February 11, 20215 yr The only addons you really need to remove are ones that override default files (like the FBW A320 and WT CJ4) I’ve never completely emptied my community folder during updates, and have never had issues updating. The update process doesn’t even touch the community folder. Though if you don’t know which of your addons overrides default files, is probably safer just to rename/empty it. For this update I’d probably remove any UK addons as well. Especially the ORBX London landmarks since this update is adding photogrammetry London and some London landmarks. It takes me a second to empty my community file and another second to restore it, so whether it is necessary or not, it doesn't hurt to do it. I do have some UK scenery that I will not put back though until I see whether what ASOBO give us is any better Hope we get all the major bridges - Severn, Humber, Tamar, Menai, Etc. And what about Boris's proposed white elephant bridge to Northern Ireland? February 11, 20215 yr Don’t dismantle your community folders yet, even if you don’t really need to do it, looks to me the update is delayed again. February 11, 20215 yr I've never unlinked the community folder before updating. I don't believe the community folder is germane to any updates. the addons may conflict when something conflicts with updates and if we experience it we need unlink or remove the offending add on. But I doubt it would hinder the update per se. Am I missing anything? Edited February 11, 20215 yr by Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
February 11, 20215 yr Fingers crossed its today. I've finally fully upgraded the PC after a lot of anxiousness trying to get parts, money (and one whole night (10pm to 6am with work that same morning installing an AIO for the first time) Ive been lucky to have built a decent PC last year in August when the sim launched and somehow the hardware was completely balanced (no stutters out the box). However i could not resist the new releases in November so i think with some decent optimization i should finally have the hardware grunt to land at the major airports and not have frames occasionally dropping in the teens. MSI RTX 2080 Super to Powercolor 6800xt Red Devil + AMD 3700x to AMD 5900x Everything has been installed, bios, hardware and software has been tuned optimized and benchmarked. Sim is smooth as butter sitting in the high forties low fifties with a slight render scaling increase for a resolution boost (and to ensure the gpu is always being utilized). Bring on the update !!! Oh and as usual... (fingers crossed they don't bork anything major.. (always gotta add that part for now heh). The only thing is that when you start the sim after the update, some of the mods in there might not play nice with the updated sim. Probably most aircraft mods, terrain fixes and the like are potentially going to cause issues until the respective devs update them.
