My counter argument would be: they didn't manage to release an addon with noise generated clouds or volumetric clouds during all these years, do i really want to believe they managed to do it just now and for a new simulator?

That's how progress works. 😄

Well it is possible because the new simulator =  new engine with a radically superior technology compared to ESP.

For X-Plane 11 engine, an add-on called X-Enviro offers noise generated clouds. Although not as true to life and complex as the one from Asobo`s engine, yet it became possible with new engines, GPUs etc.

I was wondering if the new Sim would be worth it for me as I like to fly high & fast, seeing those skies I am now a believer.

On the downside my PC is sobbing in the corner..... 😂

Wondering if terrain will cast shadows? At 7:50 in the video where the time of day slider is demonstrated, the terrain shadows do not appear to change?

They did state that it does in a couple of the interviews. He mentions in this video that the mountains will even cast shadows on clouds that are below.  But you are correct, I do not notice any terrain shadowing in that part...

My point being, i would have expected them to show such progress in the current simulators. Just like xEnviro did for Xplane (showing it is possible to move from billboard based clouds to volumetric ones

Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

I'm going to badly injure my jaw as it's hitting the floor that much with seeing all these amazing updates.

Umm. That's for sure.. (the bolded part)

X-Enviro stuff looked like weather from a planet I've never been on.

For X-Plane 11 and other simulators on the market, X-Enviro is great for what it is... Until we see better indeed.

I heard that DCS will have volumetric clouds in the upcoming engine version...

Glad you like it.

I think it sucks (just being honest)

Stunning update once again! Eases the pain of not getting into the tech alpha a little. Apart from the awesome clouds, rain shafts, raindrops and what not I’m particularly taken by the night lighting. There may be no illuminated windows (so far) but the overall atmosphere is spot on.

Are those screens all from MSFS?

Ye I know, but my point is not a single light on the sky scrapers is turned on.  In reality there would be a decent amount of them on in big cities (would expect half of them at least).  Doesn't matter how well it is shown, but they need to be on!

They have talked about making the world more alive later in the process.
