New Aircraft M20R Released

Well maybe sorry to say but I have had a great couple of flights in it so far around O28 and then up to KFOT and despite the rough edges with trim I LIKE IT.  But the avionics did not flake out on me and I did not have the AP set correctly to use GPS so didn't experience the drunken 20-degree swaying.  But I do like how effective the spoiler/speedbrakes are and how they pop up out of the wing the same way they did on the RealAir Lancair.  It's a sin to mention the two planes in the same breath I know but this is a nice little speedy hotrod along that same sense, at least for now.  And my taste is biased since I have always had a love affair with how Mooneys look. So it will most certainly do.

I am a Steam user but no joy on finding the aircraft.cfg file - it certainly isn't in F:\AppData\{username}\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Official\Steam\carenado-aircraft-m20r-ovation\SimObjects\Airplanes\Carenado_M20R_Ovation as expected, although most of the rest of the expected files are there.

We share the experience you profiled 100%.  Where this Ovation may not be perfect in all respects, I had a better first flight experience than in any default models.  Just wish for an RXP GNS 530 and corresponding NAV data.  Badly needed!  Badly!

I missed it.  I could not reliably determine how to set a desired altitude and capture it.  Did so once but I tried three or four methods and have not a clue why that one attempt was successful.  Should have taken notes or recorded my own video.  Have not used that type of AP/ALT combo in years.  Not a gripe.  I enjoy the instrument configuration of this offering.

Set the AP to FD and the altitude preselector to the desired altitude.

Then press the ARM button on the preselector.

When you activate the AP, it should climb to the selected altitude.

I also agree with the review, and would add that as long as you are OK with flying the AP in HDG mode (instead of NAV), Otto will get you there.  Of course hand flying works every time  🙂

Google the Bendix King KFC-150 flight director guide (pdf) and part of the guide is a good two page ALT SEL how to. The key is whether you see FT or fpm in the window and check up vs down often.  This is a very high end system if Asobo or Carenado codes it correctly.  It is a big step up on the KSC-150 AP system.

That is in the aircraft.cfg file for the default airplanes.

For the addon airplanes, this file is not accessible as best I can tell..

What?!  We can't access the CFGs?

That might be a showstopper for me

I'm serious.  We all know these Carenado birds need mods!

Ryan, I am betting on the Github bunch to find a path to the files for mods.  Otherwise we let it be known we will not be buying any addons that we can't mod ourselves.

And all I wanted to do was edit the tail number! LOL!

The panel.cfg IS in place, so avionics mods should be available if we can just get the avionics we have been spoiled with!

OK, I take off from L35 for another test

Look at EGT and GPH 5.0. Full power at 2500 rpm

unknown.png?width=2307&height=1298

Continue leaning to EGT peak, now GPH 7.3

unknown.png?width=2307&height=1298

Now roughly 50F lean of peak, and GPH 7.9

unknown.png?width=2307&height=1298

Basically it has reversed  logic also GPH are very low

It certainly doesn't help if devs aren't following identical conventions to the base install. Like you say, who's (ir)responsible?

It's just about revenue streams....

Guys, lets stop the Carenado bashing.. that is not what this is about.

wha?...I think it's pretty clear that I'm the one defending their business model in this thread, from those who are bashing them because they can't seem to accept it.

Then you complained about their marketing and how you expected a pilot tested and approved product.

The only negativity out of me in this thread toward Carenado was when I agreed with your bash about their marketing.
