How Long Are You Thinking Of Delaying Your Purchase?

It will be at least 15 to 17 months for me. I have a history of never buying anything on launch and prefer to give it time to bed down. I think of it as a cake, Aug 18 is when it gets chucked in the oven for a very long bake and I hopefully will time it reasonably right and snag it when many little niggles are ironed out!

I am more than happy to tootle about in my XP11 in the meantime which will remain my primary sim even after MSFS is installed.

I’ve been in the alpha/beta for a few weeks, and have seen both good and bad, but certainly nothing that would prevent me from wanting to install the release version (that I have already purchased) the moment it becomes available on Tuesday.

I have no intention of uninstalling P3DV5 anytime soon however. MSFS is ground breaking in many, many ways, but I do not want to do without the PMDG 747 / 737, or Maddog MD-80, or FSL A320. Until the time comes that at least some of those titles will run natively in MSFS, I will be keeping the platform that does currently support them.

What we are testing may not correspond with what is in the release version.  I want to see how people react after release.  But I made that decision long before I got in the Alpha, and it's my normal mode of operation.

I can't imagine going back to P3D, even to fly some particularly beloved aircraft, but I did it with Microsoft Flight and FSX a while back.  I am almost certain to buy MSFS at some point.

DX12 will improve performance as the sim will be able to directly call the GPU.

I am not home at the moment. Stuck in the Caribbean waiting to move back to Cali. In the meantime I will try it out with Game Pass on a laptop.🤪 I am not expecting much but better than nothing.

I will NOT purchase the Super Sexy Deluxe Premium version until I am home and I build my new rig sometime next year. It will actually work out well as the new Nvidia cards and maybe new CPU's will be available by that time.

As far as I know, no.  I don't know how the transition to the next test group will work (I assume there will be one), and I don't know if it might require a purchase.

But I'm not flying all that much.  I've seen most of what I wanted to see at this point, not much to test and a little late to report bugs.

I was already suffering from flight sim burnout when I got in the Alpha, but I did quite a bit of flying anyway, more so when we got TrackIR.  I should probably spend less time on forums and more in the sim. 🙂

No. The current beta will turn into a pumpkin and cease functioning sometime on Monday according to MS. I plan to uninstall it at that point, as it will just be taking up space in my SSD.

The old sims are a mess, they wont run as well as MSFS with 2025 tech. Your 2080 would probably run the sim quite well from the sounds of it. David Mills made a great post yesterday talking about how the sim runs.

Internet via Nextlink.  Unlimited bandwidth, currently I'm paying for the 35 MBps package, typically getting 33.  I could go up to 50 for not much more, but haven't seen a need for it yet.  I could get 100 if I didn't love my money so much. 😄 

For maximum use with MSFS, I'd suggest 32 GB RAM.  It is possible to overrun 16, especially with other things running on your computer, like skyvector.com in a browser and all the junk Windows likes to run.  I don't think I've gone much over 80% total RAM usage though, about 11 gig used by MSFS.  I've seen some evidence that suggests that MSFS monitors your free RAM and adjusts things accordingly, but this is unconfirmed.

The two times I did get an OOM (one reasonable, one under impossible conditions) I'm all but certain it was because of a 600+ meg program that was running that shouldn't have been, as reported by Event Viewer.  I had to delete it to keep it from unwanted activation.  Dell Support Assistant.  It was probably trying to test my RAM at the time. 😄 Now days I run Task Manager in the background to keep track.
