Has MSFS 2020 met your initial expections?

I respect your opinion but wonder why you feel that way. Those platforms, especially P3D are older and less realistic.

Why wouldn’t folks want add on vendors to fill in some of the blanks on this sim which is way more advanced than those others?

I believe you may have misinterpreted his post.

Yes initially because coming from fs2004 and taking a long break from simming the chasm in graphics and immersion was amazing. I needed to re acclimate myself to IFR procedures and didn't need study level airliners for a bit so the default level systems available were very much adequate to my abilities and i would over time ease into PMDG level stuff next year or so. Then the patches and all their problems and issues came... since patch number two My opinion of the developers processes and sim pretty much switched to negative...Presently, it is now at neutral as of this last patch since a good amount of the visual issues have been rectified. If they can patch without breaking the sims core functionality or degrading the graphics for a few rounds then i can then say its an overall positive. For now im on the fence.

Not within 100 miles.

It’s not perfect, but i’ll admit it is FUN! I’ve been a flight simmer since FS2 in Apple IIe. I can go as “abstracted” from a visual point of view when using something such as Aerowinx PSX in standalone mode, to as a visual only experience such as in MSFS 2020 (and as @jcomm said earlier, integrating both is just a mind blowing experience ).

I have flown mostly single engines and gliders in the real world, and from my short real experience, the scenery/weather/atmospherics in MSFS provide me with an enjoyable “being” there feeling.

It sure needs to mature, I miss my GTN, accurate weather and payware aircraft, but that doesn’t mean I can’t keep using XP11 and P3D (just this week I spent close to $200 bucks in add-ons for both), but download Rob’s Bonanza and WT G1000 mods and you will have fun, guaranteed!!!

To some it seems having fun is a simulator-specific thing, or just outright against having a “real, study level” experience. It isn’t mutually exclusive! Have fun and enjoy the evolution of our hobby.

Asobo, LM and Laminar have my support, I think they will continue improving their respective products and we as flight simmers can only but benefit from that.

So, what we have is great eye-candy, with a couple of aberrations, & a bunch of GA aircraft, some better than others, as well as a sim that needs a large engine (PC) to get started. AS well as a multitude of crashes, reloads, reinstalls & complaints. Yes, it's been a couple of months only.

What we have is a lack of helicopters, gliders, warbirds & even a car to get an eyelevel view of the scenery.

Apart from the eye candy.. what are the best 100% working features of MSFS?

It;s a serious question.. It seems that the general consensus is disappointment so far, but what are the gut grabbing features? (apart from the scenery)

It had exceeded my expectations, but they have visually degraded the sim since release, in particular the water and now with the almost offensively bad night lighting (some call it the illuminated circuit board look).

Still highly impressed overall, but not pleased with these visual changes.

After more flight time, I have to revise my opinion somewhat. They have vastly improved the water again and the nightlighting isnt as bad as my first impression, but I still prefer the original version. Biggest issue is those overbearing white orbs lining the highways, as already extensively discussed.

Your own opinion when sitting at your PC is all that matters. Whether you like it, hate it, or will never buy it. And where are these magical perfect sim's, and forums at? If they were all perfect and every addon worked perfectly for every single person would there be a need for a community? So my question is should they have ever announced the sim in June 2019, or just stayed away from this market? I thought most simmers would have been happy, no matter who announced another sim into the market. I guess I was wrong? And good luck with getting the perfect sim, ever, with not one single issue.

And show me a flight sim forum or community where everyone is happy, and has no issues.

Does everyone not forget they have their own opinion about a product. What is good for one person is bad for the other! Be it a flight sim, beverage, meal, etc...

Now, I am going to fly, while having a beverage, and eating a meal! It's called Auto Pilot, cause it not real, for me! But I enjoy it.

Have FUN everyone 🙂

It has bugs, it has issues, it has some growing to do but its clear to me this is the flight sim of the future.  We have had 5 patches and a world update since release (yes I know quality has been an issue).  However its clear to me at least Asobo are committed.  The shear number of wow moments I have had flying has been unmatched using FSX/P3D/XPlane, I sometimes think ahead to when the big boy payware aircraft land with all the simulation fidelity we need/want and have happy thoughts!  Patience my friends, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Recognizing the issues that many users have had, and are having, with this sim, I personally am thrilled to have real-world scenery for the entire globe and a feeling of immersion that approaches real flying, to a degree that far exceeds my 20-year experience with FS9 and FSX. When the dust finally settles from all the starting pains with MSFS, I think what will be clear is that this is a tremendous step forward that marks the beginning of a whole new era in flight-simming. Many of the problems a lot of us have had with MSFS center on our unfamiliarity with it, and the need to learn a whole new -- and much more realistic -- way of flying. I did not realize in all my years of flying FSX, which was a great sim for its time, how watered-down and simplified it is compared to real flight. This is apparent both in the computer-drawn buildings and cities that look nice, but mostly appear nothing like their real-world counterparts, and in the planes whose control panels now seem kiddie-like compared to MSFS. As in the WWI song "How Ya Gonna Keep 'em Down on the Farm After They've Seen Paree?", I will never go back to FSX.

Finally, to those whose frustration with MSFS leads them to trash the product as "garbage', "junk", "a ripoff", not to mention other, unprintable epithets, consider that for many simmers MSFS does work. There must be a message here.

Reading this thread I would disagree. And for every person visiting a forum with a complaint there are probably 1,000 of them that are happy and feel no need to visit one.

So sue me.. I am currently on a long flight  (9.5 hours ( got a tail wind so going to be early) from LAX to Heathrow in the 787 at FL410  with approx 2 hours to go)  and have plenty of time to play in the forums.

You said the above...  a 5 minute run through gives these figures  (so a coupel either way may be missed)...

12 users  No  it has not met my expectations..

13 users Neutral..   ie  not sure one way or the other

22 users made posts that were not relevant to the topic and did not answer the question

41 users say exceeded expectations or better,  therefore exceeding the combination of nos and neutrals even.

Ha that is both impressive and a little bit sad at the same time that you counted them all!
