What will you do with your performance increase?...

Featured Replies

I will be blissfully unaware of any specific FPS increase since I have taken great pains to never measure or display my FPS in this Sim since release day one.  I even made sure to edit the config file for the great Shift-Z Mod before using it so that I wouldn't accidentally see it when checking for other info.  And it has paid great dividends since, for the first time in many many years, I'm just firing up the Sim and flying around having a good time instead of spending my days tweaking and testing.  I am a recovering FSX Tweakaholic.

So I'll probably spend my FPS increase on women and whiskey, then just piddle away the rest.... 😄

Now he could play 😁

As for me, I'll just enjoy the additional FPS and enjoy the stutter-free experience.

As one of those deluded, pitiful souls who in our ignorance find complete satisfaction at 30 FPS, two observations. First, I want all flight simmers to be happy, and for those who yearn for 60 FPS, or even more (80? 120?), best of luck, and may the FPS force be with you.

You are not deluded, I run at 30 except for the DC6 and am pretty satisfied to get that much with my computer. I do yearn for more because I know I would be even more satisfied 🙂 !

Would 80 or 120 better than 60 everything being equal ? What is the sweet spot ? I wish I had the hardware to check but I suspect that there is a law of diminishing return at play for flight simulators.

Secondly, this discussion is a great testimonial to how far we have come in a short time.

Indeed and hats off to Asobo for that.

What I won’t do is tell someone using 4K that “it’s a fallacy” that higher resolutions look better, and that they should let their “male ego” go and just stick with 1080p. Because that would be nuts!

That would be nuts...because the IQ at 4K is so obviously superior to 1080p I am surprised it would even come up for debate. It's a silly as arguing that I'd rather find a five dollar bill on the ground than a twenty, because I don't need the extra cash.

(Apologies if I’m stating something that’s already obvious to you, but on the internet you just never know:)

That’s my point! It’s just as silly to suggest that there’s no meaningful difference between  30 FPS and 60 as it is to suggest there’s no meaningful difference between 1080p and 4K.

Of course there will be a difference between 30 and 60 FPS. The issue here is whether there is a perceptible difference. Based on posts to this thread, the answer obviously depends on who is doing the perceiving.

And I'm asking again, did you ever play any type of computer or video game at 60 FPS before?

i think some people forget a few things, i easily see the diff between 30 and 60 fps in any game.

i am just not willing to pay the price for it in hardware costs.

so 30 fps in msfs is more than enough for me .

Yes, I have seen 60 FPS at times in running MSFS, and it looked great. It also looks great at 30 FPS. I see no difference (which is why I now keep it locked at 30). If you do, I believe you. As I said, perceptions vary.

For me, there is a huge difference between 30 and 60 FPS.  30 is just slightly choppy, not really choppy but not completely fluid.  60 FPS is super fluid.  Looking to the side when taking off, the scenery moves past in a realistic manner, like I am really there.  30 FPS is as if I am watching a video of someone else flying.  To each their own though.

This whole thing is getting a bit stale (I suspect I am not alone here), but just for the record, I do not see any difference between lateral and frontal views, as in takeoffs, in 30 vs. 60 FPS. They look equally fluid to me. If they didn't, I would not have my FPS locked to 30.

Would I be out of line in suggesting we move on?

Is this when playing yourself, or watching a video running at 60 FPS?

That is why we can set things up the way that suit our own needs.  It works out great that way

Playing myself. No videos.

I actually was quite astonished when I first configured my system to display 60 fps for flying with the Spitfire. I always had flown with smooth 30 fps and didn't expect a real difference. But with 60 fps it really feels more alive, the movement in a mountaineous landscape feels more realistic and more like moving in a real 3d landscape. Hard to explain. When flying at altitude 30 fps is enough. But low and fast needs 60. So I really hope that the update makes this possible in more complex, urban areas.
