MY TWO CENTS - Just Have FUN

Here's another perspective: don't settle for mediocrity, especially when paying $100+. This product has so many bugs and is so unpolished that it pains me to even attempt to fly. The SDK is such a disappointment and has led to minimal third party addons thus far. It's clear the game was rushed to market by Microsoft knowing it was unfinished and riddled with bugs.

Not >100$, only 60$...

He probably bought the premium edition.

Regardless, the original thread seems to be saying have some fun and just enjoy what the game is good at, messing about in simple GA planes in VFR with crazy preset weather options enjoying the scenery.

To which the response from some people is " no i want my IFR and real world weather and sophisticated flight models and complex study level aircraft systems and I want working perfectly, and i want them now" ...  which they are entitled to say ... and  which we are equally entitled to ignore and go have fun.

Sadly, I think many are unable to engage this mode.  For them, this mode is buggy and I just wish they'd fix it already.

My 2 cents.... Kudos to AmeliaCat!  She's got the right attitude.

It seems, that there are those who are so protective of their own nickle, that they abhor others who only have 2 cents. My penny still shines.

Please explain to me how having fun is settling for mediocrity.  I want the bugs fixed as well, but refuse to let them ruin my experience.

As mature as Skyrim is, and how many graphical updates it has, there are still some head scratching bugs in the system.  Stealth is OP, and being able to sit in the middle of a room 5 feet from someone looking at you and not being detected is far from accurate.  And I'm still wondering how a guard with two arrows sticking out of his body can somehow still perform a cursory search of the immediate area and determine, that "he must just be hearing things".

Yet I somehow find myself drawn back into Skyrim annually despite all of it's inconsistencies.  Why?  One, because it's still "fun" and more importantly, because when it DOES work properly, I find no RPG more immersive, nor do I find a world more convincing then the one that Bethesda created.  Riding on horseback on a snow blown road, I can practically feel the shivers.  My heart still aches for the little orphan selling me flowers to feed herself after her parents died.  (Of course I adopt her, because even a professional killer, thief, and lycanthrope is better than no parent at all (lol)).

Here's another perspective.  Flight simulator 2.0 had one GA aircraft you could fly in the real world, and you had 5 scenery areas that you couldn't fly between, and 4 color CGA graphics,  In today's dollars it was about $75.

And yet even with single digit frame rates we "managed" to have fun.

Fast forward today.  Take out the 172, or if you have Premium Deluxe the 172 without the glass cockpit and fly it, as is, with all it's bugs.  Tell me that isn't substantially better than what was available 38 years ago.

It's called perspective.  If MS had done nothing but "reissued" an updated version of FS 2.0, with only one plane and the current scenery and weather engine it would have been worth it, because it's immeasurably better than what I was flying in 1986.  And I was willing to pay what I paid in 1986.  I even switched from a Commodore 64 to an IBM compatible so I could have the smoother frames in the IBM PC version.

The bugs you mention are bugs that exist in a portion of the sim that I consider gravy.  It's additional content that goes beyond the scope of what I purchased in 1986.  Also, the amount of third party addons that we have thus far FAR exceeds what was available for other major releases of the product at the time of their release..

Tell me how many 3PD addon's worked with FS5 when they went to texture based graphics instead of solid graphics?   How many addons for FS98 worked with FS2002?  How many FSX exclusive add ons were available at launch.

Not only is your statement filled with gross generalization and hyperbole, it's not even remotely accurate with the exception that there are known bugs with the release, which BTW, are being addressed more aggressively than ANY previous version of Flight simulator to date.

There are plenty of people here who are "managing" to have fun with this product.  Many of us have decided to steer clear of things we know are bugged for the time being.  If you are unable to do so, then that is on you.

Now look, it was a hard vfr flight.

Folks and cats, I downloaded today the Flybywire Airbus mod and cudos to the team, I had a great first flight with the Neo from EDDM to Milano Linate with great live weather and live traffic across the Alps. The bus flew great, I figured out pretty easy how to handle it though I did not start cold&dark and thus it basically handled rather me by doing everything automatically. well, I still had to set altitude, star and arrival rwy, lights, flaps and other important things. seriously, never really liked the airbus before (knowing just aerosofts bus from FSX which was back then astonishingly (seemingly?) too complicated after having flown PMDG study level for several years). Again, that was FUN! And even Asobo/MS are funny considering the answer from ground after I requested to send the baggage ...

Now there's some realism for you...!

The important thing to add - stop playing when you stop having fun.  When/if frustration mounts, play another sim, or even something else entirely.  Take a break.  Don't spend your precious spare time on something causing you frustration.  Flight sims are very different than marriage.  If you get tired of one sim, you can swap back and forth as much as you like.  None of the others will get jealous!

When hardcord ifr or vfr planning gets to my head, i just take a CAP10 and go crazy around the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Amazing fun. But boy is that river buggy as hell (elevation bugs everywhere)

It’s worth mentioning that a lot of simmers here have been legally prohibited from having fun with their sim of choice, so it’s possible they have forgotten how. 😀
