Well, I spent most of the day updating my second computer. That one does 4k medium and weirdly there's no performance increase whatsoever for the short time it worked.

That computer also has always enjoyed disconnecting a mystery USB device every few minutes... which now freezes the sim. So it's hosed on both machines.

It's insane.

After realizing it was butter smooth with my VR original settings I cranked many up. Now just for fun I put all settings to the highest settings possible (accept render scale at 100%), LODS at max, objects, clouds, waves, shadows and whatnot at ultra and took a flight at low altitude over Manhattan that was filled with other online players. I get rock solid 30-35 fps buzzing the roofs of the buildings with 150% SS in Steam VR on my Index. And not ONE stutter. It sounds like 33 fps in VR should be bad but it feels like 60 or more as it is soo smooth. Flew over JFK that was chaotic with aircraft all over the place and it dropped to 26 FPS - not that I noticed as it still felt completely smooth. buzzing the hangar roofs... Looking around in VR with no stuffers looking over my shoulder low over JFK or Broadway.

It’s the best worst version yet! Much higher FPS. Those micro stutters are gone, as are the stutters during ATC comms. The UI is super snappy, load times are a fraction of what they were, and there are tons of small but significant improvements throughout. But then it constantly crashes, AI traffic is broke, weather is broke, clouds are borked, the ground looks worse than FSX about 30k feet, tons of add-ons are broke, and my PC doubles as a space heater now.

Ending on a positive note, i like the lighting and the planes look better. And F1 2021 runs great on my old PC.

This is hands down for me the best update.

I have heard that repeatedly in the last day or so that Ai traffic causes crashes or CTD's, but I swear I must live a charmed life with these things, since my Ai traffic has been on all this time with no problems at all......

Occam's razor seems to indicate that at least some of the apparent issue must then be suspected to lie at least in part on individual users various computers.

Same here with fresh install - Lost all controllers - left with mouse only. But for a while I manage to fly the C152 by touching the cockpit controls with mouse and was fluid..

Regards,

I have 2 major problems with this release, submitted through Zendesk.

(1) As quoted above -
I first setup controllers OK  but then an hour or so later  I lost completely the control settings - which I have not been able to cannot create again. MSFS just "does not see" connected my controls. Only mouse.
This is a new Install of MSFS in this PC.
After this happened I can only see profile for mouse control and cannot add / restore the profiles I had originally for the M16000 Thrustmaster Joystick neither for the Saitek Throttles.
MSFS does not let me add these controls again. They don't show up in the control menu as available to configure.

(2) In the C172 aircraft I was unable to make invisible the Yokes in the cockpit. I have seen videos of others who have his issue even with the TBM9. However with the C152 aircraft I this works OK.

I'm paying attention to Zendesk hoping some help from Microsoft shows-up soon.

If anyone has experienced these ussies and have managed to resolve them  I would very much appreciate ideas.

I could not agree more. I would really appreciate someone explaining why an over 40 GB download was necessary. But beyond that can we not decide to not download some "features". I will never, not once, ever, fly a training mission.

Same, I am getting about 35fps at worst fully maxed out so clamped vSync at 30 and its as smooth as, except panning around is a little juddery.

My first impressions, Reverb G2 & 2070Super;

- Not seeing as big a performance boost as others,  gained about 10fps average in different scenarios, but this is using SteamVR as i use an overlay app. Using just WMR I do see more of an increase but only a bit extra not a huge amount.

- biggest gains seem to be in bigger planes and night flying as per my benchmarks in the other thread, smaller GA isn't as much which is what i mainly fly.

- scenery pop in is visible when turning head sharply, I don't notice it as much when turning head normally but it is there , not game breaking but certainly could be better.

- LODs on 200 and Trees set to Ultra yet the "circle" around the plane is clearly visible so this clearly has not been fully rectified, better than SU4 yes but still not good enough.

- Anti Aliasing is awful in the menus and worse in the cockpit than previous.

- Clouds are now awful, Ultra looks exactly like what Medium was before the update and yet there's still a huge FPS cost, this is a massive backwards step.

Overall first impressions: I much preferred lower FPS with better overall visuals as seen before the update, I hope that Asobo can address these issues specifically for PC users and VR users sooner rather than later as overall this update is very "meh" so far....

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

FPS are now great, stutters fewer, and overall very happy.  Download was seamless too.

However the one unresolved issue I have is with the TBM930 improvement mod - it causes loss of the interior, and issues with transparency of the fuselage as in the image below.  I am reading that this mod may not now be updated any further - does anyone know for sure what is happening?  In the meantime it is back to the default aircraft, and therefore minus the very nice features this mod gave us.

Flight Simmer since 1983 - loving the brilliant Quality Wings 787 and all PMDG models!!

I have to agree with an earlier post that stated there are so many different levels of satisfaction after SU5.  This is not meant to make anyone feel bad however my experience has been great.  Additional 10-15Frames, scenery still looks amazing.  My download for the update did stall due to server load however I cancelled out and it picked up where I left off and installed without any issues.  I updated the PMDG DC6 and continued to use AddOnLinker to assist with the community files and simulation start up.  Not one issue for me.  All working really well.

I'm sorry to hear of the negative experiences and wish I could help but wouldn't know where to start.  But good luck to all of you and happy flying.

That really sucks.

Have you tried emptying the Community folder?

Or switching the knobs and switches to Legacy mode under Accessability settings?

And of course update the graphics drivers.

Maybe update the Working Title addons?

I figured it out after a while of troubleshooting. I think my user.cfg settings carried over to Update 5; Once i reset my graphical settings to ULTRA from CUSTOM, I stopped crashing with everything but the FBW A320. Once I downloaded the most recent patch for the FBW A320, it too stopped crashing. (They must have discovered a show-stopper after their initial SU5 build).

The sim runs great! I have a few pet peeves with this version (The UI bar staying visible, the slow panning if the mouse passes over a clickable, the Traffic CTD bug), but otherwise it's a good update.

Does anyone know if Asobo/Microsoft have acknowledged the issue of washed out colors? It's literally blinding, The irony is that it almost seems too dark at dawn/dusk & during the day it's like brightness is on steroids.
