I too am frustrated with this latest update. I doubt I'll ever be "done" with the sim itself, but I can see tabling it between updates when one update brings new and substantial bugs and degradations.

As for Asobo "nerfing" graphics in favor of performance, I really don't like this. Let us do our own nerfing with the quality settings.

Could we please all take a breath and stop with the conspiracy tin foil hat accusations for a second.

Does anyone SERIOUSLY believe that Asobo is intentionally trying to dumb down the code on one system to facilitate the running on the upcoming system X.  We are talking about a $500 game system, not a multi thousand dollar computer.   Use your brain.  The entire theory makes no sense, and worse, there is ZERO evidence, just the rantings of several people who seem committed to find some nefarious reasons to continue to belittle and bemoan the work of a developer, that, IMHO, has been more responsive to the community than any developer in the history of flight sim.  And we wonder why eventually developers and publishers tune us out.

I have been through all three patches, and I have not seen ANY degrading of visual quality at all.  Neither in AA or in LOD.  I started this sim with an i5-5700 and upgraded to an i7-7700 to get MT, which makes a huge difference in Intel 7th gen CPU's.  Added 24GiG of Ram, and replaced my 4GB AMD RX580 with a 6GB GTX1660 Super.

The only time I noted any "disappointment" was when I asked NVidia to "optimize" flight simulator, and it toned all my settings down to medium low in hopes to achieve their magical 60FPS goal, and it turned off TAA for FXAA and made everything blurry.

I turned off the optimizations, locked my Frames at 30 and have been flying at Ultra, with the only exception of setting LOD to 100 and turning off Depth of Field.  At 1080p, I couldn't be happier.

I urge those who throw out gross and inaccurate comparisons to FSX and FS9 to reload those and look at those before you start making your groundless observations.

I have vanillia FSX and FS9 on my system.  FS9, which I considered to be the gold standard at the time is unplayable.  The cockpits are a low resolution mess, The "blurries" are back in their full glory. I struggle now to even wonder what I was thinking 16 years ago.  FSX looks better, but the Autogen is still terrible,  Random placement of buiding and trees that don't reflect the real world in any meaningful way.  The water coloration is way off, and in many cases the landclass is inappropriate, creating urban and suburban areas where they really don't exist.  Not to mention, the difficulty in VFR since the hand drawn roads are nearly obliterated by the default textures used for suburban and urban land class.

For me it was a testament to just how "rose colored" my nostalgia had become. Kind of like re-watching Buck Rogers in the 25th Century now as an adult and wondering...'I thought this garbage was good?  What was I smoking?"

EVEN with this simulator in OFFLINE mode using the base install, the sim looks MILES better than FSX out of the box.  The building, vegetation and road placement is more accurate, the Autogen is denser and don't even get me started on the representation of the atmospheric environment.

So I understand the frustration some are having, and yes, everyone has a right to an opinion.  But I think that right stops when one starts throwing around groundless accusations regarding intentional "nerfing" of the product, or when they try to make a statement like "worse than FSX" or "just like fs9", which just isn't borne out by facts.

UPDATE:  Someone did mention that perhaps LOD was narrowed to save on bandwidth usage per person.   Now THAT is something I could believe in.  I did some testing today and noticed pop in, but I can't be sure that pop in wasn't always there.   I do understand why MS might want to limit an individuals bandwidth usage, and narrowing down LOD radiuses would be the obvious answer.

If that is a reason, (and mind you it's PURE conjecture on my part, I have no proof of this), then what might be an acceptable compromise would either to allow users to purchase a subscription or bandwith pass that would allow extended LOD radius.  OR tweak the rolling and personal caches in such a way that If you are flying in a "cached" area, your draw distance is greater because you have those resources in cache.

world tour with the Carenado Ovation but now again there is a heading bug and the plane just zigzags

That has been there since Carenado released the Mooney. You might want to take it up with them.

What is particularly odd is the picture attached looks exactly as the window out of an airplane looks in real life.

Well I for one am done with the real world and its scalped LOD.

I'm wondering if they did this on purpose, deciding that the original settings were too intensive for computers right now. Given that they state they're supporting this game for 10 years, they probably expect to have the game be a bit too much for computers right now to handle, but that over time computers will catch up.

I've been told there is a thing called 'sliders'.
It's been said that people can use sliders to adjust visual quality to their liking and also with respect to their system capabilities.

Maybe just a rumor.

The trouble with your logic is that a lot of MSFS features don't work correctly and 3rd party add-ons are going to be needed to fix them, at least for people that care about immersion and realism. The net result will be a P3d-like actual price.

I did want to add something that has nothing to do with @NYxx's quote. A number of people have pre-ordered the HP Reverb G2 virtual reality headset in anticipation of VR being supported in MSFS. The headset is due for release next month, so my guess is that Asobo has been testing it with MSFS already. Patch 3 may be a harbinger of other changes that may be needed to support VR in DX11.

I have to respectfully disagree J,

I was more thinking about what you need to make P3D out the box look anything like MSFS. Orbx Global, Orbx OLC, Orbx Vector, or TE,  You really need airports for P3D or your immersion is out the window, I dread to think how much I have spent on them. The default airports in MSFS are a far cry from even OLC airports, small airports can look really good with the runways slopes etc. The Hand crafted ones also look good if the airport is not close to your heart. So before we get into the realms FSL/PMDG/AS just to get the ground to anything like MSFS costs a lot of money and am not talking about adding things that enhance MSFS in the comparison. Even if you want to add in airports there far cheaper for MSFS. So I have to disagree with the base level like for like cost imo is nothing like. I could add CP to a must have for P3D. But I admit I would buy a MSFS version if and when.

Just compare the water at release vs what we have now.

I concur with the blurry mess, sometimes it seems I'm back flying FSX, this very thing got me to try XP and never went back. It is soooooo unfortunate that such a fundamental flaw in FSX is now present in such a master piece, Asobo need to address and fix this ASAP.

Like I said, I noticed no difference, and your statement is ridiculous as it is impossible to get back to release conditions.  Perhaps if you have screenshots of the same area with water pre and post patching you could make a case.  But all I see is opinion, no screenshots that backup any of these claims.

What is more likely is the longer we play the game, we notice more of the graphical imperfections.  This happens all the time.  The new car smell begins to fade and we notice all the things we don't like or didn't notice before.   6 months after you own a new car, you notice all the things you didn't quite notice before.  The car didn't change, your perception did.

Something must be protecting me from the horror.   I'm not seeing any difference I can ascertain, except I'm not trying to run LOD over 200, so presumably it's been capped from what others say I've just not tried it.  I'm only using the TBM but so far since Patch 3 things still look fine and performance seems the same.  Glad I'm still able to use the game because I'm having a hard time using P3D 4.5 now it's just so corny looking by comparison, and performance sucks by comparison, though I know it's a difficult comparison to attempt.

Might be nonsense but try deleting and rebuilding the rolling cache.  I did this at someone's behest when I was seeing degradation post patch 2, and things improved.  I did this again immediately after patch 3 and things seem OK I believe.

There are PLENTY of screenshots over the official forums. Plenty.... go take a look. Ps this isn’t a new car.

For me water after latest patch is also worst than ever, looks like big blue stain and nothing else.
