Well I think they might come close with this. Do you have an example picture of what you're looking for?

I don't.

but I do have these two shots Id like to share that show the general blue attitude I want to see:

I4DDRKE.jpg

9ifr1to.jpg

both are taken from ground level so it may look different from up in the air but I dont think anyone could disagree that there are just days when everything is just blue -- like in these pics.

The bottom part of the sky in the upper pic is what Im picturing as an overcast coverage.

but I think its also important for MS to know that they have done a tremendous job with what they have right now and Id be very happy with it.  like I said, i think I want too much.

"That's why it came to mind to add wildfires"

Why? Whats next, Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Hail storms etc?

These guys are masters of Graphics shaders. In time, I'm sure they will add shader based effects for everything: seasonal tree changes, water and snow accumulation, wild fires and smoke, dust storms, hail storms and maybe tsunami's but that is a stretch because it's so uncommon.

I actually do think that they are already able to create these skies, but that they deliberately choose more dramatic shots right now. Most people like a lot of color and contrast and you get that by taking pictures when the sun is low with a broken or scattered cloud deck. Cloud coverage may actually darken the environment a bit too dramatic at this time, but we don't know the density of those clouds. We'll find out when we get our hands on some build.

This is pure speculation but MS might use the new FS as a showcase to demonstrate what's possible with their Bing data and Azure AI (could be of interest for their corporate users and companies). It's like a giant benchmark they're making for every future game.

It goes without saying Microsoft are using this to promote there own services, there is further proof of this with Asobo producing the Seattle virtualisation demo for the Hololens. However listening to the Microsoft team producing Microsoft Flight Simulator you can also tell there is a deep passion to bring back flight simulation and to do it right this time. Like the recent renaissance in VR where several new technologies and systems have come together at the same time which have made this happen and us flight simmers are the big winners.

I think I would just settle for wet runways! The iceing video is really exciting but it does open up the door for adding snow and seasonable effects to the sim.

I guess even though we are what just over a year out on release the clock is already ticking and there is only so much you can do in 12 months which is why we should perhaps lower our expectations, if they add some missions and tutorials, a decent ATC and polish what they have, I would be more than delighted!

There is still a massive amout of work to do and I think key to what is missing so far is the ATC and airport experience particularly for the big jets so even with all the good graphics if the experience for a controlled airport suck that could be a major detraction to the sim on release.

I agree with others that they will be using Flight Simulator 2020 to promote other parts of the business and technologies but I also think it will be the showcase title for Dx12 which has been somewhat overshadowed by Vulkan.

And yes, it is currently Dx11 but they have already said it is being moved to Dx12

They did? That's new to me. Do you recall the article or video where that was said?

I think it was mentioned in the Q&A session at the Renton event. It rings a bell.

It may be referred to in an FSelite article/video about the technical side of what was learnt from Asobo/MS in Renton.

I want them to concentrate on the base sim (which I'm also pretty sure is their main goal), I for one couldn't care less about disasters in the sim.

Come on man, no need to be so salty. Earthquakes and tsunamis have nothing to do with aviation, so I won't be asking for those to be added. Forest fires, volcano eruptions and hail storms can have an impact on airplanes. And I agree, those are the kind of things that can be added afterwards, post 1.0 release. And even if they don't add them, fine, I won't miss it!

I expect this to be a live product, meaning that additional features will be added post release (like an improved ATC or AI traffic). We might even have to wait 2, 3 or more years before the sim is actually "finished".
