November 1, 20205 yr A definite yes for me. Sure, it's had its frustrations and problems, and I miss all the weird and wonderful aircraft I have in my P3D hangar, along with the replay facility in X-Plane, but basically I haven't powered either of those sims up more than once (to see how I felt about them) since I've had MSFS on my system. At the risk of tempting fate, I haven't had any disabling problems, but I did also get a new PC back in April and got everything set up in anticipation of the sim so maybe that has made a difference. I don't like the whole 'Microsoft owns my PC now' feeling of the way it's delivered and maintained, but I'm learning to live with it. There are work-rounds for a lot of the things I don't like and the rest I'll put up with (and I do understand the reasoning behind the way the environment works) because for me, the bottom line is that this is by far the best thing out there for what I want. Five stars from me, thank you Asobo. November 1, 20205 yr It definitely exceeded my expectations! I am simming since FS9 and currently (before MSFS), XP11 and P3D were my main sims (P3D got less and less for me). What Asobo and Microsoft has delivered, is really magnificent and is really, represents a truly next gen sim. Sure it has annoying bugs, airlines just... But I am not naive to expect FSlabs, FF, Toliss, PMDG level aircrafts out of the box and I know about time, we will see third party airliners soon although FBW320 is getting there very fast to reach Zibo level! The performance that I get in MSFS way better than what I get in P3D5.1 and XP11.5 with that level of graphics. Maybe I am lucky I never had any CTDs? In summary, I am 100% confidence that MSFS will be "the" sim sooner or later and I am happy about that. However, I'd wish to see a next gen XP12 as I myself consider myself an XP fan besides MSFS :). November 1, 20205 yr I'd say yes, we all knew it wasn't going to be bug free out of the gate, for me it runs smooth, looks good, but not great - yet, would like to see military airfields done better, Edwards AFB in FSX is much better right now than MSFS2020 as an example, however I'm confident it will get there and will be THE sim once the bugs are fixed and SDK is fully ready for addon aircraft, Asobo seems to listen and are transparent with the community, more than any other sim, a good thing. November 1, 20205 yr a no for me, has it meet my expectations as of 1NOV2020? far from it. the hype the lead up to release, this is not the silver bullet everyone was telling me, including the PR releases from MS the stock aircraft dont have any appeal and what there is, feels extremely arcade-ish, while the scenery is an extreme improvement, there are many flaws. The remarks from developers you can fly VFR and find your house, well half of my city isnt even depicted in the sim and where my 9 yr old house is, there is grass and trees. the level of ground textures are some what hit and miss, i found photography where it goes from green to snow to green again the lack of warbirds and helicopters etc etc while the visual appeal is nice, it lacks a lot of substance will it meet my expectations in 5 -10 yrs ? who knows but there is a long way to go for it to have the same appeal my preferred platform of choice offers me. If the stock aircraft had no appeal, as well as the lack of war birds & helicopters, why did you buy it, if you knew about it? Or did you just want to fly over your house? Cannot blame the sim for not showing your house, Bing has just been very slow in capturing it. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
November 1, 20205 yr Yes for me. What I wanted, more than anything was something (Anything!!) that had the potential to break the heavy albatross around the genres neck that was the ESP engine, which to anyone familiar with modern gaming, looked and performed like a relic that people had learned to accommodate because there was nothing better, or that even had the potential to be better, except perhaps X-plane. And even X-plane to me was, until version 11, significantly unbalanced in that its technical depiction of aircraft garnered good reviews, while its depiction of the actual world was to me, in many ways just as poor as that of the ESP engine, once again, leaving the entire effort feeling dated, though the expansion by orbx and others into orthophotos and accurate building placement helped a lot. Now we have a sim that promises a world depiction that we could only dream of just two years ago, coupled with native technologies that we had long since become accustomed to paying for, with planes that out of the box far exceed any default craft we had ever previously received, all with beautiful 3D cockpits and sounds of a quality that once again we would have had to previously pay for... All for $5, if one went with the gamepass version.... And the complaining began. Those trees are too big! (but lets forget