I for one love P3Dv5 despite the few bugs because I am lucky enough to have a good computer which allows me to get the best P3D can give. And I don't believe P3D will be left away by any serious simmer when the "impending new sim" will debut. It will be kind of "Wow" at the beginning but most of us will keep P3D for at least a year as our main flying platform, until third-party devs release compatible addons and MS release a few "patches". P3D is alive for a good moment IMO. I think P3D and Xplane will do just fine with the arrival of the new MSFS. People have too much invested just to walk away. Like always, the transition between sims is a long process. I for one run will three sims. I would hate to abandon one, because I'd feel I was missing out. Guess I'm one of them FOMO's. David, sad to hear BA are retiring their entire 747 fleet ahead of schedule...... tear in the eye, perhaps? July 17, 20205 yr I will stay in P3DV5 and XPlane for sure and I doubt even I will give a try with xbox gamepass pc for MSFS just because I have a lot of followers that will ask me to, but seriously, I'm loving all time my p3dv5 build and it's the only sim that I need, waiting for xp11.5 and xenviro. I must say that I'm this kind of guys that didn't like so much FSX and get back to FS2004! Not excited about new sim for now
July 17, 20205 yr I have a few thousand dollars of Precision Flight Control and Jetmax hardware that is not listed as being compatible with MSFS. No way I'm getting rid of all that so staying with P3D. No TrackIR in MSFS either. I'm just waiting on 5.1 to upgrade from 4.5. Eric

July 17, 20205 yr I'm about to uninstall P3D. Keep in mind I also use XP11. There is no reason to believe this will suddenly come to a halt just because a new entertainment software that caters to a different market is released. The corporate, military e & training market will continue to support it, as the new MSFS is not licensed as a training tool, it has an entertainment license only. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... July 17, 20205 yr As someone who has been switching sims and versions since Flight Simulator for the Commodore 64, I switched to P3Dv4 from FSX because running out of memory was ruining my FS experience. P3Dv4 solved that problem. I've also been Alpha/Beta testing the impending new sim and will definitely get it once I can recreate the same experience I'm getting with P3Dv4. The same applies with P3Dv5. dv Win 10 Pro || i7-8700K || 32GB || ASUS Z370-P MB || NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11Gb || 2 960 PRO 1TB, 840 EVO My Files in the AVSIM Library

July 17, 20205 yr If the real-time weather, clouds, Flight Model, ATC, and real world traffic is as good as it's been previewed I might not ever buy and install V5. You can only put lipstick on a pig or so long and the 1,000 point of reference in MSFS, compared to the P3D 1 point, of aerodynamic surface modeling is going to make flying better than ever! Not to mention the terrain which still looks horrible and dated in P3D even with ORBX LC and Vector installed. The terrain is basically the same everywhere you fly just mixed around slightly based on location. Chris Camp

When your are talking about flight modeling alone: MSFS has 1,000 areodynamic points of surface reference to P3D only having 1...!!! No amount of P3D addons could ever bring the terrain detail that MSFS has by default. Also, MSFS will have real time AI traffic that is streamed live which no P3D add-on has at this time! Plus how many airport addons would it take to match every single airport in MSFS that look amazing stock? Chris Camp

The "impending" new sim will debut in a month and many simmers are pretty excited about it. I, for one, am slowing down all P3d addon purchases now...and still trying to find the right combination of settings and tweaks to make V5 run without crashing, excessive stuttering (at some point in the flight), or excessive pauses (at some point in the flight). What would be welcome from P3d would be another update or hotfix that addresses these performance concerns so that we can have 2 active sims on our systems. I read about others who are threatening to delete P3d after the other sim arrives, and other such extremes. There is so much to love about P3d, but V5 has taxed me somewhat into frustration....not every day....but most days. I would love to have a stable flight sim that STAYS flyable for flight after flight in a continuous series without having to restart the sim for the second leg of a flight. Just my opinion...but I was curious. In the next couple of weeks, I would love to see some little remedies to V5's problems that I (and I'm not alone) encounter every day. Stan Sorry to hear you’re having problems with P3Dv5. Since HF2 came out I have not had any CTD other than a 3rd party software issue. But overall very happy with performance compared to other versions. Particularly in VR I have much better smoothness. Example: I can now fly around ORBX Southern California with much more eyecandy set than in previous versions. With the same hardware and P3Dv4.1 it was a stuttering mess.
