New Aircraft M20R Released

I like it so far...but am landing too fast despite full flaps and end up bouncing...I do this in my XP11 version so quite possibly pilot error.

And can confirm the drunk autopilot NAV.

Just finished my first flight in it as well.  Also bounced pretty good on landing. That after floating a bit and seeing the runway diminishing in front of me. Had throttle closed.

The drunk AP appears to be due to MFS 10° tuning increment for HDG and CRS.  Looking at the DTK on the GNS, the 10° increment just cannot match.  Is there a mod yet for that tuning increment after the recent update?

Other than those characteristics I had a nice flight.  Need more time to figure out the climb and descent to capture an altitude.  Appeared to work once and I honestly don't know what I did different.  Locked in manually the other times I changed altitude.  I also now need to learn how to save cockpit camera views.  Not much is set up with this model out of the box.

Autopilot NAV with VOR and GPS just PERFECT! To avoid Autopilot NAV 'zig-zag" flying you should have GPS DTK=CRS=HDG.

Did not work for me. Still zig zag.  Is it due to the 10° HDG and CRS tuning increments.  Cannot center on 230° when you can only tune  226° or 236°.

So I haven't read the entire thread but the consensus is that this is worse than their P3D / XP11 rendition?

The Carenado model is pretty much the same as the FSX/P3D adapted to MFS.  That basic plane had the Carenado GNS530 and we all used either Reality XP or F1 GTNs. This one has the Asobo generic GNS530 which is of lower quality than the Carenado base 530. (-1)

No 2d panels allowed here so the popups that was used in the XP version now has the tablet stuck to the yoke with a click spot and works quite well.  Another click puts it away. Some very nice airport services animations.  Doors and and pilot window work, visors move.  Sound increases or decreases when small pilot window is open or closed.

2nd Page of the popup tablet offers Cold and Dark, ready to taxi, and ready to takeoff.  This work well.

Gear retraction has some nice thumps and bumps with good sound effects.  You can hear the flaps operating.

The Mooney has very effective spoilers in the wings for slowing it down.  Good engine sounds.

Today's problems are mostly related to the Asobo piece of junk GNS 530 and not having a Reality XP or GTN 750 to fall back on.  Asobo has multiple problems with this default 530.  It jumps only in 10 deg increments so it flies a zig zag if you choose something not dead on.  LPV approaches are a joke as coded, and  . . .

To top it off, the avionics stack just goes dead (black, blank) for no obvious reason and doesn't come back when flipping the avionics master switch.  Reboot is hit or miss that it will be on for a short period before dying.

The annunciator panel does not work. A few things are lit but it is not working.  Gear down in the air should be a green "gear down" but is dark.  This might be related to the Asobo electric bug.

I probably missed something, but, assuming both Carenado and Asobo get working on the problems we should have a better model early next week.  It looks great, only 4 liveries, but you can add your personal ID, but you can't save them (yet). The cfg file is hidden from us (for now).

The Mooney has some great avionics and digital/analog flight gauges, round gauges, and is has a nice Bendix/King Flight Director system, but, I have no idea what Asobo will do with it.  We should keep the heat on for better quality stuff that we are paying extra for and maybe CNN or ESPN will pick up on it and make the national news and someone at Microsoft will see it and ask offensive initials not allowed.

I say buy it with the known problems with the assumption they will be fixed.  The basic Mooney is the same one as the other two sims just adapted to this one.  Heck one day Flight1 will show up with their GTN and Reality XP will also jump on the train.

I have a ton of real Mooney time when I worked with Roy LoPresti when he was President of Mooney.  It looks, feels and sounds like a Mooney, it might fly like a Mooney one day soon.

Hi all.
Long time lurker here. Always been fascinated with sims, bought most of them over the years but  never really took them serious. Yip I was that guy that put most of the settings to "arcade mode". After many years mucking about I have finally decided it is time to learn to fly "properly", as much as that is possible within MSFS 2020. I have zero interest for now in flying airliners and plan on sticking to GA craft, with my plan being the C152->C172 and now this beautiful looking M20R. Yes I know all about Carenado's rep in previous sims, but after watching this inflight review of the plane, it was enough to convince me on my first MSFS addon purchase. I know it's no A2A study model, but for someone like me aka-noob, it looks about perfect to get me started. Perhaps people like me are the target market and I am posting this just to let you guys know that surely this is no bad thing? More users, bigger market, win win all round.
Anyway here is the vid that convinced me to buy 🙂

Give the Devs a little time to sort of the problems and finish the coding that should have been done already and it should be a great airplane for both you and me.  I have a pocket full of certificates and ratings and many hundreds of hours Mooney time and I am recommending this as a good plane, once these initial growing pains are corrected.  Meanwhile it is tough to shoot an approach with a dead avionics stack.

This is evidently a user level issue and reported with default aircraft models as well.  I flew a 1.8 hour flight today after buying this aircraft and had no avionics outages.

Yep, you got hit, I got the miss. Enjoy.

aircraft.cfg not found.  I think it is the actually aircraft.cfg file and there is not one here.  Asobo might have it locked up someplace.

Here is the path for a steam installation.

Hmmm, hopefully someone running the sim on steam can help you there, but...

Did you look in a) the carenado-aircraft-m20r-ovation folder for the aircraft.cfg file rather than going as deep as your screenshot goes or b) search for aircraft.cfg in the Steam folder (which, if successful would show the files for every aircraft)? It might even be that you have to show hidden folders or that Steam has encrypted them for some reason, though that seems too heavy handed to be true.

Nice review Ray as usual. The pad & animations are some of the features that caught my attention.

I finished watching the extremely short Textron partner video and they said their products in the sim were "crazy realistic." Yikes.

This made me twitch as well. Couldn’t watch the whole thing in order to prevent a full-on grand mal seizure. Even had to leave a comment on the video, which I seldom do.

As for the M20R, I’ve enjoyed it so far. It was my go-to GA in XP and I find Carenado’s offering in MSFS is not terrible at all.

And if you flip the pilot sun visor down,  you'll see performance data.

I think this in only temporary.  I am wanted to make it more permanent. Thanks.

That is in the aircraft.cfg file for the default airplanes.

For the addon airplanes, this file is not accessible as best I can tell..

Yep, just like the real one.

When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .

Has anyone been able to activate the speedbrakes?

The button on the yoke is not visible, and there is no "Speedbrake" setting that I can find in MSFS Controls.
