COVID-19 advice

Recommended Posts

Can someone politely explain to me why some Sars-Cov-2 (that's the name of the virus, not COVID-19, that's the illness it causes) posts are allowed on AVSIM and others are not? I would prefer to ban them all as they inevitably will contain contradicting information from conflicting sources thus having the potential to become political. You may argue that I don't have to read them but they will show up in the new topics list. I would like to see a few places on the Internet staying free of Corona (unless it's the beer).

Totally agree. This place should be exclusively dedicated to flightsimming, as for sure there are other places where everybody can talk exclusively about health (and the virus).

Hey, if you use a bandana over and over, make sure you know which side was facing the outside!

Or first inhale, take the bandana off, turn it inside out, put the bandana back on and then exhale. Rinse and repeat. Note, my attorney advised me to add a disclaimer that this is sarcasm.

That's perfectly fine and understandable that the topic concerns so many people. I would only appreciate if then also some of the better news can be shared and that the discussions respect different views as long as no one is intentionally offending someone else. Might that be a basis for the community?

Just like an N95 face mask, if nothing else is available, a bandana or scarf will keep you from inadvertently touching you nose or month while out and about among other people.  This virus' goal is to attach itself to the respiratory cells in your lungs, merge with them, and eventually overwhelm your ability to breathe.

Another consideration:  Assume EVERYONE is infected, including YOURSELF, even when there are no apparent symptoms, and act accordingly.  YES, a deep fear of this little critter is quite necessary for all of us.  But, as its been shown in the last month,  there are mortal fools out there who are quite blase about the whole sit-u-a-tion.

Because it is going to ravage the airline industry and cause hundreds of thousands of job losses, even more than 9/11.  Myself included.

We still have much to learn about this virus. They are even saying now that simply breathing can emit the virus.

Maybe we could do some tests In a safe secure lab. Ahh wait a second.

Apologies if you got me wrong here. Millions of jobs will be lost in all industries, might also well be mine. My question was whether the general issues around the virus, i.e. what we know, what we don't know, what makes sense and what might not make sense to combat it, should be a topic in this forum. There are certainly arguments pro and con. The airline related consequences fit well in here IMHO, the other not so much. Again, I asked because the other day another related post (not started by me but fully ok in my view) was deleted without any explanation. I am fine if the majority likes to continue discussing all aspects of the crisis here and it is certainly not me who would want to or be in a position to decide otherwise. I hope to be able to travel by plane soon again and I certainly will hop on the first flight I can get in order to see my mother again. Stay safe.

We have been having a long running (currently 49 pages) discussion under the topic Do we cancel everything? You still travelling?   It is notable for the way it has largely avoided politics and for the wide range of well informed contributions from posters, a number of whom have specialist knowledge. It has never needed moderator intervention and has provided useful information. It would have been a shame if this had not been allowed.

Trinity Colledge Dublin are reminding us of the important role Vit D plays for the immune system and how many of us in cloudier parts of the world are deficient.

Research from Trinity College Dublin has found that Vitamin D could be beneficial to older adults who are 'cocooning' during the current coronavirus pandemic.

I have been on a prescription of Vitamin D capsules (one per week) since breaking my hip six weeks ago.

It's presently ravaging far more industries than just the airline industry, and I dare say the worldwide job losses will be greater than hundreds of thousands, or they have been already.

Got toilet paper ???

There's none at my local supermarket and hasn't been for weeks, no paper products at all (tissues, nappies, hand towels etc.)

Meat ran out, there was no bread, noodles, rice, pasta, spagetti sauce many many shelves completely empty and are still that way weeks later.

Local pharmacy had to ration medicines and there is no hand sanitiser or face masks left anywhere local.

Alothough went shopping today and some bread was back on the shelves.

Cheers

This reminds me of the old communist era joke about lines in the then USSR...

"Pardon me, but is this the no-bread line?"

"No young lady. this is the no-toilet paper line, the no-bread line is over there!"

I think the increased consumption of baked beans probably lies behind the high demand for toilet paper.

Actually, the most logical reason advanced for the run on toilet paper is simply that so many who used their employer's TP at work suddenly found themselves confined to their own facilities at home, doubling or maybe even tripling their home usage!

EDIT: Let's not forget the kids who're not using their school's facilities either!...

Simply because such a 'forbidden topic' would be impossible to enforce.

I am not aware of the post(s) to which you refer, I have to assume that a moderator made a decision that allowing those posts to remain in view would lead to a bar room fight. It is extremely difficult to be a volunteer moderator; we're regularly damned if we do or damned if we don't... <sigh>
