Major developers shelve P3D development

Boy this topic has diverted from what the initial question was by about 180 degrees.

Back on topic. Most developers continue with their projects for P3D and XP, nothing has fundamentally changed a part of lower sales in comparison with previous times before the news regarding MSFS.

Having said that, it seems that was a short  reaction from customers at the beginning since eventually sales are picking up lately.

Think about it, would it makes sense to developers to just stop now? Or continue and still get sales at this time? In order to survive you have to keep moving. Maybe some have re-aligned their priorities and projects, I have certainly done that. But stopping would be suicide.

Conclusion, if anyone has doubts or questions regarding a project put on hold or cancelled please ask these directly to such developer. There will be able to explain their reasons.

We are still waiting for MSFS SDK to assess what, how and when we can produce for this platform. Please be patient, we are all on the same boat, our responsibility lies with our customers first.

Please be nice with each other, seeing so much arguments is not a positive force for anybody regardless of their preferred platform.

Regards,

Simbol

That's a nice point. So would be MSFS beta testers be obliged to identify in their sigs according to AVSIM policy or forbidden to identify by the NDA itself?

Maybe a mod can answer this?

Kind regards, Michael

Not a mod but was a Beta Tester for FSX back in the day and was NOT allowed to acknowledge that was the case...

Thanks, that's what I guessed. And, without knowing the NDAs, I would suppose the same might apply indeed for Prepar3d (and supposedly some other) beta testers.

No, all NDAs are different. Including the new ones for MSFS.

Regarding MS, there are currently 2 NDAs. One for Alpha testers which is a bit more relaxed you could say and another for 3rd party developers. This time saying you are under NDA is not a restriction in the wording of both documents.

Thanks Simbol, for making this clear.

- rotating 2D clouds

- disappearing and reappearing cloud shadows depending on view angle

- stars filling the sky while the sun is shining brightly

- AI aircraft not separated at all, thus going around all the time, also sometimes getting stuck on taxiways and eventually going poof

- dynamic lighting shining through cockpit walls

- rain that looks like a star trek warp jump

- ground service vehicles running through each other and through the user aircraft

and I'll add road traffic disappearing.

Just to temper expectations. I have seen at least one of the above in Microsoft Flight Simulator promo videos. For some time I enjoyed making FSX and Prepar3D performance videos for my YouTube channel and during the editing process I always paid a lot of the attention to removing all instances of the above within reason. The videos always looked more immersive than the game play as a direct result of the absence of the above. If I did it, I am sure Asobo are doing it with their promo videos. I'd be surprised if Microsoft Flight Simulator on release does not have some jarring immersion killing idiosyncrasy's like the ones listed above. Hopefully the list will be shorter than with other sims.

Sorry fellas, but I have P3DV4.5 with Environment Force, Sky Force, UTX Caribbean, FlyTampa St. Maarten, A2A Cherokee, JustFlight 152 and Arrow III, running at 30-50 FPS on fantastic settings. It looks absolutely gorgeous for VFR flights, works wonderfully for IFR with the GTN750. I have my iPad Mini connected for running the 750 on a separate touchscreen. It's click and go - no fuss, no delays, no snags. I sit down and 90 seconds later I'm flying around the Caribbean in weather synched to real-world. The scenery is absolutely stunning.

If MSFS can beat this out of the box on my system (8700K with no OC/1080) I'll eat my hat. Anyone who thinks MSFS is going to blow the world away on today's hardware and without a zillion MBPS internet connection is friggin' dreaming.

They already said that about 10 Mbit/s is enough for the highest quality.

When the time comes, what would you like to drink with that?

MFS doesn't dictate terms ... they can not and will not be able to penetrate this market without 1000+ add-on developer support, not a chance ... they need us more than we need them (we have alternatives) and I'm sure that irks them to no end.

This post reminds me of the guy who goes to a football game and imagines that the players in the huddle are jealously talking about HIM.

You obviously have been watching all the videos released through LM colored glasses. MSFS already 'beats it out of the box' now and its in Alpha only. And it doesn't need a bunch of overly expensive and often overrated add-ons to do it.

NDA circle is not one of "privilege", I can assure you of that .. it's a lot of work for those that take it seriously and want the best the platform can be ... do you think it's comfortable sitting here and watching all this drama, all the false information and misguidance and doomsayers?  .

Not at all do I think this and I don't see how this can be read off of my lines. Serious testing is hard work no doubt. This applies even to the couple of mini projects I am involved in as a tester.

Nonetheless gives it access to privileged information which mere mortals don't have. Even more if we talk about major projects like MSFS or P3D. Which naturally may result in quite different conclusions on the prospect of software depending on if you are "in" or "out" of the circle. I still would prefer a clear statement by LM on the future of Prepar3d towards previous loyal users.
