Is it time (and safe) to get MSFS?

Featured Replies

I have resisted buying MSFS.  I've seen so many new programs have so many problems for months after launch that I decided to sit back and watch the ensuing mayhem - of which there appears to have been much.

However, things seemed to have settled now and with the much-heralded performance improvement coming at the end of the month, will it be time to take the plunge?

An additional question: if I purchased MSFS after this update, would the download come with this update included along with all the previous updates - or will they all have to bee downloaded separately?

Yes, definitely. Just understand that this sim is going to evolve over many months, and even years. But it is very good (but unfinished) right now.

In your position, I would wait until the end of the month and check if the sim update 5 doesn't break anything that needs to be fixed with urgent hotfixes or something like that. You'll be able to download the latest version outright then. Just the world updates need to be installed in separate steps.

Apart from that, I would say MSFS should be perfect for anyone interested in the flight sim genre. There's still some quirks here and there, but it's the best and most complete civilian flight sim we ever had in its stock release form.

MSFS works fine from a fresh install and it is generally stable, if you don't overclock your CPU components.

People that have problems usually overlock their CPU components, or they install a lot of add-ons (unfortunately, some add-on makers don't update their add-ons when MSFS is updated, leaving their add-ons incompatible with the latest MSFS update).

Yes!! I’ve just migrated to msfs and I am enjoying it despite a few minor issues with regards to trying to get my sensitivities on controllers right. And trying to get the textures sharper which I guess a few people are having issues with.

I am using a 2k monitor Samsung g5 32 inch.

Ide  guess it be different using a 4K?

cheers

same here, definite YES. I am back into simming after a break of many years (skipped P3D and bought and flew XP just a handful times). any install will always download the latest version, actually you won't be able to influence much when an update is installed as it is basically pushed centrally. even recently upgrade my i5-2500 to a modest i7-10600 and while I was able to fly MSFS even on my 10+ year old i5 the performance now is just outstanding already on the new i7, never dipping below my 30fps limit. So depending on your current system you may not even need (to wait for) the upcoming performance fix but I am more than happy to move some sliders further right then (though I am already now on high altogether with some ultra settings)

MSFS should've been released in the state it is right now. So that pretty much answers your question.

Only basic feature I am still missing is the replay functionality.

Happy with MSFS 🙂
home simming evolved

I'm interested in getting back into it after the update at the end of July... these were my biggest issues before I stopped playing... does anyone know if they are addressed, or will be addressed?

- Honeycomb buttons causing 10-deg heading bug (I read this is fixed!)

- ATC providing erratic or dangerous altitudes

- Entering assigned approach upon arrival causes a u-turn (IFR flight)

- RNAV glide slope capture not working on A320NX

- Undocked pop-out windows to 2nd monitor causing significant FPS loss

- No landing replay/review function

- Lack of tropical water masks

This is the most stable sim I've ever flown, and it completely crushes the competition when it comes to the world and the graphics. The only real downside is that the sim doesn't have an extensive library of payware addon planes like the other established sims. The addon developers simply haven't had the time to produce all the planes that are available to the other sims at this time

What are you talking about?

Yes. The sim is been improved constantly, and will continue for several years.
