Man that is just sad. These people really need to get a life big time. I bet that's the first time some of those slobs have actually ran anywhere since they were in school.

A 3090 card in my country, if you can get one, is running north of $3,000 USD. They can have them.

But that's the thing. I bet a lot of these people will turn out to be scalpers. Its the same scene when certain highly desired limited sneakers or toys go on sale. The same mad rush, if the store has not prepared well for it.

Not very long after purchase, a lot of those cards will appear on Ebay.

This reminds me of not that long ago when I waited overnight in front of a store in New York for some limited edition sneakers. Mostly alone all night with my cousin, we also invited two shivering strangers into the van to wait with us.

Come morning, we were first in line, but as the store opening approached, some thugs showed up, acting menacing and tried to move to the front of the line, and that simply was not going to happen. After some posturing, where we were apparently expected to back down, we retained our position, only to find that the store manager was in on it and immediately tried to guide his newly arrived thug friends in ahead of the now substantial crowd that had been waiting for hours.

This led to yet another confrontation, and the manager grudgingly allowed my cousin and I and the two people we were protecting inside. As we got our product and began to leave, the thugs were waiting outside.

They ignored us, but began to menacingly encircle the two strangers we had helped out, and a robbery was definitely in the air. So, we grabbed the two, A girl and a teenaged boy, hustled them into my cousins van and drove them home.

Just another day shopping for certain coveted items.

Bleh. 😛

This does lead me to wonder though, how many of those people leaving the store happily clutching their thousand+ dollar purchases will arrive unmolested to their cars....

I forgot to mention that price is from the retail store I usually get my parts from!

Makes me feel better about buying a pre-built system with an RTX 3070.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Am not surprised but amazed at the same time that they all have $3000 in their back pockets to throw at them.

I hope LM and MSFS figures this out for their updates - that majority can't find the fair price for these cards.  I am not paying double market rate.  Let bitcoin prices fall, and then we will see price drops on these cards.

Preventing me to upgrade...looks like I will need to wait for 4xxx cards etc.

The problem now is the standard retail price is going up the 3090 is now around 2,000 or more, and the next gen will likely be more, I fear the days of buying a top end GPU under 2 grand may be gone for good.

This is really quite sad.

How did it get to this and who is really at fault here? Us, for accepting to pay these ridiculous prices has to be the ultimate reason, but the longer this goes on the likes of nvidia and Amd, intel etc will just pump the prices up and up because they know we are stupid enough to pay them.

While i know it will never happen, but just supposing we all turned round and stuck two fingers up and said NO, how long before scalpers etc start to panic and the prices start to drop.

perhaps its time the whole gaming community got together and said enough. With possibly a few exceptions, people have adequate systems that will run most games at descent quality.

As it currently stands your not going to get a card any time soon, so by everyone having a refusal to buy a new card policy your probably only increasing the waiting time a bit longer anyway.

Prices might return to sensible levels

Even these inflated prices are still cheaper than the money I’ve saved not having to commute or go to restaurants for the past 16 months. I suspect many folks feel the same way and are adjusting their spending. Combined with poor supply and a lot of folks skipping the 20x0 generation, I’m not surprised demand is so high and people are willing to pay so much.

it’s easy to blame someone but reality isn’t that easy.

cheers

I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.

You can literally pick the scalpers out of that video.

Scalper convention.
