If you don't mind CTDs, this is a nice sim

Featured Replies

Two weeks ago Prosim released their 737 NG beta.

Five days I flew around without CTD’s. Flew around the Netherlands, flew to Milan. Flew to Faro.

Then it started. All error messages are Simconnect issues ; Simconnect makes message/call errors and then MSFS crashes.

For cockpitbuilders it is all trial and error at this moment.

Made a 4h flight with P3D yesterday and it felt good to finish a flight.

Hopefully this Simconnect version will be improved and more stable

This one tops all my 3 decades of simming. Now it crashed on the runway  as I was getting ready to take off. What a POS.

Bob, am very sorry to hear your problems, please take a step back, if everyone Sim was crashing like your, no one would be here, I have 120 hours and only one crash.

Sorry something is wrong.

I got a new PC for MSFS, and after installing nothing but controls and the sim, it crashed every time I pressed fly. I spend 8 hours trouble shooting only to find it was a faulty mobo. It was the USB’s, sent pc back, new mobo, 120 hours one CTD and that was because I was doing all sorts of alt tabing changing stuff.

I feel you frustration.

I have a couple of hundred hours usage since August with zero crashes. Most stable sim I have used since FS5.1.

I haven't massively or wrongly OC my computer and I am careful with the freeware i install and i dont hack around with settings.

Bob,

What are your specs? Video driver? Win 10 version? Lastly, make sure that the BIOS is set correctly. An incorrect setting could lead to CTDs.

Setting up a new build - bought or not can be kind of a fine art.  Good luck with it.

What aircraft ?

I have never had a CTD ...  but by the same token I never fly anything bigger than a Bonanza or very occasionally the Caravan and never fly IFR or even use autopilot. Nor do I have anything like Simconnect or FSUCIP installed.

I was on for 2 hours earlier with no issues but I was flying the Anzani RIP version of the Bleriot XI from Musket Bay following the coast down to Milford Sound 20 miles away. (the Anzani Bleriot takes about 20 minutes straight and level to get to 1000' or so, following the coast was essential). The Bleriot does not really have "instruments" 😄

I am wondering if there are issues are with the cockpits on the more complex aircraft ?

Amazing how the sentiment around here is "try not to touch too many things and enjoy the scenery".

The sim so far is a dud outside of the pretty visual.

Sorry to hear your having CTD Bob.

If your getting that many CTD's, then there is an issue with your setup/ PC, or Bios.  I have been lucky, and only had a few CTD over the last 6 months.

One thing I have read, is MSFS seems to be very touchy with USB controllers, and can CTD MSFS a lot if a USB device goes to sleep, etc.  Since this seems to happen to you later into a flight, this might be a cause.

I would go into your device settings, under USB Properties, Under Power management and make sure the checkmark in the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"  is removed. Do this for all your USB devices, and see that helps with the CTD.

Good luck.

No issues with CTDs here. In just 4 months and a half, only maybe not even a handful of CTDs, makes me think this sim is very stable, considering this is still maturing from the development point of view.

If someone has trouble with CTDs is maybe due to some addon(s) conflicting in the Community folder or a wrong setup with the controllers, or a hardware conflict or failure (short of VRAM. RAM, CPU?). What I have found also is that this sim does not need a super computer to run reasonably well.

I wish the best of luck and some patience to people that are having trouble with this sim.

Cheers, Ed

It is definitely a dud for the airline procedure simulation crowd as complex aircraft and procedures IFR and  even autopilot are are all broken.

In some ways that may even be an unexpected good thing as the move towards increasingly complex study level aircraft and procedures is one of the key things that has caused simming as a hobby to lose it's mass appeal.

If the current problems and issues with complex aircraft and systems were to result in Microsoft putting that stuff on hold and focus even more on VFR and fixing scenery glitches and getting the light GA aircraft flying right simming may finally get some mass appeal like the old days.  There are plenty of other sims to do study level complex aircraft and procedures in the meantime.

I read this a lot and I just don't think it's true.

The A320 Neo is a perfectly flyable aircraft with the FBW mod. Granted, the autopilot does occasionally botch an arrival route and the VNAV implementation isn't fully there yet, but these are things that aren't difficult to work out how to do yourself if you've got the charts to hand.

I've been flying it on Vatsim and having tremendous fun. I've actually learnt a great deal about flying SIDs and STARs using the charts and more traditional navaids, when normally I'd just have relied on the aircraft following the magenta line without really understanding what I was doing because I didn't need to.

I dont know what to say here.

Since I got it in when it was released, i have had ONLY 1 or 2 CTD due to an addon in the community folder.

FS2020 has been doing great with my 6 plus y/o system (i6 6600K overclocked to 4700, with 48gm RAM and 1060 6gb)  And I have not reinstalled my windows 10 since my upgrade....i mean that is like a couple of years ago...

With a new system, you may want to do the following:

-Run a RAMTEST to see if you have any bad RAM stick

-As others have suggested, check your BIOS update, sometimes new mobos may have updated BIOS

- Update your drivers, not only graphics

-Uninstall any unnecessary software

-I always use CCleaner to run the registry regularly

-Check to see if any other programs have conflict, and simmconnect may be part of the issue as well

-Have you check your event viewer to see what the cause of CTD?

-Have you disable your Antivirus?  I am currently using ESET NOD 32 and FS2020 runs fine with or without protection on.

-Is your FS2020 is MS store version or Steam? I find people have more problems with Steam version vs MS Xbox

-how are you setting up your pagefile? I have a dedicated SSD (old one) as my pagefile

-My drive setup goes like this C:\ (windows only) D:\software E:\(FS2020 and P3D) F:\ (Page file)

FS2020 doesn't work on your system right now doesn't mean it is a POS, sometimes, you just have to investigate what is the root cause of the CTD.  Most of them time it is user hardware/software issues.

Hopefully my posting will shed some light to help you or maybe not.

Good luck!

Since its release, in all honesty I can count the amount of times it has crashed on my PC, on the fingers of one hand, so in my experience it's certainly no worse than any other flight sim for stability and certainly a lot better than FSX ever was. I don't have any sort of 'don't touch any buttons in the cockpit' policy either, and distance flown appears to have no bearing on matters either, since most of my flights in the sim have been over distances of between 450 to  850 nautical miles.

Of course its annoying if you are not experiencing reliability and stability from the sim, but the fact that some people are does tend to indicate that it is a machine problem, or a settings problem, rather than an issue with the software itself. Personally, I'd try taking the settings down and upping the streaming data capability and see if that has a bearing on stability if I were experiencing crashes, as I should think that would be the most likely culprits.

I did this after reading your post, and two flights of around 100 miles each went off without a problem. Fingers crossed. On the other hand, there are plenty of bugs, that I find everytime I fly, with just one aircraft. I don't know how many hours I have in the sim, because the log book is another thing that doesn't work. I only have two flights in it from the first day. LOL
