Microsoft can spin up as many servers as they want but you can't spin up band width.

Given the relatively limited number of updates in this version which I cannot attempt to even download before servers calm down a bit, I don't understand why Asobo is offering this update as such a huge download. My entire premium installation was barely 110 gigs including quite a few addons, so how can this update need to be so massive? It's not far off the equivalent of downloading the entire sim from scratch.

Why does almost every folder have to be re-downloaded? Does Asobo think we all have 500 megabit internet connections? Unless you live in a large UK town or city and live near a super-fibre junction point, the average UK download speed is rarely more than around 25-40 megabits. Surely Asobo could make more effort to keep updates vastly more efficient and far less huge. It cannot be possible that they need to force such a huge download every time they do an update. They need to take a bit more trouble to cut things down to manageable sizes.

Actually you can if you have good CDN infrastructure. Redundancy across multiple datacenter will ensure the load is properly distributed. Otherwise, companies like Youtube and Netflix would not be able to maintain that quality of service. To be frank, there is not much good excuses on the part of a company as big as Microsoft to have as big of a problem with bandwidth for a relatively small group of user.

Most of what I seemed to be downloading before I gave up for the day were the training flights or new logos.  Neither of which I'm particularly interested in so it would have been nice to have those ancillary changes as optional extras, in marketplace maybe.  Might have cut down the download size considerably.

Agree with you strongly here. There is a lot of what should be optional stuff. It should be easy to divide the extra material into optional downloads, but from past updates it also looks like Asobo is imposing compulsory updates of huge amounts of data for the sake of a relatively minor tweaks (in terms of extra files or new files needed). Past updates seem to confirm that quite small additions or tweaks that need a change to a couple of sub-folders involve having to download the entire master folder. It's a really bad waste of bandwidth.

Definitely a system design call.  I would have done it.

I'll fetch the update tomorrow, but that comment concerns me just a tiny bit, especially the "a lot" part ; ).

I had to underclock my CPU to 4.7 GHz. That cooled things down without any impact on performance.

While I wait for the download to finish.....

Is this the update with the new world map/globe when choosing a flight? If so is it good?

After all the work you did to 'fix' their bonanza... the least they could do is give you a download! 🙂

Ya it's good.  It's essentially the same but when you zoom in you get town names and a detailed sattelite image you can zoom in on.

Probably due to using CPU multiple Cores. (more power and heat. good thing)

Ha! Not expecting anything in return. But I clearly need to increase my SSD capacity and find super-fast broadband from somewhere....

I keep getting stuck in downloading / de-compressing loops where it redownloads the same package over and over.

Looks like I'm not getting updated any time soon.
