I wonder if Microsoft has any plans to implement a gateway scenery system like Xplane does so the community can volunteer and contribute to building and perfecting all the other airports and landmarks around the world for free to be included in the default sim.

Most probably they won’t since that would defeat the purpose of their tiered product offerings but I would certainly by interested in such a program if it allowed for at least improving world landmarks and POI’s which aren’t handcrafted.

It'll already be fine if they allow freeware development. Like that I could just download the scenery I'd like to fly to. Scenery gateway was a huge leap forward for XP (compared to the 2D airports), but they actually do not look very good (understandably).

Side note:

Gateway airports cover a little over 10k airports. Whereas MS has modeled 37k+ via satelitte images. Only real disadvantage: Wrong taxiway markings.

For the first time, Microsoft Flight Simulator will include a built-in Marketplace which enables approved partners to sell their content directly to simmers.

For me this is the best news of this update.

If you change your computer, just one click to reinstall everything. No more keys, weird online activation, spyware, etc...

Good shout or VR maybe?

I'm hoping it will be the Premium Deluxe Splendid Hibernating Bear Expansion Pack. The key feature is a procedurally generated Yogi Bear asleep at a random picnic table at a field strip. Smarter than your average expansion pack for sure.

You should have been on the design team from the start.

I wonder what the uptake will be in the marketplace. Will MS charge a fee for developers to use it?  I would love to see all addons there just for simplicity.

anyone else expecting a serious amount of Beta invites to go out to really stress test the sim prior to launch?

Would be interesting to find out. Due to the way things like this were heavily opposed to in the past, if I was to impose a fee for the store, I'd make it minuscule. Something like a credit card fee, 1-5%. Then again, I'm not in charge of the marketplace, and it doesn't matter anyway because like it said in the news statement, it's not mandatory, but the fact it'll more than likely be accessible on the console version of the sim could make it very enticing even to "higher tier" developers.

Would be cool if the marketplace could also host regulated freeware! We'll see what happens.

I did not hear anything about localized versions in other languages than english. There will be many customers whose english is not good enough to use this simulation. Does anybody know more?

From MSFS twitter:

"We have not yet announced which languages will be supported. Stay tuned!

I'm still expecting a location somewhere in the middle of nowhere, with an airfiled with an extremely undulated runway in midsdt of redwood trees and monster grass.

MS have stated it will be an Agency Agreement between them and Devs for items sold on Market Place - so yes, I expect they'll take a commission as a percentage of the cost of the particular addon. Anywhere between 5% - 30% is usual Agency range.

It will almost certainly be mandatory for the console version.
