When your are talking about flight modeling alone: MSFS has 1,000 areodynamic points of surface reference to P3D only having 1...!!!

As impressive as that sounds, I don't think it's going to matter in practice.  I wish they'd gone with the Microsoft Flight flight model instead.

I hate to say it but since the msfs 2020 release date has been announced, I did lose interest in starting up P3D to fly. I’m not saying I’m giving up on P3D as msfs 2020 may not be what I expect, but for the time being I really don’t have an interest in flying in P3D at the moment.   Having said that and getting back to the topic at hand, I’m not really sure what p3d can do if anything in the next month via updates to shift the interest that’s been peaked with the msfs release announcement.

 Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.

! love my Orbyx and P3D 4.5 with all sliders to the right on my mid range PC - I love my very large Hangar of old and modern aircraft.

  - but no matter how good they are - I am really restricted to the tiny part of our Earth that Orbyx covers - because flying the rest of  the world

is very repetitive and boring with the default  scenery - despite Orbyx global and vector- especially in VFR

I will remove Orbyx from my P3D4.5 and see what some brilliant freeware scenery can do - for my aged aircraft - and I will invest the same Dollar

amount for a new install P3D V5 - as for the Std. MSFX - and reload all my Orbyx and what aircraft in my hangar V5 will port across -  and continue

my local flights over Orbyx TE - OLC -  and regions.

On August 18th - I will use my free Standard version of MSFX - via my Gold Pass (PC and X box) - on my mid range PC - and go for the full MSFX when it is released

for the new - Super X Box Series in November

I will look forward to enjoying low local and High continental flights over the new World scenery - especially in my home area of SE Asia and Oceana

1,000 point of reference in MSFS, compared to the P3D 1 point, of aerodynamic surface modeling is going to make flying better than ever!

how come they cannot model a helicopter so far?

It's out on Steam.

X marks the spot.( don't be a pirate..)

Rather wait for MSFS AUG. not free,.

Remember... MSFS flights matter.

I for one will be staying with P3Dv5 I have not had one problem with it since day 1

smooth as silk with nearly all my sliders maxed

the only addons that I have is ORBX scenery and nearly all my own addon aircraft

the only thing I did was remove all the aircraft that came with the sim also rotorcraft watercraft  submercibles

I have no problems with prepar3d v5 smooth as silk.I want msfs 2020 but i would only use it for fun until pmdg is coming with thier

737 ng3, prepar3d is still very good, in 1 year its over with prepar3d i think.

I might not uninstall P3D from my system immediately when MSFS is released, but I for sure will unpin about (7 icons) from my task bar 😁

Doesn't matter. There are addons in P3D that surpass default modelling in MSFS by a long shot. Default sure, might be true. But I am talking addons here.

No amount of P3D addons could ever bring the terrain detail that MSFS has by default.

No it can't. That is one thing that MSFS has way over P3D. MSFS graphics are way more advanced. But sim is not graphics only.

Also, MSFS will have real time AI traffic that is streamed live which no P3D add-on has at this time!

It is yet to be seen how this pans out in the sim. But, if you are about flying on VATSIM, to have a real person on the other side, then this is irrelevant. Maybe it's possible to integrate, but honestly, having the amount of aircraft in the sim, as there are in the real world (or even only half), there is no amount of hardware, not now, not in years to come, that will be able to run it.

Plus how many airport addons would it take to match every single airport in MSFS that look amazing stock?

Again, graphics. But, normally, one flies from A->B, usually having more detailed airports in the sim. And no stock airport will ever look as good as an addon airport.

If you are talking mass-users, which MSFS really needs to stay alive, then the sim is absolutely on the right path. It needs to offer a good package out of the box. It needs to be graphically pleasing and appealing to attract masses. It needs to offer some basic stuff, in a simplified way. But, to attract simmers, you definitely need addons. Lots of addons. We are talking utilities like Chaseplane, FSUIPC, GSX, VATSIM integration, you need detailed airports, detailed aircraft, basically study sim stuff. AND it has to perform well with all that. So, for a simmer, MSFS is competing really hard vs P3D, which currently performs exceptionally well.

Just yesterday I flew couple of times from Vienna to Innsbruck, interchanging between P3D+Addons (FSL, airports, ORBX) and MSFS latest alpha. When it comes to observing the scenery, weather, even visual modelling (external model), MSFS, all the way. Even default aircraft, flight planning, it's way more advanced than FSX or stock P3D ever was. But, in P3D, quality addons, study level stuff - I think it's safe to say MSFS won't be covering that by default. Who flies FSX/P3D stock nowdays anyway??

Having said that, my purchases for P3D have stopped, until we all see the final version, especially the first couple of months. We don't know how fast 3PD will bring their content out.

Thank you for sharing that with us. The community is a lot wiser now.

Much appreciated.

Don't forget that for enjoying MSFS you will need a reasonable fast internet connection. I'm afraid that will be a show stopper for a lot of people.

That remains to be seen. And reasonable fast is a very broad term.

I wonder how long it will take to download the 150GB needed. & if there is a glitch in the data stream near the end, will the whole lot need to redownloaded?

I guess that will depend on your internet connection. Maybe not in the beginning when mass downloads begin, but in time. If you didn't notice, Asobo was inviting alpha testers for months now (every now and then, they mentioned it on the update). I think it's understandable why.
