How Long Are You Thinking Of Delaying Your Purchase?

Featured Replies

Im a heavy airline simmer, so the GA stuff won’t be enough for me.

1. will wait until default airlines are stable enough with autopilot , flight model etc

2. will wait for pmdg or qw787 etc

3. Will wait to see how offline mode and cache works

4. liveries licensing issue needs to resolved

5. replays, gsx, and few other addons needed for airline ops.

7. will need to see effect of dx12 on this.

so it’s gonna be a while. Maybe I’ll ride out this year with the other two sims.

Why delay at all?

It's worth getting 30days (of MSFS Standard Edition) for $1 using XBox Game Pass for PC.

If you don't like, cancel your sub before renewal (when it goes up to $5 per month).

It's something that happens during the install process.

Thanks. One less delay to getting started after installation then.👍

Slightly off-topic, but I've seen testers mention settings being recommended and wondered how the sim does that. Does it immediately make a suggestion after it loads for the first time (having obviously checked the hardware installed)?

I haven't seen the release version. But in most of the alpha/beta versions (if you did a fresh install), the sim would recommend settings for you before the sim ever started and it would automatically make those settings for you. On my system, it always recommended Medium settings. I immediately changed them to High, however, and the sim nonetheless worked very well. Personally, I think the "Recommended Specifications" that Asobo released a few months ago are very conservative, in contrast to many other game-spec recommendations which are overly optimistic. Here is a good rule of thumb: If you're currently getting any kind of decent performance from P3D or X-Plane, you're all set to enjoy MSFS2020 without worrying about performance. Your performance will improve with the newly-written code.

yes i agree.. i know with my specs i can run MSFS comfortably, especially on medium settings, 1080p, etc..

I still wish the YT streamers w'd first optimize their settings before trying something ambitious like flying into JFK or LHR on 4K with everything on ultra.. the first few videos i see like that stuttering at 16 fps, it sends a bad message. I know the sim cannot be that sluggish..

If it performs decently on my current GTX 1070, then it makes sense to upgrade to RTX 2080 to get that extra bit of juice..

I am curious why someone bored with FS would be on an FS forum. Hmmmm?

Just because I am bored of flight simulation at the moment does not automatically mean that I have no interest in what is going on in the flightsim community. Come on, let's not start going down that road. You know better than that.

alpha/ beta tester.

Will wait a few months I believe and purchase on Steam. MS Store has always been an underwhelming experience for me.

Beta access will be dropped on the 18th. Will I miss it? Yes, for scenic trips and admiring the world, but for simulate flying a plane I will stick to the addons we have in P3Dv5 until enough of them are available in FS2020.

EASA PPL SEPL + NQ / CB-IR in progress
MSFS24 | X-Plane 12

The Beta access is the last full day today ends tomorrow.

Third party addon airliners not this year from what i have read still working on the SDK.

Specifically, the reasons to wait for me are:

1. As already mentioned, hardware. I'll be carefully checking to see what kind of performance folks are getting with the kind of hardware I'm planning to buy and the kinds of settings I like to use.
2. Looking how MS handles updates and bug fixes.
3. Are updates and bug fixes easy to install via Steam - any hiccups?
4. Development of addons: what's the release pace?
5. General look and feel: does MSFS 2020 live up to the hype?

Running a I7 4790K @ 4,8 with a GTX980ti on WQHD. And to be honest I am not impressed with FS 2020. From what i have seen on videos the planes fly themselves: its a console clone which is very badly optimized. Be ready for an amazing load of "bad performance" posts after release. I am not going to spend 3000 - 4000 euro on the best hardware to run at 40-50 frames. So I will wait at least for a full year.

I am sure that MSFS will not be the best thing since sliced bread on release - but it certainly has the potential 🙂 I have been flying simulators since Fighter Pilot on the Spectrum and I cannot remember any time that a new simulator has felt that much "next gen" as MSFS does.

In the 80:ies and 90:ies, flight simulators where among the most popular games and often topped the covers of the gaming magazines. I have sighed and dreamed that those days would return as the gaming budgets are so much bigger now. When some AAA studio does an aircraft in a shooter like Battlefield V, we have seen that you can do a pretty cool looking Norwegian fjord with Messerschmitts skimming the ocean, looking like the CGI from a movie... What if we would get a AAA simulator some day from a major company that puts hundreds of developers to work on writing a modern simulator engine with all the latest and coolest technology? We ARE getting that simulator engine next week, and even though it will be a bit rough in the edges I am extremely willing to pay $119 as a thank you to Microsoft for even thinking about doing this project.

So - I delayed my pre-purchase of the Premium Deluxe edition at Steam for about 10 minutes after it was possible to buy 🙂
