Colombian company creates bed that can double as coffin

That cardboard bed is ingenious, darkly humorous and practical all at the same time.

Am I the only one thinking about the Dancing Pallbearers (the ones in the Coffin Dance memes)?

Not if we plant more forests rather than building housing estates which maximise profit over 1st time buyer affordability or cheap dwellings for the homeless.

Yes, we are all going to shuffle off our mortal coil eventually, even if CO2 is reigned in.

But we digress..

Talk about "one-stop shopping"!!

The logical conclusion...the Pandemic hospital of the future: a hundred of these cardboard bed-coffins lined up on a slow-moving conveyor with a crematorium at the end.  If you survive, they pull you off the line.  And if you take too long to get better...well...

As  bad taste goes, that takes some beating.

Where are the administrators?

No, wait ... you ARE an administrator.

Dave.

Does anyone remember the movie Soylent Green?

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Soylent Green, The Omega Man, and Planet of the Apes.

It's really tough to do a proper apocalypse without Charlton Heston...

I guess we won't have anymore since he died in 2003.

Here's today's (highly) recommended reading - a new article by Dr. Atul Gawande, a surgeon and New Yorker staff writer, on the steps workplaces should take in order to reopen safely.  He draws his lessons from the hospital industry - the one workplace that has actually had to function in a high-risk environment.  The piece is a bit long but extremely clear and well-written.  Lots to think about.

Soylent Green is people.

Lately I'm thinking more of 1984.

One thing that bothers me about all this corona virus data is the lack of local recovery numbers.

Roswell added 1 more virus case yesterday bringing our total to 28 recorded cases.  But that person was already dead which brings our death count to 2.  So that would bring the possible active cases down to 26.  1 woman we know recovered because there was and article printed about her.  So now we're down to 25 if nobody else has recovered.  I'm wondering if they are deliberately withholding that information to make things look worse than they are.  How many active cases are there in Roswell?    Or in any other local area?  How many are still hospitalized?

As of yesterday New Mexico had 5212 cases and 1434 recoveries.  That's 27% recovered for the state.  That's the only data I have to calculate Roswell's active cases.  73% of 25 is 18 people are still active cases and 8 people have recovered.  Of course that's not an accurate number because I am applying a state-wide calculation to a local area.

I think 1984 is on everyone's mind Dave.  One thing governments are reluctant to give up is control once they have it.

Combine that with all the tracking and snooping technology available today big brother cold turn into big daddy.

I'd have a lot more to say about this but it would get political.
