September 20, 20205 yr I also reckon LOD distance has been reduced. I think there are many more trees popping up out of nowhere a once very close, like at the statue of liberty. I'm happy with it considering the performance gains which were unattainable using the graphics settings alone
September 20, 20205 yr Are you sure your LOD setting is the same as before? Some people reported that their graphics settings were reset after the patch. Does the popping persist with both terrain and object LOD set to 200? I don't think I'm seeing any difference myself, but then I'm playing at the lowest settings.
September 20, 20205 yr The difference is marginal at best. And even at 80, the result is much better than X-Plane's highest LOD setting ("1.0"). Setting this as low as you can deal with will claw back some serious CPU time. This is 80 at 6.000ft above Apple in Palo Alto, I'm not complaining. During final approach it's absolutely sufficient. - Currently giving X-Plane 12.10 a spin on Shadow PC. 10 years with X-Plane now, since 10.20

September 21, 20205 yr The LOD radius appears to be set in the useropt.cfg file. It is currently showing a LOD of 4.0 (or maybe 4.5 - there are two entries). I don't think that is unusual, unless there was a global tweak by the devs that cut it down outside of that option. Thanks, and yep I thought that might have happened considering the performance gains, but they were indeed unchanged. However I did a reset just in case.
September 21, 20205 yr Haven't done much flying post patch, but from a screenshot taht I took today, it indeed seems like flora draw distance is less. I don't know if it is actually so or not, but if it is then it certainly is a strange decision by developers. We have a slider that controls this setting, so just tell people to lower it instead of reducing its total effectiveness. Now I have yet to seen direct comparison screenshots (which is hard to achieve, I admit) so I will refrain from getting my pitchfork out just yet. Would like a comment from developers. September 21, 20205 yr Reducing the overall LOD to improve performance would have made no sense: there are sliders with values that range from 10 to 200 in order to allow fine tuning with a vast range of CPUs. A 16 GB update to reduce the LOD then? 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber
September 21, 20205 yr Author So quite a few people noticed a difference, thx for your answers. To me there seems to be no slider or setting that affects the issue I think I am seeing: trees and buildings were drawn farther away pre-patch, that's what i would describe as LOD radius and what seems to be set here: 7 hours ago, robert young said: The LOD radius appears to be set in the useropt.cfg file. What I think the often mentioned sliders in the sim do (I'm not on an english version so maybe the caption differs): Render Scaling: overall quality of objects/textures Terrain LOD: Mesh quality Object LOD: Distance in which a certain LOD version of an object is drawn, but NOT the distance in which the object is drawn at all. So to me there seems to be no possibility to change the general LOD radius - meaning the distance in which an object is "appearing" in the sim - without tweaking system files. 8 hours ago, Sphynnx said: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/asobo-ms-please-fix-photogrammetry-latest-patch-has-made-it-worse/279217 Whoever has issues, please vote here I'll do, thanks for the hint.