about the fact that we have never before in any sim had such accurate worldwide tree placement) The clouds look funny! (forgetting that we had never before seen such clouds, with such features, at such framerates, ever before) The weather is not perfectly accurate everywhere! (Forgetting that its the best out-of-the-box weather depiction we have ever had) It goes on and on, forgetting that the sim is only about two months old, and has already had 5 updates and a hotfix, a pace of engagement that we have never before seen, and still people feel its not enough. We are given an updated region (Japan) for free? (Not enough!!) We are promised major updates? (Too slow!!!!!) The company is keeping in contact with us and keeping us informed to an unprecedented degree? (Marketing BS!!!!) The water is is fantastic? (Not fantastic enough!!!) The lighting is awesome? (Not awesome enough!!) And thus it goes. *Shrugs* One quickly gets the impression of unrealistic expectations coupled with a belief from some that Asobo/Microsoft is can/should be charged with nearly criminal negligence if they fail to cater to our every whim. NOW!! Good luck with all that. In the meantime, I'm exploring the world. Places I would never have flown previously because they would have looked exactly the same as any other part of the world in our previous sims. I'm savoring the atmosphere and views, and exploring the current limits of the generous selection of aircraft, trying the missions, and learning new things. I'm having fun, and feel sorry for those who maybe want to, but for whatever reason, can't. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. November 1, 20205 yr MSFS has exceeded my expectations in some areas and fallen WAY short in others. I don't know what others get out of the sim but I really enjoy immersing myself into a pilot's role. I like my airports vibrant and full of airline traffic, I like being put into queue at a busy airport and have a Delta flight landing next to me on 19L while I am on final on 19R with one on my tail. I am not FULLY able to experience that yet. With that said, this flight sim has made me appreciate VFR. Which no sim ever has been able to do, outside of airports in the past the scenery was always bleh, not so here. Even the clouds and atmosphere is just breathtaking. I was flying into Canada last night with a 980mb low coming in so the weather was quite bumpy but I was in and out of clouds at sunrise and the gaps between the cells was absolutely spectacular. Friday night I had a VFR flight into a small airport in Wasilla, Alaska from Fairbanks. Anyone not familiar with Alaska Wasilla sits in a valley with a pretty extensive mountain range to the north. I picked out a valley in the mountains to make my decent and just the feeling of two mountains on either side of me with the Matanuska River in front and me knowing exactly where I was from when I grew up there, it was a pretty surreal feeling. Now I am no ILS snob but it would be really nice for the approach stuff to not bug out on you, it would be nice for the TOGA button on your throttle to load up missed approach vectors automatically, it would be cool for vnav to actually work (or at least ATC clear you to descend so that you could do a realistic descent by the time you hit your approach. It would be nice if live AI traffic was controlled by the sim instead of disappearing when they touchdown and turn off their xpndr. It would be nice for these things to be next gen out of the box. November 1, 20205 yr I am gobsmacked impressed YES! I was anxious about how this online streaming thingi would work. No worries now. All I need is a magic tool, I can input my 400 or so addone airports I have from FSX-P3D and it could convert to an addon for MSFS. November 1, 20205 yr I'd say yes and no, maybe the AP is a bit of a let down generally, lot's of little things need fixing, but Asobo hopefully will get there especially after the SDK is finished. November 1, 20205 yr This is one of those things where having realistic expectations and lower hype make a huge difference for me. I expected amazing scenery and performance, combined with bugs and features not fully developed. I already subscribed to Game Pass anyway, so the game was "free" for me and the standard version still is, but I bought the premium version after a few days. I've mentioned a few times, I do software development with boring business software, and I know how this goes. I'm not saying people should or shouldn't "accept" it, but this is not going to change. Modern development works this way. You develop a minimum viable product and get it out to the consumer faster, then build/fix based on their feedback. This is how everything from games to the erp systems that massive companies use to run their business. The days of the software being "done" and put in a shrink wrap box are long gone. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
