MFS Sim Update 3 stutter fix - Virtual memory settings...

Featured Replies

I normally love MSFS, but while this all blows over (I see it too with my brand new rig) I’m really enjoying P3Dv5 with all of the Orbx TE scenery and Carenado investments I’ve made over the years.....smooth as silk and looks very nice with frames unlimited in P3D then set my 4K TV to 30hz refresh.  🙂

It has nothing to do with virtual memory, by no means for me. Stuttering is always on the river, and not every river. Check out the video, ULTRA settings, i-710700K, GTX 1080Ti. EGCB Manchester river

Interesting, it also only happens to me over water (rivers or sea), or when I just pass the land and go over water. It also happens in more dense areas, like flying over the coast of Miami and lake Michigan in Chicago, otherwise the sim is still very fluid.

Haven't look at the official MSFS forums yet, but I think it's up to Asobo to release a hotfix for this. Evidently, there's an issue after the Sim Update 3.

I tried the suggestions on this thread. They did not work for me. My FPS actually went down.

It looks like I'll be flying in NZ until the next update. 😀

I just tried this too. Read the zendesk thread that quoted the memory leak report and that looked impressively researched and reported so thought I'd try this. Hadn't particularly noticed any running out of memory issues while stuttering (a few more years and that may well be me - not the sim <grin>) but tried it anyway. Gave myself a 96Gb page file to go with my 64Gb memory and went flying.

Thought I'd cracked it at first, but after a while same old same old. This time I watched my memory utilisation - never even hit 50% (maxed out at just below 31 Gb used). CPU about 20% and GPU up to max (which is where it should be, I believe).

So, no silver bullet here for me. I'll set that page file back for next time I reboot and go back to waiting for Asobo to fix this.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

An update, the workaround that I have posted about reloading the plane in the dev mode has helped me to reduce the stutters greatly, here are the results:

Before the workaround:

After the workaround:

However I still have the issue the FPS drops for few seconds and then bounce back, I think as the OP, this seems to be related the memory as I noticed it was using like 25gb of RAM out of 32gb (most likely the the drop is because of files reshuffling to proceed further). I will increase the virtual memory and see if it helps

There are rivers almost everywhere, but that is where I have been hit with the worst stutters. Did the last update have some kind of coastline "fix"?

Second update, the virtual memory workaround has worked for me. To summarize, I am pretty sure there is memory leak somewhere and this is really visible if you'd have something like 16GB ram. Anyway, let's hope Asobo will address this issue soon

Although the VM fix does make a real difference and is worth a try, I did a flight in the CJ4 (v 11.1) from CYYJ to CYLW. It’s over water for some of the route this time and sure enough dem d*** stutters came back - albeit only a couple of times in 45 mins. But my performance overall was subpar over what I’d normally expect so I’d agree there’s some thing amiss with this update.

I have done the virtual memory thing; (Physical;16 Gig RAM) VRAM; Minimum; 8000 MB, Maximum 32000 MB)

It helped but did not eliminate entirely. The CPU/ GPU "fits" seem to be slightly less violent and shorter in duration as a result.

It is really bad. Under 30 fps in outside view of a tbm at some medium US Airport.  3440*1440p with a 5800x and a 3080. and lod at 100. I normally use 200 lod and have about 50+ fps

GPU never gets above 15% while I stand there. 16gb ram/32gb available used for msfs alone.

This really needs a hotfix.

The primary thing is to get rid of "Limited By Main Thread" if this fix makes this ugly warning go away, I'm grateful.

I tried the paging file trick months ago. It's something that Asobo recommends at the Zendesk portal for performance improvements. It didn't do anything for me whatsoever then, and it didn't help after the UK or SU3 updates. This is a bug in the sim. They know about it, they talked about a little during the last Q&A, and it seems there are teams that are working to figuring out where these problems are coming from. I say problems because there is more than one issue this time 'round. My suggestion is to be patient and realize there's not much we can do to tweak this.

I to tried the page file fix and it didnt work. This really sucks, i was looking forward to the CRJ this Tuesday and theres no way in hell I can use it now.

Yeah that is was the aim. At least I got the limited hy main thread less, although I still get the fps to load for few seconds but I can live with it until they fix their mess.
