World Update Six

Featured Replies

We stayed in Interlaken once and from our hotel balcony I watched the fighter jets take off from the airbase, got a fantastic picture of them mid shot with the Jungfrau in the background. Think that airbase is no more as I'm sure I've looked for it in MSF but noticed it wasn't there, maybe there's a mod for that.

For those of you who are wondering what Switzerland is going to look like after World Update 6, go to Bing Maps and check it for yourself.

Wow.... so WU6 is going to be the bomb?

Is this where Developers redeem themselves?

Really looking forward to this.

Gorgeous!

I wonder if we will fly without CTDs then!

They should use this area as a sort of reference for tweaking graphics things to make the overall game look as real as it gets.
The architecture in itself is a MARVEL, but the scenery - man.

If you are already impressed by the main valley of Wallis, you might have another look into the connecting, smaller valleys. Without being rude to those living in the Wallis, the main valley (Rhone valley) is probably to ugliest part of the whole Canton 😉

It's still there but inoperative. It's now used for skydiving (did that there 10 years ago - what a blast that was) and a big rock music festival is held there every year (well, before Covid that was the case).

I went camping there in the boy scouts over 60 years ago. I dont remember an airbase there at all, I think I saw the Wright brothers flying around though?

Quite true. Although it's all relative. Most people not used to big beautiful moutains would probably still find it far nicer than industrial areas of most countries. Also the industry is mostly spread out and not condensed like some places. I mean, I can leave my house on the side of the Rhone valley, and be on a multitude of hiking trails in literally 2 mins walk. Where else would you get that in a built up area? Not too many places I expect;)

I do agree though that compared to the many smaller valleys and villages (Evolene being my nearby local favourite) around Valais (Wallis in German), the main valley itself is rather over-industrialised and the towns tend to be surrounded by blocks of flats that are not very attractive outside of the town centers. However, the stunning scenery, many walks and cycling routes and access to transport more than makes up for it.

I am not a Swiss native by the way so I try to be objective;)

Granted, but this is where the money comes from! 😁

Tourism being the other major economic resource lives essentially in the thirteen small valleys that Wallis is made of (hence the 13 stars of our flag). Try Zermatt, val d'Anniviers, val d'Herens, the Simplon, the valley of Conches, val de Bagnes to the St-Bernard to name only a few of the wonderful areas of this little part of Switzerland.

What? Are you saying those of us living in Valais can't live off of fondue, raclette and red wine alone??? 😁

The sat image quality is amazing.

Bing now has better elevation data for switzerland than google in some areas. Though one thing I noticed when trying to do this comparison, is that Google actually has Photogrammetry for some mountains, like Faulhorn.
