stage).  Graphics are just awesome period.

Lets hope it is open and has SDK - that is what we need.

DA62 map had waypoints and other navigaton aids on the Garmin.

Has 100% potential to be game changer - we all will find out by 2020 or sooner once we have some alpha/beta testers

Yeah - As much as I love X-Plane, I'm totally done with their excuses on core things like ATC and proper weather.

Austin always has some diversion or weird "thing" he's more concerned about than core major things we'd all like addressed about 10 years ago.

Huh?! What?!

Look, I'm not gonna debate with you, since you're clearly unable to fathom (or unwilling - I don't know which is worse, to be honest...) what I'm/we're saying and trying to explain to you...

Obviously you're so stuck in you way, and cannot (or - again - will not) accept that you might be wrong or that there's an 'alternate' version of the way you observe the world... I give up! Believe what you want... I'm done with this!

Best regards,

Ladies and Gentlemen I love capitalism.  New player emerges (in this case old one who became new - see stock too - huge turn around story - had to fire Balmer...lol).

I just hope it is not like MS Flight.

On the graphics front - everyone has to amp their game up period - that much is given.

Till 2020, I will enjoy the sims I have and eagerly wait for this new sim to come up.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Microsoft is going out of its way to advertise this as an Xbox title.  Here's the official website:

https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/microsoft-flight-simulator

The official Twitter announcement was for PC. It's Windows 10 and XBOX, so XBOX is not the target group.

The website only lists XBOX one place on the page alongside Windows 10.
