Start up experience

Featured Replies

Now that I've got things working (mostly), I still wonder about the start up of the sim.

Do you have the same experience?

1. 30 secs of "nothing".. no reaction to indicate that I was successful in starting the program

2. 10 secs of black screen with grey surround

3. Flashy corporate logos

4. Pretty picture with "PRESS ANY KEY"

5. Pretty picture with blue bar

6. Grey surround with "WELCOME, SET YOUR EXPERIENCE"

7. New pretty picture with blue bar.. which takes a long time..

8. Sim welcome screen

Bizarre sequence IMHO.. Am I the only one?

LMAO!

I think the same word not allowed thing every time it loads...

This used to have a large grey box with "Checking for Updates" but I haven't seen it in a while.

Yeah, I think we're all getting the same thing.  Seems like it takes about 6 or 7 minutes to get to that point.

Y'know, it might be nice if we had a splash screen, maybe with a progress indicator, within a couple seconds of clicking on the icon.  I'll try to avoid sarcastic suggestions for this screen. 😄

Yup, I get all that but not always the set you experience and checking screens. It's not the fastest start up ever, but it's still not as bad as the admittedly pretty, but lengthy 'voyage through space' bit at the start of No Man's Sky which has you suspecting the thing has locked up before it actually gets to the page where you can load up your saved game. And it's still a faster load up than P3D V5 on my computer at least.

I think it somewhat betrays the GUI's console ambitions, as indeed does the menu structure, but on the whole I can live with it.

I'd be okay with the startup if they just get rid of the word not allowed press any key step!

Same here,

Same here. The most ridiculous thing is the 'press any key. Although the 30 seconds of nothing are pretty poor programming.

Yeah, sometimes I start the sim and walk away thinking I'll come back and find it ready, forgetting that daft step 😝

I hate apps that start like this. I've had to check in lasso to make sure something is actually running, and this is no exception.

I hope they can streamline start-up, and certainly get rid of the Press Any Key nonsense. At least from menu to flight loading is fast, and makes up for it somewhat.

It still faster than XP11 was for me, and P3D with Orbx TE.

Same here ... The start-up sequence is a pain. When it comes to "press any key" I experience sometimes a very delayed reaction until the next window apperars. I don't see any sense to press another key at all ... when I started the sim, I knew what I was doing.
